Great layout
Located about 45 minutes from downtown Grand Rapids,MI. The course played very fair and have played the course many times in my career and last time was 5 years ago. Strange the fairway on 1st hole was being watered when we started so we played a back tee. Course was in very good shape and the greens got faster as the morning dew evaporated. Started at 70 degrees and finished at 90 degrees. The staff in proshop was very pleasant and wait staff in the lounge in the hotel connected to the course was very friendly. Beverage prices fair. We will be going back again.
Good course
Good course for the money, somewhat of a hidden gem. Need a ranger on the course for slow play, 5.5 round. Greens and tee boxes were in great shape. Will go back.
Nice course - slow pace
The course was in great condition other than the putting green. Nice setup and variety.
Our tee time was double booked, 8 golfers booked for the same time. This made for a very slow front 9, over 3 hours. The round took us just over 5 hours.
Great course
Great course for the price. Fairways and greens were in wonderful shape. Tee boxes could use some work, but nothing that would keep me from coming back to play.
Beautiful in the fall.
Course wasn't busy. (Was a Monday afternoon). We played at our own pace.. played 18 in a little over 3 hours. Greens were smooth and lightning fast. Trees starting to color up, will be beautiful soon.
Fantastic course
Love this course. One of the best courses for the money around.
Great course.
Haven't played Candlestone before. Weather was perfect and got a good rate from Golfnow so we thought, why not?. Glad we did. Course was in excellent condition except their tee boxes. Could use some work there. Expected there could be slow play with the perfect weather, but was pleasantly surprised. They book correct tee times so this didn't happen. Will surely play here again and would recommend to friends.
Hidden Gem
Candlestone was an incredibly pleasant surprise and is the epitome of why you “don’t judge a book by its cover”. Once you get past the gravel parking lot, modest pro shop, divey bar and grill, and get on the course, you quickly realize Candlestone is a hidden gem.
The greens were firm and fast and were in excellent condition. From subtle breaks on a few postage stamp sized greens to several two-tiered larger greens - they all feel unique and reward good golf shots. 5 different pin positions allow for much variety.
Each hole plays unique and there is a good mix of challenging holes, like the 216 yard par 3 15th, and easier ones, like holes 1 and 10, which are straight away par 4s.
The tips play over 7,000 but the blue tees at 6655 prove to be challenging enough. There isn’t too much water that comes into play, but most holes are carved out of wooded areas which will swallow up errant shots.
I was impressed with how well maintained the course was, especially considering it receives a good amount of play. The greens and fairways were immaculate.
Candlestone is one of the best value courses I have ever played! A must for anyone in West Michigan!!!
