Really gone down hill
Played here for years. They have let Fox run go. Tall weeds and can’t play it anymore. This leaves Willows snd Pioneer. Course was sloppy even though it recently rained it still was a dipping mess. Drainage was poor. Greens were awful. Just no value in coming here anymore. Kenton county has obviously decided to let this go. .
Fun course to play, greens and cart paths are in rough shape. Pace of play has been slow the last few rounds I've played here .
greens
the fairways were good but the greens are in terrible shape right now. There was a lot of dead spots and mud on the greens. I know Dave Peru will get these greens in great shape. Its just going to take some time with the weather. Overall, I always enjoy playing out there.
Better than expected
while there was nothing overly special about the course, it definitely deserves a higher rating than reviews have shown. I believe it's under new management and it takes time to revamp a course. Greens were fun but very tough with slopes all around.
Great staff
Overwhelmingly satisfied with the way the staff were prepared and handled matters under current COVID conditions.
Thank you for the great review! We appreciate feedback and it helps us make Kenton County GC the best it can be for all players and guests. We look forward to earning your business again soon! -KC Team
Fix the rest of the bunkers on the front 9 of Pioneer
Last year all bunkers on Pioneer and Willows were redone, either eliminating them and grassing over or renovated with new sand EXCEPT those bunkers on holes 6/7/8/9 on Pioneer. I know for a fact that the materials (sand) is on the property in order to renovate the (approxiamately) 7-9 bunkers on these holes. Without them being redone in creates 2 different sets of bunker play as the ones which haven't been touched are really unplayable.
Don't tell me how much you are upgrading the conditions of these courses without this work being completed.
Oh, and don't even get me started on talking about the absolute horrific conditions of the cart paths.
Excellent Conditions
Played Pioneer today, played Willows yesterday...both courses are in the best shape I’ve seen them in years.... 2 complaints I have is, still no rakes in the bunkers (maybe they aren’t allowed yet, per Governor) and the rough needs a trimming...hard to spot a ball just off the fairway....on a packed day I could see the length of the rough slowing down play a lot...
The price is a little high right now as well... normally this course runs about 30.00 or so to play...42.50 per person to ride 18 is a little much for this course....very short course with only 2 par 5’s...very tough par 3’s though
Very impressed
I’ve been playing Kenton county for years and today reminded me of the condition it was in 20 years ago. Pioneer course is very fair, wide open so you can hit off the fairway and still have a playable shot which really kept pace of play up. You still gotta hit it well off the Tee but you don’t have to be perfect to have a good time. Me and another golfer walked 18 in 4 hours. Greens were pretty good and consistent. The only complaint I have is the tee boxes were marked with white, yellow and red(women) Markers but the distance shown at the box was different colors which made it difficult to know what the distance really was off the tee. Bring a gps app on your phone until they get this fixed.
Thank you for the review! We have created an updated scorecard which now contains both courses and also launched an app which contains a GPS feature and other offers. We look forward to seeing you up here again. -KC Team
One minor problem
Don't have a big problem with course conditions, etc, but it would be nice to inform people that course is walking only before you arrive at course - ended up walking 9 only, back nine too hilly to walk.
Great practice round course
Somewhat forgiving. Not to long, some challenging holes but good for all levels of play
We appreciate the review and hope to see you up here soon.- KC Team
Shameful maintenance of a nice public ciurse
Same torn up cart paths as last year....not a ball washer to be found on any hole...hole marker signs laying in the mud. Terrible what this private company running the golf courses of Kenton County has done to it.
Pioneer Course conditions
Given the good amount of play the last few months, The Pioneer’s tee boxes, fairways and greens were in great shape. As with all courses at Kenton County, the cart paths are trashed. It’s smoother to drive in the grass than on the torn up cart paths. Spend some money to fix them!
Will be back again and again!
Very nice course. Staff is extremely professional, courtesy, and helpful.
Thumbs Down
I don’t know where to start....burnt fairways, every bunker is unplayable and considered “grounds under repair”, rough is 4” high and it takes forever to find a ball just off the fairway, and every tee box is like concrete....the green are in good shape and rolling fast, but so hard that it’s impossible to hold a ball when it lands....overall they’ve completely let this course go and I won’t be back this year....save your money and play elsewhere
Traps need work
All of the sand traps were in poor condition, weedy and compacted. The fairways were in good shape, the greens were fair.
Thank you for the kind review and feedback! We are working on making the guest experience the best it can be. You're feedback helps us do that! -KC Team
