Course is tight quarters
Overall a well maintained course fairways are manicured as well as greens. Be aware of close quarters although. Very easy to hit your ball on opposite fairways. Be aware of others flying orbs when on your own fairway. Between tight quarters and pace of play when behind old players groups of 5 or 6 players which can pretty ridiculous id give it a 4.1 out of 5 just because it's well maintained.
Nice course
I play this course a few times a year. Great course for it's age.
Good time
Course was in good shape for middle of March in Iowa. Got paired up with another genthe man named John who was a great person to golf with. One of the best times I've had golfing in a while. Always a good time here.
This course has some challenging holes
This course played well for us. We were able to play 18 in under 4 hours. The rough was a little longer than the last time we played. Fairways were great.
Short Course
I booked an early Tee time 6:45am. Got there early. Apparently, they don't show up early. I had to wait until 6:45 am as the guy didn't show up until 6:40. The course is a short course, not bad for beginners. The rough was really long. When I hit my ball into the rough it was hard to find. There are many blind shots. Makes it tough to know where you are hitting. The back 9 was nicer than the front. The greens seemed small as well.
Poorly Maintained
Rough is too long and thick. Narrow fairways. Makes play difficult if you are not in the fairway. Difficult to find ball if it isn't in the fairway. Pace of play very slow.
Nice Course
Good course, just got stuck behind a couple slow pairs of people. That said, staff was friendly and the course was well-kept. Still early in the season, but not a lot of tall stuff to lose balls in
Tmick
I golf there fairly often. Nice people, pleasant course.
Perfect for an occasional round
Fun Course, Fair Prices!
Fun course and very fair prices! Staff is great and everyone that plays there are friendly.
First time here
Had a great time especially for our first time here. Would recommend to any one. Greens a little rough but not to bad
Poor experience
Drove 45 minutes in the rain to find out the course was closed. Very disappointed to not get a phone call ahead of time.
Poor customer service
My issue isn't with the course itself, although I have played here a couple times and it's below average at best (Poorly maintained fairways that are indistinguishable from the rough, slow greens, etc). It is what it is; a course for chops. My issue is this: We made a tee time for Saturday morning, and although it was raining a bit, decided we would still play. We drove all the way to the course to find out the course was closed due to 1-2 inches of rain that fell overnight. I can see not allowing carts out (although a herd of buffalo could run across this course and it wouldn't make much difference), but if you're going to close the course due to a small amount of rain at least have the courtesy to call the person who made the tee time and let them know not to come out.
Disclosure: I did not make the tee time, but my friend who did said he gave them his number.
Some people enjoy playing in the rain. It softens the course and keeps away the shirtless, denim wearing, ac/dc blasting from the cart masses.
My opinion: If you're a chop who wants to have a good time with your bros, play here. Everyone else head a little farther north, pay a little more money and play TCI.
Little Gem
This was not my first time golfing this course, however each time is more fun. Course is well maintained and you want to stay in fairways as rough is deceivingly deep. For the money this course has to be one of the better values in the Des Moines area.
Good Course, friendly staff, good time.
Woodland is looking great. The course is in great shape, the holes are fun yet challenging. Always a good time golfing here.
Great value
Great value. This course offers specials like all courses should.
Greens were mowed close, played fast and challenging
I've played Woodland Hills many times. It's always challenging for the boggie golfer. I have a 16 handicap so this course can make me feel good about my game.
Nice golf course
Played on Monday afternoon and not very many on the course so we played at a good pace with no waiting. Course was in good condition but tee boxes needed some attention. Greens rolled really well and held most approach shots. We enjoyed it and would recommend it to friends. Only negative comment would be having the parking lot across a busy road.
Get what you pay for
Greens were extremely slow, would rather pay more and play somewhere else. Course is short distance wise. Rough, greens, and fairways all needed mowed.
