Nice municipal course on the upswing
This is my favorite course in Champaign/Urbana area.
The course is in good shape for being a municipal with very reasonable green fees and it is remarkable
how much this place has improved in a few years. Many of the bunkers are being redone this summer which will further improve the course. On its current trajectory the future is bright for this course.
The site of the course is wonderful, being set within a forest and a majority of holes have a nontrivial change in elevation. This sets the course apart from all other nearby courses which are mostly flat and don't have enough trees to affect course strategy. The course is on the short side, but it plays longer than it looks due to dense trees in the rough and well placed fairway bunkers on many holes. The course design is nice in that the are multiple risk/reward holes and there is a meaningful difference on many holes between the white and blue tees.
The level of organized play is comparable to a country club with two weekly leagues (Wednesday has ~70 people with handicaps from +1 to 36) and there are many events/competitions throughout the summer. The golf staff are nice and do a great job of making the course a friendly and inviting place to play.
Great value and friendly staff.
I was a single and was the first to tee off. I found the course overall to be in good shape. The greens are a tad slow, but were clean and true.
It is a challenging course, but still enjoyable for the weekend golfer. I am a 16 handicap and thoroughly enjoyed my round.
Great views but slow play
Our round took 5 hours because there were a few slow groups ahead of us. It was like 5-6 minutes between shots. Prepare to play slow, especially if you have people walking on the course. This was really surprising because we were playing on Monday.
Best golf course in Champaign county
This course has everything - Par-3 holes, foot golf, driving range, indoor golf simulator, elevation changes, undulating greens, lakes, and trees along the fairways. You can spot deer often.
Needs some work
Course has great potential to be one of best in area.
Wonderful layout, nice greens and tee boxes.
Sand traps were a disaster. Mostly dirt, rocks and weeds growing in them.
They need to work on getting some snack foods in pro shop. If you golf early, better take your own food ?
Pace of play was awful. Waited on every single hole. Don’t play a weekend Greeds in decent shape. Great scenery. Nice staff
The greens are looking better. Just some advice with the clubhouse, when someone walks in it is probably a good idea to greet them insead of not look at them like they dont exist.
Nice course
Nice course, interesting layout, fairly scenic. Conditions just fair. Apparently they had problems with their irrigation system last year and a few of the greens haven't fully recovered. All in all, a nice enough course, but nothing too special.
If you have 8 hours to waste then go
The worst golfing experience I’ve ever had they are doing everything they can to make money and stacked on top of Each other. It was so bad that my wife you have a bad back and could not play was charged $10 to ride and watch my son and I. I have never had a golf course charge for that the play was so slow in front of me that we waited Anywhere from 10 to 25 minutes every hole The Ranger even told us to speed up but when I explained that the golfers in front where the hold up he would not tell them to speed up or let us Through. The course conditions were terrible and will not play there again. There are to many others that show the golfer respect and quality they pay for
Course condtion
They still have a long way to go in improving the condition of the course. A lot of basic maintenance had not been done for years and it's starting to show. Other improvements being done presently is a good start keep it up.
I wouldn’t
Course was in really bad shape. They hadn’t taken care of the leaves from last fall. Greens were atrocious. It was like putting over a minefield in spots. I read some reviews from late 2018 that it was the same so nothing has been done since. It was disappointing because I had played the course around 2013 or so and it was great so it appears to be in a freefall.
Course was in bad condition.
Greens were in bad shape. Fairways were not mowed. The rough was Tall. Nice treed course. Hope they can get it back into shape.
Unfortunate.
Course maintenance poor. Most greens in poor condition. Many traps appear to have no work done on them all season. It's a fun layout, but really unfortunate decline.
Disappointed golfer
I have played this course before, and had a wonderful time. However, I was disappointed with the course conditions today. Most of the greens are suffering from significant turf loss. The speed of the greens was inconsistent throughout the course, and they leaned towards the slow and bumpy end of the scale. Additionally, most of the bunkers had very little sand, and due to a recent rain storm, they were basically unplayable. On the bright side, the pace of play was excellent, and the course is in a peaceful location. In fact, we observed white-tail deer on the course on two occasions.
