On green of 5th hole of Willow Crest Photo submitted by u642535502 on 09/08/2020
Still do not recommend
Read my review of 8/25/17. You'll thank me for that. The only reason I played here was because one of my golfing buddies had a certificate that his wife bought him for X-mas. The closest 18 hole course to my house and I avoid it like the plague. Greens were micro aerated but still rolling nicely with excellent speed.. Course has a plethora of sand traps (many forced carries over them) and it's a complete crap shoot of what you'll get. For a course that charges $75 on a weekday the sand conditions are completely unacceptable. Lucky it hasn't rained in a while (this place was a swamp before it was built and when after a decent rain it's a slog). Today the front aprons of several greens were swamps (the super over waters beyond belief) so your ball roll out is inconsistent. Beverage prices are ridiculous as well. Pace of play is always an issue here. Our back nine slowed to a crawl. Place is overrun with ladies in full regalia who tee off in the morning and routinely take 5.5 hours shooting well over 100. Watch out in the parking lot almost got hit by a clueless broad in her 100K Lexus. Save yourself your trouble....avoid this place....you can play twice somewhere else for what they charge here and have much better experience.
Willow Crest Golf Club - A fine course
The overall conditions were excellent. The only thing missing was fluffy sand in the traps as they looked pretty but needed sand to get under the ball. Fairways were in great shape and so were the greens. The check in was easy as all I did was show up to the cart area and the starter had my name and tee time and we teed off within about 10 minutes and on time. They were some challenging pin placements today and you needed to be a good marksman to be around the tees making you focus.
Casey crew
Nice layout
Good greens
Friendly staff
One of my favorites
Terrible pace of play
For a beautiful course in great shape,, the terrible pace of play takes away from what should be a great round of golf. We were really excited to play at Willow Crest, but that excitement soon turned to frustration. The round took forever as 2 slow groups in front of us were just lolly gagging around the course. There was no ranger to push them or move them along. We should not to wait to hit every shot on every hole, because the 2 groups in front can't keep moving. The course itself is fantastic and well kept. Would love to play the course again. However, the terrible pace of play will greatly influence if we ever play it again.
Should not allow 4 groups of 2-somes in order to play on a Sat afternoon........way too slow!
Great location. Course kept in flawless condition. Staff is totally friendly and helpful. Greens a little slow but staff will firming them up shortly. Running about 8-9 now going to 12-13. Love the place.
Expected much more
I played this course for the first time really excited about the opportunity to play since everybody has been raving about it. On the first hole there’s a bunker and it was full of water however I noticed that on every hole that had a bunker green side there was water where it was unplayable. They were marshals going around the course however they were not keeping pace for the other groups. When pulling up to the golf club we were just greeted by somebody nobody offered to clean the clubs or take our bags. Something you expect from a resort style course. The guy in the pro shop was just hanging around not friendly. High school kids seemed like. I see this course on GolfNow all the time however I don’t think it’s worth money. You’re better playing elsewhere for that amount of money
Early season
I played on a 'Hot Deal" on the only decent weather day in the Chicago area for some time. The course hadn't really turned green yet, the greens were slow but that may have been a blessing since they have a lot of slope on many of them. There are many traps and waste areas and the traps have a mix of sand and clay which gets very dense after rain or water from sprinkling the greens soaks them. Accuracy is very important here the water hazards are set well below fairway level and the banks are steep enough to draw errant shots into the ponds.
Resort fun
Willow crest is a sporty resort course conveniently located in the Western suburbs.
Always a Decent Track
The course was in pretty good shape. Greens were a little slow but the rest of the course played well. Guys greeting you are always very friendly and helpful. Bob the starter was a gem, allowing us some flexibility because the pace of play was pretty slow. Tees are decent. Very windy day which made almost every par 3 a tough hole. Remember there is no driving range here which is a negative though. Play this course a couple of times per year...worth the time.
Fun and Challenging
This course will definitely make you think about shot selection! It's fun but tough.
Greens were very slow, fairways wet and bunkers unplayable!
Greens were very slow, recently aerated so they were not cut. Last time i played this course the greens were super quick and rolled true so i was very disappointed when i reached the 1st green and found them very hairy and slow. Course was also very wet, patched of standing water in the fairways. The 4 some of seniors that were 2 groups in front of us caused the entire course to slow to a halt, never once did they allow anyone to play through. Bunkers were in horrible shape, most of them were not playable due to standing water and multiple bunkers had rocks in them the size of gold balls so because if you choose to play them.
Not a course worth visiting
Super slow pace of play. No ranger. We had to call the clubhouse to have them send someone out to get after slow groups. We had 3 4somes all waiting to tee off on hole 11 because of the pace. The staff member who came out basicslly told us "there is nothing I can do" to which I replied "how about you nicely ask the slow groups to pick up their pace". Seems simple enough. The fairways were over watered (no rain for the previous week and our shoes sank into the turf at 10am). Doubt I will ever play there again. I was super bummed out by the experience. Way over priced for what you get.
Beautiful
The course is beautiful and the condition reflected how well the management is doing. Good course
Great value
I think this is one of the better courses in the area. Played on a Saturday afternoon for $40 with cart thru a hot deal on Golf Now. Definitely a bargain for this challenging layout. Course has a great variety of different holes and is unique with six par 3's. The greens are large and well bunkered and are true and fast, which is how I prefer them. The course was in excellent condition and the staff extremely friendly and helpful. A joyful experience with a private country club feel.
