It is what it is
It's a public country club. What do you expect to get from that? With all of that said, it's even cheaper than the county courses. Is it the best maintain course no. But neither are any of the other public courses in the area that charge twice as much. The staff was nice. The accommodations were fine. At the $10 discount from golfnow it was $21 to play 18 with a cart. At that price I don't care as long as you have a tee box and a green. People were expecting this to be some kind of resort style country club and I don't understand that when you're paying $30 to play 18. Go here if you want a cheap simple round. There's not a lot of public options in Anne Arundel county and if you do find them they're going to be 2 to 3 times more expensive. Go play Eisenhower at $90 if for 18. Where the greens and tee boxes are in just as bad of shape. The pace of play is horrendous, all the while being a public course in the county funded by county residents. No thanks
Challenging
ThisThis course poses quite a challenge with its narrow layout. Despite the less-than-ideal weather conditions on a cool and breezy 45-degree day, we managed to make the most of it and had a truly remarkable experience. It's worth noting that Hole 18, a Par 5, is strategically guarded by a total of 4 to 5 bunkers. The overall conditions of the course have been consistently impressive.
Go Elsewhere
This course is not it. The conditions were rather poor and the layout was so odd. The course started as a 9 hole course and the original (planned) 9 are the back 9 from my understanding. They clearly squeezed in the front 9 by meandering through the area and none of it really made sense. The holes were short but very narrow at times so it was kind of challenging. If it was better maintained and tweaked a bit, this could be a decent budget course but as it is, I'd say only go here as a last resort.
Nice layout
Some great holes and overall nice test of golf
Highly recommend!
Poor shape (bushy greens)
I always enjoy playing a course for the first time, and Walden was no exception. But the bushy slow greens with brown spots was a turnoff. Some holes were to narrow for their own good and needed a crew of lumberjacks. One redeemer was the layout, which was well done.
This course need a little maintenance.
Fairway condition was not great and had too many water hazards.
Poor Condition, Narrow point with houses
Tee boxes mostly sand. Fairways rough. Greens damaged and shaggy. Not worth the money.
Great Time
Great location, friendly staff and well maintained.
Greens and bunkers need improvement
Thunder and lightening forced us off the course after 14 holes. Very nice layout where you shouldn’t hit driver off every tee. Bunkers were caked with wet sand that had dried and greens were fungus burnt in may places.
Staff was great and I forced pace of play.
What a shame!
Greens on the front 9 are awful. Slow, even when putting downhill! A lot of diseased grass on the greens (not from heat), not maintained properly. Tee boxes have more dirt than grass. Bunkers are trashed and not maintained. Barely worth playing unless you're just messing around. The maintenance staff should be ashamed of themselves! A lot of overgrowth (trees) that should be taken care of, especially on the tees. Some of the blue tees (the back tees) have tree branches directly in the path of your tee shot - unacceptable.
Cool Course - rough shape - Slow Play
First time at the course, 9am tee time, pulled up to first tee and there was a foursome still waiting to tee off. The rough was thick, the fairways were fine, bunkers were not maintained at all, greens had a ton of weeds and not in good shape.
I’m not sure what happened
This is one of my favorite courses in the area, but this is the worst I’ve ever seen the greens at Walden CC. It is a hot mess!!! Because of the proximity of the course to my home, I play here a lot and I don’t believe I’ve ever seen the greens in this condition. It’s really bad! I’m not sure what happened to the greens but it looks like it needs a lot of work. To me, the greens are the most important part of a golf course because with the fairways and rough you can move your ball and find a decent spot , but you don’t have that luxury on the greens. I really hope the course can pull it together. I’m sure I’ll be out there again sooner than later.
I know the staff pretty well and they deserve a 5-star rating because they are top-notch, a good blend of friendly and professional. The course layout is great and challenging. It’s one of those courses that no matter how many times you play it, there are no guarantees on your scorecard.
