Get what ya pay for
Stoneham Oaks has poor fairway and tee box conditions for most of the holes. However, it is fun once you get over the fact you have to stick the green for every hole, which in essence, makes it a challenging course. Staff was very friendly and pace of play was fine.
Small Greens
Went to the course as a single, midday Friday. Got paired with a very nice member who was also walking.
Course was in pretty good shape. Some of the greens were half-aerated. They rolled pretty slow regardless. Tough for someone like me still trying to figure it out.
A couple of blind tee shots. Not super wide, but not super narrow. Enough length to play all the different clubs in your bag.
It was a tough walk for me, but it was a hot day and I'm not in good shape. I'd try the course again.
Very Hilly Terrain Going Out
Played this 9-hole par 3 course for the first time, booking through GolfNow. You're essentially climbing a hill going out to 5, and then coming back in to 9. While the holes are short (longest is about 180 yd from the back tees), the trek can be demanding depending on your conditioning.
The tee boxes weren't great during my round. Some of them were ground-under-repair, and collapsed all the tees together, or off to the side.
There were a few blind tee shots, if you like that kind of thing.
Most greens seem to be elevated, so if you miss it, you're looking at an uphill chip usually.
Pace of play is going to be a luck of the draw, depending on whether folks ahead of you are fully beginner or are moving reasonably. The marketing for the course says it is beginner-friendly, so it may draw more people looking to learn the game, so please be patient.
I expected my round to take about 1.5 hours, but it took a hair longer than 2 hours to finish
Cheap Price for a Reason
You won’t touch anything over a 9i on this course. Course conditions are extremely bad. The greens are slightly better but still only a 3/10. Only $15 to walk 9 holes, so I guess you get what you pay for. Not far off from a chip n putt. Also one of the younger green keepers is a huge jerk. He stands in the way of shots and trash talked my group.
Great for Price
Fun par 3. Great for a short afternoon round after work.
Good value
Good place to practice the short game for the price, but tee boxes and general area are in pretty rough shape. Course workers were very nice though
So Disappointed
I have played quick rounds at Stoneham Oaks for years. First off, no humans working there so if you need bathroom too bad, building is locked. Fairways needed mowing and tee boxes were dirt.
Overpriced for these crappy conditions.
