Course is in great condition
Love the fact that you get two different nines with the back being a little more challenging. Greens were in good condition.
Poor Pace of Play
Played 18 holes here and took 5 hours to play riding. No rangers on course to move play along. Waited on every shot. Course was in sub par condition. Wouldn't play here again.
Good but...
Staff was awesome. Pace of play was on par with time on card (4hrs and 15 minutes) but we waited almost 10 minutes on every hole so it seemed like a long round. Property is impressive when you pull in and I love the open, farmlike holes (which is most of them). There are a few tight and or gimmicky holes on the back. Personally, I don't understand why courses are designed to have a different feel about them on the front nine vs the back. I just don't get why this is desirable. This course would be better if it maintained the feel of holes 1-10, and 16-18 throughout. Holes 11-15 seem like they either ran out of room (they didn't, there's tons of space here), or are just there so they can tout a bit of a different "feel" on the back than the front. If I want a "different feel" I'll go to a different course.
2 unique nines
The staff is very friendly and accessible, with great practice facility and clubhouse... The best way to approach playing here is with the mindset you are playing 2 nine hole courses. The front nine is very wide open, semi links style, and you can make a lot of pars or birdies... The back nine is very scenic, but also tight and cut through the woods... All and all this is a great course for different levels of ability and is also walkable.
Lake Forrest
Greens are excellent, Fairway are excellent, tee boxes are excellent. Enjoyable course, they changed the front nine around a little and I liked it the way it played before but it was not drastic.
Surprising Find!
Great course! Tee'd off at 8:30am and greens were medium speed but very true. As the sun dried up the dew and we made the turn WOW were they rolling fast on the back 9! The starter was very friendly as was the inside staff. Course in great shape. If you haven't played this course before and are considering it give I suggest giving it a shot. You will not be disappointed!!!
Great course to play
The course was excellent I was paired with 3 people and it worked out well they kept me on task to golf well
Pleasantly surprised
Returning after a bad experience with pace of play and was surprised that it has improved. Nice golf course close to home for me. Happy to see things improving and looking forward to my next round at Lake Forest.
don't get cocky at the turn...
Lake Forest is about 10 minutes from my parents house and my dad and i play there every time i come to visit. The staff is very friendly and accessible, with great practice facility and clubhouse... The best way to approach playing here is with the mindset you are playing 2 nine hole courses. The front nine is very wide open, semi links style, and you can make a lot of pars or birdies... The back nine is very scenic, but also tight and woodsy, make sure you are well stocked on balls at the turn... All and all this is a great course for different levels of ability and is also walkable.
Loved it!
The whole property is pretty awesome from the time you enter the front gate. Played from the tips, which was challenging and fun (shot a 74). The greens were in great shape even with it being this late in the season. The greens had subtle breaks that made the slower greens challenging. Just a few rough spots but overall this time of year it was great. Will be back to play in the late spring and summer time next year.
Great value - like two course in one
First time on this course since relocating from Chicago to Ann Arbor. Green's fees were very reasonable for a well maintained course. What I really liked was the mixed personality of the course with the front nine a links style course and the back a tighter backwoods course. Enjoyed the course so much we stuck around and played 27 holes.
Fairways were better than most courses in this price range, although with the heavy rain that passed overnight, the sand traps were hard and mostly puddled in the middle. Fortunately didn't spend too much time there.
The overall layout of the front nine allowed for forgiving play, while the back was certainly less forgiving. Feel good when you work through the first nine with a good score, because you'll probably add a few strokes on the back nine.
Fortunately with the U of M game on Saturday, the course was pretty light which made for an enjoyable, unpressured round. We leisurely played with only a few waits for the foursome in front of us to move along.
Greens were not terribly difficult - undulation was minor.
Truly and enjoyable outing with my Son - we'll definitely be back.
Course has great character on each hole especially the back 9.
I plan on playing this course again before the end of the summer!
Fabulous Condition
The whole course was in tip top shape!
Enjoyed the whole round!
Loved it
Except for a couple quirky holes this is a gret course. Greens were in excellent shape.
Enjoyable round
Good variety of wide open fairways and then some narrower holders through the woodland. Greens are pretty well maintained but lack any real undulations or challenge - 3 putts are all your own fault!
Gimmicks
Course has too many gimmicky holes like hitting PW on a par 4. Greens rolled smooth and overall conditions were nice. Never believe a cart path should be within 10 feet of a green too.
Soggy and Sad
We did play in very wet conditions, in fact we had to walk the course. the biggest complaint I had is I had to argue with them so I didn't have to pay for a pull cart even though I paid for a round with cart!
I really liked this course
The Lake Forest course played very well...the green were a little rough in some spots but the fairways were excellent. The course was challenging for me but I shot a very good round for me.
pretty fair course
fun course to play one hole is a little hard to figure out
Something going on on every hole
Nice condition. Friendly staff.greens in great shape.
