This course is trash.
I’ve been playing golf for over 20 years and Gracewil golf course will go down as one of the worst maintained and overrated golf courses that I have ever played.
We paid $46 for two people to play nine holes which is a bit steep but figured it’s on par with some of the other courses in the area. The first red flag was the fact that they put our beer and ice in a plastic bag for us to keep in our cart. Apparently the use of coolers is far too advanced and futuristic for this place.
The next (and largest issue) with the golf course is how poorly maintained it is. The cart paths are either pure mud or are filled with giant pot holes where asphalt used to be. Get used to your drinks spilling all over the place as you just drive to your ball or the next hole.
The course is in the worst shape that I’ve ever seen a golf course be in. The greens are scorched and look like someone was doing donuts on them. They are super long and very, very slow. The fairways have, what we guessed were sand traps, but instead are giant sand pits from non maintenance. The tee boxes are literally just dried sand pits with tiny bits of grass barely hanging on.
If you’re in the area, save your money and dignity. Go play a nearby golf course and avoid giving your money to the poorest maintained golf course in Kent County.
For the price, I’ll play it
The course was soaked, the fairways weren’t cut. But the greens were great. For the rate, I’d say it was worth it. Listed as a country club, I expected a little better. Holes are all straight out, not lengthy at all.
Nice course- lots of trees
Every hole is tree lined, so hit the the ball straight or else - fairways were all cut and greens held. No sand
Solid course
Course is solid over all. Nice lay out, some challenging tight fairways.
The grounds crew however werr terrible. They would keep mowing right in front of you, or keep coming up right on your tail. There was large amounts of grass clippings around the greens. I feel as if sometimes this will happen but this was for a 11am tee time. Grounds crews should be well into cleanup by the time rounds are being turned.
Gracewill West
Had not played there for many years. Roughs were very long. (I know don’t hit it there) As typical of this course, greens are slow, but hold approach shots well.
Course is usually ok however it rained night before and it was like playing out of a swamp.
Should have closed for the day
Maybe not a fair review, but most of the course should have been closed due to the poor conditions. Fairways, greens, and tee boxes were all swampy or full of water. Just to bad, monetary wise a good value... in perfect condition.
Golf
Course was busy and not so good of shape. However great deal on golf now
gracewil
played on a very nice sunday afternoon and I thought the course would be jammed as it is just north of the city, but surprised at how empty course was they have 2 full courses on property with the holes pretty straight and laid out old school close together, bug many trees between the fairways keep it separated. I think this must have been a nice facility back in the day,but the cart paths are pretty beat up and a lot of the trees seem overgrown.the fairways and greens were not too bad,we got such a great price I would probably play it again just for that reason alone
Bottom Feeder
Good for brand new beginners.
Cheapest green fees in town. Must be because they don't employ a grounds crew, as this place was a mess. Overgrown, beat up, soaking wet, soggy, cart paths look like some Detroit streets. Totally not maintained when we played in April. Lot's of denim and sleeveless shirts. Yes, it's first come-first served, has a friendly staff and features 1980's prices, but that might be about the last time anyone did any work to it.
Skip it unless you're super desperate or super broke. If the latter, you may be able to cover your costs by collecting enough empty Natural Ice beer cans during your round and returning them to the nearby Walmart afterwards... :-)
Generous fairways
I really like this course, but it was very wet and we got stuck in the mud. Much nicer when it is dryer.
Decent course for a value round
I like the length and the greens are interesting. The tree lined fairways present a challenge if you don't hit is straight, but you can still find your ball. What was unusual was the bounce when your iron shots hit the green; they wouldn't hold. You would think a green like that would putt fast, but they were on the slower side. I think the grass isn't cut too tight, they may have a clay base rather than sand. Some of the fairways has very thin and sparse turf.
poor conditions
There are (2) 18 hole courses but tee boxes are all weeds (if not bare dirt) green aprons are really bad (same as the tee's). sprinkler heads do not have yardage but there is a 100, 150 and 200 markers. course does not drain well and will have standing water after a rain. No food except candy and hot dogs.
