Good course
if the sand traps were kept up the course would be great. Tee boxes and fairways were in good shape.
Shaggy fairways
The course is in good shape. Just the fairways were a little high. I always enjoy the view from some of the tee boxes. However the course tends to be a little pricey. I guess since it's a resort course and there isn't much competition you can charge what you.
Not what it once was
The course and amenities are very dated. With the removal of a couple holes, it really made this course an eye sore for me. The sand traps were not taken care of at all and they are really starting to let it all go. The sheds need torn down all over the course. Greens were discolored but held true. The course is extremely narrow and greens are small if you are not an avid player, I would not recommend. Take at least a dozen balls as the rough is impossible to find anything right off the fairway. Just trending downward
Fantasy Valley. Dave
Fantasy Valley was a most interesting course. Staff is friendly and very helpful. Course layout is excellent with some very challenging holes. Greens were excellent condition and roll was good. I would recommend playing this course .
Fantasy Valley
This course is very tight. If you have trouble keeping your ball in the fairway, you will have a long day searching for your golf ball. It is not a “forgiving” golf course. However, the greens were nice; fairways were nice but some holes were extremely difficult for the novice. It is not an easy course and is challenging. If you want to play an easy scoring course, this one is not for you.
Good for your buck!
This course was great for the price. However, some of the Par 3s seemed more like Par 4s. It could have been because of the wind that it was hard to get a good grasp on what club to use
Course needs attention
Beautiful layout, but course needs a lot of attention. Was a great price on Hot Deal . But the conditions of the traps, haven’t been raked in like forever and no rakes on course. Greens very not bad. Putting well.
Nice course - friendly staff
Generally a nice, playable course, requiring some really good shots here and there. Conditions were in good shape. Friendly staff. Overall good experience.
Holiday weekend Golf Bust!
Disappointed in overall condition. Traps were grass with a little sand. No edging. Didn’t play out of most. Tee boxes bad. Fairways average at best. Greens were ok. Paid $69 for a course that is not worth more than $30. Won’t be dragging the boys up here for a golfing trip. Only one staff member. He was very pleasant. I could tell he had heard this from others.
The staff is great and the course was not bad for the price.
Solid " in your face" golf course.
I have played this course many times since the third day it was open in 19i0, a despite many rerouted due to the skiing operations, the course has maintained its character. The 140 slope from the blue tees is well-earned, and the conditions yesterday, especially the greens, were remarkable.
Its sister course, Lodestone, gets the #2 Maryland ranking, but Fantasy Valley ( I still call it WISP) is a worthy 'partner'.
Can't wait to play both courses on a "play both for $99" special.
Fantasy Valley: Bad name, great golf course...
Fantasy Valley is the new name for the golf course at the Wisp Resort at Deep Creek Lake MD. Terrible name, but great golf course. I was concerned that the course conditions would suffer after the Hale Irwin Lode Stone course (Wisp owns both courses) opened a few years ago, but that did not occur. In fact, the Wisp course is better than ever, and I've been playing it for 30 years. Always a treat to play and the folks there could not be more accommodating. I highly recommend playing Fantasy Valley (ugh) the next time you are in the Deep Creek area, you will be glad you did...
Nice course for the money
This course was $40 at 3pm which is a great deal. The conditions were just as good if not better than Lodestone, especially the greens. they were fantastic. The fastest greens I've played on all year.
The course layout is a little tight on the front which results in some bunching up and slower pace of play. The back opens up a bit more and has better views and scenery.
The staff was extremely friendly and talked to us about the course and what to expect and where to play safe vs. aggressive.
The course did not have beer or food for sale - we had to go to the restaurant at the hotel to get beer (which they were very low on.) Apparently the beer cart person decided that it wasn't busy enough to keep working. For 4 guys that just drove 4 hours plus, it was frustrating to not be able to eat before or during the round.
I would play here again, but I will make sure to bring my own food and drinks in case we run into the same situation. I also doubt I would be willing to pay full price - $70 is too much for this course.
Play Lodestone instead
Front 9 is tight and not that interesting. Holes 10-14 are really good though with nice views and a fun layout. Last 4 holes are average.
If you have the chance play the other course here, Lodestone. Far and away a better course and 4-5 star layout and conditions.
Overall not a bad course but was left underwhelmed after playing Lodestone yesterday
Fantasy Valley
A beautiful and challenging mountain course with some breath-taking vistas! Straight drives are a must on many holes. Carries over water add to the difficulty. Very enjoyable day of golf!
Not bad for $39.
Greens were smooth but not very fast. Fairways and tee boxes were average. Sand traps had nice sand but had some rocks and also had weeds growing around the edges and corners which looked terrible, little more care for this course and it could be a really nice course. Until that happens it's still just a good enough course. $39 twilight rate is fair.
Remake failure
Hadn't played this course for awhile and not since they changed the layout. Their are now 6 par 3's, some of which make no sense, since you drive by the old tee boxes and fairway to get to the new tee boxes in the middle of the old fairway. Tee boxes not in great shape, but could be because of all the rain and recent aeration. Course tough with some narrow fairways and water. Driving past over grown and unused holes, takes away from the natural beauty of the old course. Needs a lot of work.
