Staff isn't friendly
Starter eddy was rude. Probably won't go back to overpay for a round and to deal with disrespectful staff
I know the course
Played over 100 rounds past 15 yrs. Was a private, underused perfectly groomed. Went bankrupt. Ran by holding company (poorly) for a decade. Got hammered with weather and disease and lost 70% of trees. New owner 3 years ago (they own 2 other great courses in area) and has made great strides.
The Bad. 1. Not bent grass. 2. Understaffed on the customer service side (beer cart, wine and dine stuff not actually play related) 3. A lot of league play and outings. If go on weekend and an outing on 2 of the 9's you get a tee time on third 9 then when you get there your 9 in packed.
The Good 1. 3 vastly different 9's 2. Wide open 3. Fair course 4. $32 45 min from Navy Pier
Poorly managed
Don't waste your time. Staff is rude, course is flooded and smells like sewer., They can't even bother to tell you that they close at 5 pm.
Nice course
Had a great time golfing this course for the first time. Challenging from start to finish. The greens seemed faster on the red course than the blue course. Beautiful course and well maintained. We will be back!
Could be so much better
First the good:
3 distinct 9 hole courses layout provides a variety. Flat so its great for walking. some Interesting strategic short holes and reasonably fun layout. overall condition was pretty good. Greens rolled true but were medium-slow.
Overall feels like a budget muni.
Challenges:
The girl at the pro shop counter knows nothing about the game of golf. Not a good first impression. I flew in for a family reunion, called ahead and asked about rentals. They said ": We have Calloways and Wilson sets" .....But when at the course and I asked the young woman at the pro shot counter what types of rentals they had she said: "I think we have left AND right but I'm not sure..." I thought she was kidding but no. She returned with a rental set caked with mud that had a mixed bag of 7 total ancient clubs. seriously. I asked for a full set (after all I paid the full rental fee..) and she got her manager who said "well we don't really have any full sets. I can't really help you" He seemed put out that I expected a full set...I hadn't even mentioned the mix and the dirt yet. It wasn't worth it.
Honestly it is unbelievable they charge 25 to rent a half a set of very dirty ancient clubs and then act bothered when you ask for a full set.
bottom line: play it if convenient. but this is NOT a golfer's facility.
Slooooooooooooow.
Nothing but fairweather players.
Left after 1 hole. 40 minutes after teeing off.
Country Club course
I play this course quite a bit. Definitely one of the better courses in the area. Good value for a course that was previously a private country club.
This is a hidden gem
I will be playing this course many times next year. One of the best courses I have played this year, it was like being at a country club. This is the first time I played this course and it will not be the last, you can count on that.
GREAT VALUE
NICE COURSE, RARELY BUSY, HAS 3 NINES SO USUALLY NEVER GETS BACKED UP, WAS IN GREAT SHAPE
Nice change of pace
While I generally play at Aberdeen or Sandy Pines, River Pointe was nice. Some challenging holes, nice staff.
Excellent greens
Very good value worth the drive greens true and slick
Greens are tough, but are not to the point of being unplayable
Great course for value. Good shape and challenging
Northwest Indiana's Best Kept Secret
I was a member of River Pointe when it was a private club and returning there was like going home. I played the Blue and White courses and found them to be in better shape now than they ever were when it was private. The new owner however is letting a great asset go to waste. The clubhouse is beautiful but closed.
Owner's son held up the course with his group of 5
If it wasn't for the owner's son's complete lack of respect to the paying customers, this would have been a good course. He and his 4 buddies held many golfers up so they could have their own group of 5. As my group of 2!! caught them at a tee box the 5th golfer had just taken his 4th shot off the tee box. They all looked at us and drove off. I went to the club house and explained this, this is when nobody wanted to do anything because " it's the owner's son" Well owner's son... I will never play this course again because of your arrogance and lack of respect for paying customers.
Greens are in good shape
Pace was terrible, I was a single on a Wed afternoon, and it took forever. There isn't a ranger but some guys drive around on carts but they serve no purpose. At one time on a par 5 there were four groups on the hole, and one gentlemen stopped to make a joke instead of inquiring or doing anything about the pace. They seemed to be only using 18 of the 27 holes available.
Country Club Layout
What a golf course! You can see that it once was a private "Country Club" golf course. Certain pin position requires you to KEEP IT BELOW THE HOLE
I enjoyed it very much and look forward to playing it again
Now I know where to shoot at!
Great course for the price
This course is great. There are 3 different nine hole courses and you get 2. Pace of play was slower than I would have liked but the course was great and the price was hard to beat. Would certainly go back.
