Golfer Reviews
A Local Gem
I have grown to love and fear this course. It appears so harmless but is loaded with tricky challenges. The greens are also more challenging than they look. Nice water features/hazards. Great staff. Great accessible location.
Great Condition and only 4 hours to play
They keep this course in great shape and you should be able to finish a round in 4 hours 15 minutes. I've always enjoyed playing this course.
Fairly good round of golf for the price
Oak Brook is a decent setup considering lack of land. A lot of water on the front to make up for it. It is usually in pretty good shape but is very overpriced. If you can get it for $40 or less it is worth it otherwise look elsewhere.
Fairways and greens in very good condition
Nice layout
Course and greens were in very good shape
Staff friendly
Slow Pace
Many reviews spoke to the great pace of play. I must disagree. This is the third or fourth time I had played, mainly based on those reviews. Each round up to this point has taken 4+ hours.
Yesterday was the final straw for me as I went out fairly late in the day at 5:30. I decided to walk since I could see the course was fairly busy. As I teed off of number one a twosome in a cart came up. I asked them to play through. I ended up waiting on them for every shot, but it was no fault of their own. Turns out there was a walking fivesome ahead of those guys. I called the golf shop from number 4 fairway and they supposedly sent a ranger to advise this group to allow faster players through.
They did allow the twosome through after number 5, but never waved me through. I finished the par 3 number 7 while they were still teeing off on 8. They just walked right by me.
I called the pro shop a second time and asked for them to send a ranger to number 8. The response was, "What is the issue now?" Well, after I let him have it about what the "issue" was, a ranger or someone came and told them to wave through faster players, again.
I was playing well and should have, with courteous players ahead, gave been able to walk the front nine in an hour and a half. As it was, I finished nine in 2 hours and 15 minutes. No chance of even trying to play the back nine. When I went in and informed them of this review i would write, i was greeted with a blank stare.
Also, the $25 to walk is not what the website says. It should have been $17, according to their site. The guy in the pro shop just shrugged his shoulders and couldn't care less.
Always enjoyable experience
Oak Brook Golf Club is an excellent, moderately-priced municipal golf facility. The course is challenging and very well maintained. The staff are friendly and helpful. The food is excellent and reasonably priced. I always enjoy playing at OBGC and still do so when possible although I no longer live in the area.
Great Suburban Course
I'm a big fan of Oakbrook Golf Course - the layout is challenging and the course is always in well kept shape. Friendly Staff, good food - drinks are a little pricey.
We had to fix " a lot of ball marks" on the greens.
I would suggest that the "Starter" mention this to every golfer on 1st tee. It's such a beautiful well kept course to have hacks not respect the quality of the course for the sake of other golfers.
Best price for the quality of course around!
Fun Course, Slow Holiday Round
Course was in good shape and played pretty hard due to the wind out of the west. Would definitely play here again even though the round was slow but this was to be expected given it was Memorial Day and nice out.
Diamond in the rough
I keep going back to this golf course because of the conditions, speed of play, undulated greens and friendly staff
Must Play
Excellent Condition. This course is always in very good condition. Course personnel are very concerned with pace of play and you can count on finishing in the 4:10 - 4:20 range, even on weekends. Excellent coaching available here as well. I highly recommend Claudine Boettger! 5 stars!
Great Round
Course was in great shape and greens were true and fast. Front nine plays tighter with water on a few holes, requires good shot making. Back nine is more open but longer with some water. Due to spring rains was afraid would be wet but was not. Played fast, staff was great. Great value. Will be back.
A fun round at Oakbrook Golf
Had a great day at Oakbrook Golf Club. The pace of play, and the conditions were top notch.
The greens, fairways, and tees were top notch. The rough gets a little tough, but I guess I wasn't supposed to hit it there.
I love this place!
Lovely Experience
Great public golf course and always in good condition. Very good value for the location, condition and service. I play here at least twice a month and pace of play has never been a problem. Definitely a good challenge for the average player. Driving range is all grass and staff is very friendly.
Great golf at a good value!
This course is hands down the best maintained municipal course in the west burbs. The condition of the course is always immaculate and the greens can get pretty speedy depending on the time. The course offers playability for the short hitter as well as the advanced golfer who wants to challenge himself. The greens are all undulating and can even test a good putter. The driving range is one of the best around with many top level instructors. The staff is very friendly and the food is great for a quick bite or a sit down lunch. All this with the convenience of the location makes it the best value of any golf courses around!
