The tee boxes and fairways can be rough at times greens are in decent shape overall still not too bad for the price
SLOW Pace.
I have played Chick Evan twice this year, both rounds were unbearably slow. Waiting for multiple groups on every tee box.
The course itself is ok. Not in great shape, but I've certainly seen worse. Tee boxes could use some love. Fairways on some holes are pretty dried out.
Probably won't play here again this year.
Short but sweet
Nice course in nice shape and isolated from civilization in the forest preserve. It is short, 5700 or so, but still can be challenging. I recommend it as you long as you appreciate it for what it is. Not a tournament course going to host PGA anytime soon, but a very pleasant, fun and interesting course.
Fun course, slow play
The course was a lot of fun to play, in great shape and I thought it was well worth the money. Of all the forest preserve courses I’ve played, this one is by far is the most wooded in my opinion. My only gripe was the place of play was really bad, worse than normal on the front 9 but it had cleared up some on the back. The people I was paired with were all really nice as well and I’d absolutely come back here.
Be prepared to wait…and wait…
The core problem at Check Evans is that there is essentially no regulation over pace of play. They schedule tee times relatively close to each other and that is it. There is no ranger monitoring the pace. You will frequently see beginner groups taking incessantly long times looking for their ball etc. Waiting 10+ minutes on the Teebox on every hole is the norm here.
Course operator here. Thank you for coming back to Chick Evans over the past couple years. We appreciate you letting us know about your experience. We have 10-minute tee time gaps, and when see turn times at the 10th longer than is acceptable, we send our starter out to speed up play. We've been averaging 4-4.5 hour rounds on the weekends, but when you experience slower-than-acceptable play, please feel free to let us know directly at info.chickevans@forestpreservegolf.com, and we'll do something about it as it's happening.
Painfully Slow - Overbooked and Under Attended
There have been multiple times that I’ve played this course in the last two years and it is consistently backed up without a ranger in sight.
The course would be an absolute joy but unfortunately they enjoy overbooking.
While I consider myself to be a patient player, 5 + hours plus for a course this size is insane.
Do better! 🙂

Chick Evans Review
Always enjoy taking local friends to Chick Evans Golf Course. Close to my residence and nice value for the newer golfer.
Rainy Round
Nice course and layout. Pace was on the slow side because it was raining. River was overflowing due to the rain. Staff was very friendly.
Tuff course
I gave this course a high rating but I also I would not recommend this course to a friend. The reason is because this was a very hard course for me. Very narrow fairways and lots of hazards make this course especially difficult. If you do choose to play this course then bring lots of extra balls. On a brighter side the course is beautiful the landscape is great and I enjoyed the uniqueness of the bridges throughout the course.
Great course that will challenge your short game!
The best part of this golf course, aside from the price, is the staff. Outfrickenstanding customer service! Thank you for all you do!
Rude staff
Old man cashier was rude. I’ve never had a problem here before. Last time I will ever book this course.
Decent muni course close to downtown
Decent course, short, no sand. Play was dreadfully slow, partially due to being so short. Staff was very friendly.
Course operator here. Thank you for playing Chick Evans, and we appreciate that you took the time to share about your experience. We certainly want to attend to our pace of play when it's too slow. If you're encountering issues on the course, please feel free to send us a note directly at info.chickevans@forestpreservegolf.com. That said, we will redouble our efforts to ensure we have a reasonable pace of play.
