Nice course
Enjoyed the course layout and friendly staff. Great pace the three times I have played.
Good deal, odd golf course
I played the course for the first time on August 3. I walked. The walk was very easy, but the layout of the course was a bit odd. You could tell that some of the course was altered because of the new 55 and over housing that was built. The course was in relatively good shape, and it was a very good value, but some of the holes were odd to say the least. There are two part threes that are well over 200 yards and a couple of par fives which are barely 400 yards. There are also a few blind shots, and the driver is taken out of your hands on several of the par fours. Finally, the greens were often upside down bowls, making them hard to hit it hard to putt.
Crystal Lake
Perfect weather to play. Played in a threesome behind a foursome so the pace was a little slow; still finished in just under four (4) hours. Course was in pretty good conditions with only a few spots that were still wet and soggy. Greens were in great shape and the course was well maintained.
Too Slow on Weekends
Unbearably slow because they pack people in. Front 9 took 3 hours. Most people were leaving after the front because of the pace so the back picked up a little.
The greens are fast and fun.
I'm never going back on a nice weekend because of the pace of play.
Pleasant
Played course for the first Time! Course was in excellent condition. The clubhouse needs an upgrade, Bartender ,Starter and cart girl were very pleasant. Would definitely play again
Fore Better or Worse
Played Crystal Lake for over 30 years. Its gone from Country Club to crap and back close to Country Club conditions under Sterling mgmt. They’ve added new homes between the 8th and 9th, shortening the front nine considerably, 9 is now a 150 yd par 3 and 8 has a new green to the right. Tee to pin, conditions are mostly excellent, manicured sand traps too. Cart path only is a real challenge but the fairways were swampy in spots. Probably go back once more this summer.
Poor pace management & strange cart rules
Staff almost didn’t allow my group to take a cart with a 3pm tee time. Asked we have it back after the front 9. Round was very slow because everyone on the back was walking. Left the course and it was still light out for another hour.
Slowest pase of play ever… took 7 hours!
I get that people come here to drink but the pace of play was ridiculous! Group in front of us was leaving the course to grab drinks at the “clubhouse” while we waited to play. Greens were decent, the lake is pretty, couldn’t find our balls on one hole which faces the water (I think the group in front picked up our balls).
nice course
Course was in very good shape, Greens are very nice!! I can see the course being in excellent shape for the summer. I think the course is almost a hidden gem
