Very enjoyable
Especially enjoyable @ Golf Now Price. It might have been the exception but, is not often that one can play in less than 3-1/2 hours at 1;00 in the afternoon.
Average course for the $
I've played Oak Brook GC 8-10 times over the years and it's usually in decent shape, but it's very flat and the holes are not that different from each other. The front 9 is a little better than the back because water comes into play on more holes, but for the kind of green fees this place is charging, the course should be excellent and it simply isn't even close to that.
Toughest Greens in the Chicago Area
Nice Course and good location-convenient! Front nine is tight and not very long. Back nine a bit more open with a little more length. Course conditions were fair, probably due to the time of season. Greens are very tough...no flat greens here!!! Overall, challenging and fun!
Oak Brook Golf Club
The Good: Sporty Roger Packard design is a strong muni-course 20 miles west of Chicago. Known as "dogleg alley" for its many 90-degrees turns, placement off the tee is key. Good fairway conditions and very undulating, slick greens that are some of the largest in the Chicago area. Decent clubhouse and nice practice facility. Good value for quality of course and conditioning.Strong Par 5's and a good closing hole.
The Bad: The greens can be so difficult that the average hacker will have fits. Limited on-and-off course amenities that lack GPS, good signage, and restrooms. Play is often very slow and rangers are rarely present. Limited service and not much focus on providing a memorable experience.
The Verdict: Oak Brook is a classic parkland track that is very fun to play and challenging despite being a shorter course. City needs to invest in better amenities and staff to be a top-tier course.
Best Hole(s): The Par 5 #16 is a true risk-reward hole. Stay conservative off the tee unless you can launch it over the trees guarding the dogleg. #18 is a great uphill Par 4 with a tree lined amphitheater.
Fun course, amkes you think
Course was in great shape. fun track with lots of decision making --- risk versus reward. greens approachable but undulating at times so no easy birdes.
Great course for a great price
The course is fun to play and in great shape. I would recommend it for everyone. We were able to use the $39 coupon in the newspaper that included a cart and range balls. You won't find a better deal anywhere.
Good test. Quick undulating greens.
Overall the course was in good condition. Greens were fast. Pace of play was 4:15. I have player the course on numerous occasions. Always a fair test with difficult greens. I look forward to playing the course again soon.
A shame, great course but staff and management don't do a thing about pace of play
This is a great track, beautiful holes , makes you think . Food is only fair. I brought an international co- worker to the track and while we had a good time, we waited 5-10 min on every shot on every hole , which made for an over 5 hour round. We repeatedly made request to rangers and the clubhouse to do something about pace of play to no avail . It has happened to me lately, 4:40,+ rounds and the staff simply doesn't do enough about it. So , I'm playing elsewhere , it's hard enought to find time to go out and play to then spend 5 hours at the course , half of it waiting for other players or the staff to care about customers. It's a shame , I really liked the course.
Excellent challenge
Challenging dog-legs and narrower fairways made this a fun and challenging course. Will play again!
