Abominable Conditions
This was my first time back at Ponky #1 after about 20 years. I played many times in the past as I grew up in the area. I had heard that the conditions had improved considerably after an extensive renovation after years of neglect. I can tell you that the conditions haven't improved much at all in 20 years. As long as the Commonwealth of Massachusetts owns Ponkapoag there is no hope that it will ever be an acceptable golf course(s). Ponky has been a patronage haven for politicians for years and it appears that this environment still exists. Investment must be made to cut down trees, clean up brush throughout the property and install cart paths. Only a private company can do all these things. The Commonwealth of Mass. will not. Contrast this course with the two owned by the City of Boston (George Wright and Franklin Park) and you will note that Boston gets it and Massachusetts doesn't .
Don't waste your money here. Until this becomes a real golf course. Go to the many other very good golf courses in Massachusetts.
Course need work.
The fairways were brown, so dry they were cracking and lifting up a big chunk. it’s a swampy area so lots of bugs
Horrific!!
People responsible for what has happened at Ponky should be ashamed. It’s criminal.
Atrocious
The greens if you were to call them that are unbelievably bad. I have played what I thought were bad courses but I have never seen anything like this.
First time
It’s a good course if it’s maintained well. A lot of the greens were pretty beat up, but the layout was good and it’s a nice are for scenery
Very poor course conditions
Sand bunkers and divets on the greens, course is a mess no upkeep
Needs work
This corse needs work. The greens had so many dry and bare spots even if you putted a good putt it only had 50% chance of going in!
On hole literally had trash on the ground across the tee box. The signs show tee boxes for blue, red, white but only have 2 tee boxes not even marked with the right colors.
Ok for the price!
Staff is the best thing about this course. They are all friendly, helpful, easy to deal with. Course conditions might be among the worst I’ve seen. Awful greens with dirt patches, broken or missing hole signs, and some tee boxes were in rough shape with lots of trash (broken tees, Gatorade/beer containers) laying around.
For the price, $19 to walk 9, this course is a decent budget option.
Good value course
This course has a lot of areas that are in rough shape, the tee boxes are a bit beat up too. But for the price this is a good value. I wish they had a bar/restaurant. But they only have a snack shack. Staff are all super friendly and helpful.
Ponky in tough shape
Should have brought the weed wacker. Greens had vegetation growing and awful conditions
Worst conditions ever
Literally have never seen greens in worse conditions, even just walking across golf courses in the winter. Huge sand pits Literally in the middle of the greens.
Just not worth any type of money
Greens were nonexistent and course is worse than expected. Yes it’s cheap but rather spend a little more for a real round elsehwere
