Lake Doster Golf Club

About
Lake Doster Golf Club in Plainwell is ranked as one of the top 25 golf courses in Michigan. The layout has undulating greens and watered fairways that will test even the most experienced golfers. The course is home to the affectionately nicknamed "Little Monster," its third hole, which boasts a reputation as the toughest par 3 in the state. This infamous hole features a tee that sits high above a treacherous green that is surrounded on three sides by water and even further protected with three sand traps. The hole is also completely isolated thanks to the surrounding mature trees. There is another par 3 on the golf course that is almost as equally tough, the 15th. There is a pond to the right that is seemingly out of play but it's still intimidating enough to push you too far left, risking a landing in the sand trap.

Nice fall outing
Played 9 on a beautiful fall day . Got done in an hour and 40 minutes
Course was in great condition.. should have had dinner there it looked good. Went to bay point and disappointed with their new menu. People said food at lake doster was good very enjoyable fall golf
The best this course has looked in 10 years
I’ve been coming here a few times a year for 10+ years and this course is in the best shape I’ve ever seen. All the greens are in perfect shape.
Worth it.
Staff was excellent. Course is “good” overall. The greens were 90% and the pin placements were very challenging to say the least. A few greens looked like they got damaged by mowers but only a few. Sand was extremely soft and made it challenging when you were in them. Would surely play again. The holiday weekend was busy. Wish they had an actual starter at tee box.
Pace
Overall course layout was pretty cool. The VP pace of play was horrible. Staff allowed multiple 6 and 8 in groups.
Great value
We really enjoy this course. At their current price point I don’t really have any major complaints. I would like to see ball washers up at each hole. This is the 3rd time I’ve been this year and the front 9 bunkers are still under repair. Greens were in great condition though. Staff was friendly. Will continue to visit periodically.
Play Lake Doster
Course was in fine overall condition. Greens were just right. When they finish the bunkers with the whitish sand, course will be A plus.
Positioning and Slope
Fun layout that values proper positioning off the tee and on the green. Best advice from the pro shop was to add a foot of break on slopes and it worked great, assuming you were careful with your speed. Plan to return to get my tee- off positioning down.
Lake Doster Review
The course was in its normal shape except most of the sand bunkers were being worked on with piles of sand on some kind of landscape fabric.
Placement is key
Greens were relatively fast with lots of slope so advice from the pro shop to add more break to your line was spot on. Definitely recommend the putting green before playing to get the speed right too. Was easy to miss balls in the rough when they settled and take your medicine and move on. Helpful course guide provided by the pro shop. Bunkers under repair for sand replacement which was WIP and a nice improvement. Will return.
