Good experience
The course is a mixture of straightforward holes along with a few that require some "local knowledge" (holes # 4, 5, 13, 14 in particular). We found the course to be in fine shape. Tees, fairways and greens were all in very good shape. Green speed was reasonable and the greens have subtle breaks that make for a fun challenge. Pace of play was steady but not exceptionally quick. Our round took a shade over 4 1/2 hours with a tee off time of noontime. The pro shop and clubhouse are still located in trailers, so not much to write home about there, but the staff is very friendly, helpful and accomodating. They do have practice putting greens located conveniently adjacent to both the 1st And 10th tees, but there is no practice range on site. If you want to get loose before your round, I would suggest going to the Garrison Golf Center, about a five minute ride rom the course, to hit some balls ( a medium bucket cost us $7.00).
You get your money's worth
The course is located in a nice quiet area. As you pull in you drive on crushed gravel which makes you think they'll be paving soon. It's been like this for over 3 years. As you walk out of the car you head to the clubhouse ,which is an old trailer. ( now you wonder why it's so cheap to play) .If you need to buy balls feel free to purchase what's there, which is typically used dollar grab balls consist of top flite and range balls...Once your on the course , you notice that there are more geese and geese droppings on the ground than there is good grass. The only good thing about this course is that it's open and a good place to bring beginners so that they don't get discouraged losing x amount of balls. Bunkers are never raked and greens usually in rough shape. But for $45 on a weekend for 18 and a cart it's a good deal. It's golf
54 Holes Shot 89 All Three Times
Crystal Lake has become my go to course. Takes 35 minutes from Burlington to get there, with no traffic problems. Today was my third loop through and it gets better every time. No burnout this summer so the course is in great shape and the greens were absolutely beautiful today!!!!! I did fix about 27 ball marks but that's not the courses fault. I started at about 8 AM and finished around 11:30. 3 1/2 hours is pretty fast in my experience. Now it was Thursday morning so there weren't too many people out there. Crystal Lake is plenty of course for the average recreational player. It's challenging enough without beating you up. When it's too tough it's no fun. If you use GolfNow you can't beat the value playing Crystal Lake. I'll be back to play the fourth round and I highly recommend this course to anyone. Great course, great price, great golf.
Crystal Lake Golf Course Experience
This course is in excellent shape on the tees, fairways and greens. A majority of holes present their individual challenges to make the golf experience noteworthy.
Well maintained course
Very well maintained course with a nice layout. Course was not crowded and pace of play moved along. Will play again if opportunity arises
Much improved
Like most local courses the weather has been perfect for greenskeepers and Crystal Lake is no exception. Compared to two or three years ago the course is playable now, with very good greens. Several hidden carries for a challenging round.
The main problem with this course is that other then the clubhouse there is no drinking water, and no washrooms. This is a huge issue on a hot day.
Between The Houses
This is another golf course connected to a housing development. Recently the course was sold to a housing developer and a back nine was added to the original and older front. When he builds and sells all the new houses, they are very nice, I hope he puts some of the money into the golf course. This course could become a local favorite with some work and TLC. The greens are beautiful and plenty fast enough, you have to have good greens. The fairways, first and second cuts of rough and the bunkers need the work to make this course a very nice one. This course has great potential and I will go play it again soon. The layout is fine with enough well placed hazards to make it interesting. It's a fine, fun, enjoyable place to play. It does not have a fancy clubhouse, YET. I would assume they will have one someday. When you finish the 12th hole you need to follow the cart path between two houses, cross the actual street to the left and go between two houses on the other side to get to the 13th tee.
Don't waste your time unless you have lots of it......
This was the first time we played at this course. The layout was not bad but the fairways need lots of work. Not good when your ball lands on the fairway behind a large weed or patch of dirt. The pace of play was the worst I have ever experieced. Our tee time was in the early afternoon and it took 2 of us 5 hours to play 18 holes with a cart. There was no ranger and a threesome in front of us who knew nothing at all about golf etiquette. They spent more time looking for their ball than they should . We should have been allowed to play through. The group behind us joined us as well as the group behind them. There were 6 of us playing the last 5 holes. How much efforrt does it take to send out a ranger to make sure there is a 4 hour pace of play? Will not be returning.
Best course for losing balls
It is really frustrating when you see where your ball drops and then the course being in such bad shape that you can't find them. The fairways are like roughs and the roughs are basically a wild forest. I played this course for $40 but in the end it probably cost me an additional $20 for all the balls I lost.
I will say the course layout is interesting and the area is quite pretty. Their is minimal service available but the people are nice and while i did not eat their before or after the round the food looked legit.
I have played better courses for less, save your money and your patience and skip this course.
Excellent Greens - Course Needs Work
I've played this course a number of times so far this year and what draws our group back is the reasonable cost and the consistancy of the greens. Unfortunately the rest of the course needs work. Hopefully when things dry out the course management will put some work in making the fairways as good as the greens. Regardless of the fairway conditions we will continue to play this course.
Great Value
It's not a terribly challenging course, but it's well maintained. The greens and fairways were impeccable. For the cost of 18 holes here, you'd be playing at a much lesser course elsewhere. I'd definitely recommend it for any intermediate golfer. It's right off 495 as well so it's easy to get to. I drove down from Hampton NH and would definitely do it again.
Good value
Course staff very friendly, The rough is very difficult to hit out of not sure if it was because of recent rain but it was very high making it almost impossible sometimes to even find your ball on shots that just missed the fairway.
Good Course. Very good value.
Walked the back 9 holes. Conditions were not ideal because of recent rain, but the course was in surprisingly good shape. Staff was very accommodating. My take: is that Crystal Lake is reasonably challenging, nice course at a reasonable price.
