Brookside Golf Course

About
Nestled in the gently rolling hills of Gowen, Brookside Golf Course has a tranquil, peaceful location that is ideal for a round of golf. The course opened in 1963 and has been locally owned and operated ever since. The golf course measures to a manageable 6,100 yards from the back tees, a seemingly short course by modern standards. Though it may not be what you're looking for if you want a truly formidable championship course but it provides a good and affordable round of practice. The front nine is slightly less demanding than the back. Overall Brookside Golf Course is gentle enough for beginners with a few strategically placed bunkers to make it challenging. There is also a meandering stream that wanders across a few of the holes.

Course has a few challenges for a beginner.
Coures is great but pin location for a average golfers were challenging.
Short course, narrow fairways
Played on a Sunday morning. No problem with GolfNow time, I was able to go off early and many groups allowed me to play through.
This is a decent layout, typical municipal course maintained. Some bare spots (pictured), but overall I enjoyed the game and would return.
Best bang for buck
Found this course on Golf Now. Have been twice now and will definitely be back.
Only complaint is they could space out tee times a bit. We were really backed up yesterday.
Getting closer and closer to FIVE star rating
Yup the guys are still at it cutting down trees. Like the way they put the logs around the water throughout course. Now the weeds are growing where the brush was cut, never ending battle men!
Good job
Serena the best, hooked up w Sam, he had to go to work in Greenville after 9 holes, nice chap.
Soooo cheap w golfnow
Played here before love the course and all the staff
Love the new blue tip tee bridge on 17! (And #8)
I haven’t played here now iand about a month maybe a little more but finally met the owner and of course Serena is running the clubhouse iis the friendliest person to give your money to. A very nice discussion with Mr. S and he and his work crew are Making changes here every time we come we saw a bridge setting at the 17th didn’t know how it was gonna pan out, but man is that cool, probably adds probably at least 25 yards or so to the hole with a whole new look to the hole it shares the blue tee box of number 15. There are not too many hands on owners who are out there getting their employees to see how to work hard to make a successful business, but he took a few minutes out of his time to talk to me, which is really appreciated.
The new blue tee box or reopened tee box of number eight gives it a whole new character also for the lower handicap making much tougher shot up the hill over the little ponds and waterways. The greens are running really nice and smooth and have come around and the fairways are getting better as we approach the height of the season. they are putting up some nice quality fence poles to keep people from not driving around greens and trying to sharpen up the turf around the greens and have cleaned out a lot of the areas around the green so you could chip back on.
So thank you, Mr. S And Serena for the quality and value, you are putting into your course and especially affordability in today’s ever rising green fee market!
The Back Nine
They started us on the back nine because it was less busy…good call. Not a lot of ahead of us so we weren’t backed up. Not a lot behind us, so I could relax. The round good and the course was set up nicely. Not very much to complain about even though the course is being worked on. Great day!!
Slow
Tee times to close….had to wait on every hole front and back 9.
Always improving, only need turf improvement
I have had a good work crew going here for the last few years, starting out trimming trees and continually making the tight course. A little bit more playable for the average golfer. Open up a few shots and cleared out sand traps made them a little better and improved a lot of little details like some Belgian block areas so yes each time I we come here there’s something to me seeing that’s new. Just played May 22 and I see they put finally some fertilizer on some of the greens but need it on the fairways to thicken up the turf other than that we always seem to get a pretty fair deal on GolfNow so we keep coming back. I enjoy the great bloody Mary they offer biggest I’ve ever had 32 ounces so keep up the good work Brookside and congratulations to the owner’s daughter for her graduation.
Fun course
We love this course. The staff is friendly the course has some challenges and the price is always right.
Review
The course was difficult, but fun! I think tee times could be staggered a little better, but overall had a great time at the course. Could see myself going back.
Good bang for your buck.
Pace of play was great. Course was in good condition. Come summer time might be quite a few spots that could dry out and be hard as cement if they don’t plant some seed and water a lot. But overall had fun and good bang for my buck.
