WestWynd Golf Course
About
Westwynd Golf Course in Rochester Hills is part of the Wyndgate Country Club, which is one of the most upscale private clubs in southeastern Michigan. The course itself is semi-private, it is open for public play. The championship course lives up to its reputation, boasting country club conditions and a beautifully maintained landscape. The layout features generous rolling fairways and undulating greens flanked with massive bunkers. The elevation changes throughout the golf course are subtle but tricky, making the putting surfaces one of the most challenging elements of the round. The contours and slopes allow for devious pin placements, which is especially true on the par 3s. Hitting the right portion of the green is essential to scoring well, as is managing the difficult and lengthy par 5s. The golf course is made even more challenging with mature trees and water hazards coming into play often.

Worth the play
Long holes, challenging greens, very fun course. One on the best in Oakland co
Challenging course, but fun to play
I enjoyed my round at Westwynd. The course is upscale and well maintained with lots of beautiful homes around the course (you will not hit them, though). I liked the cobblestone cart paths, GPS in the carts and scenic fairways/holes. There are not many water hazards on the course. This was my first time playing and prior course knowledge would have helped. My friend had played before so he gave some guidance. Otherwise, you need to play here 3-5 times to get the layout in your memory. I lost a lot of balls because I did not know where all the marsh and hazard areas were ahead of my shots. The fairways are open enough so that if you keep your shots in (and hit the landing targets) you have a good shot at scoring well. If you spray the ball all over the place, you will have a lot of penalty strokes. The greens rolled true and were challenging. The course is not easy, but well worth the $32 for the hotdeal price on GolfNow.
Great Course
They have GPS in the carts now. Long holes and a challege every time.
Beautiful course
My husband and I golf a lot of different courses and this was definitely one of the most challenging courses we've ever played. Tough bunkers and greens to say the least. Really enjoyed it and will definitely go again. The course's backdrop of homes and lots of woods was beautiful. I always love a challenge and this course was it. I definitely got more swings for my money this round :)
toughie
One oh most challenging courses I have played in fifty years. Very challenging. Must think about every shot!!#
Great course, very challenging!
The course ws in great shape, excellent condition. Loved the cobblestone cart path and course was well marked. It is a very challenging for the true amatuer player, many holes have trouble (tall rough) just in front of greens that can't be seen from the tee. It would be nice if first time players were notified either on the card or on signage. Would certainly come back to play again...
"Up North feel"
We teed off at 11am and we were done by 2:15pm. Only waited on the 4-some ahead of once. The GPS on the cart was very helpful. The fairways were in good shape, however, some of the tee boxes could use some help though. Overall, for the price paid on GolfNow, it was an amazing deal ($32 bucks).
A challenging semi-private club.
I've played here about 4-5 times the past couple years, and it's always an enjoyable experience. I don't know about you, but how often do you get the chance to play a semi-private club with country club conditions for an affordable price? That's what you get here. The course, especially the par 5s, can play rather long since accuracy is at a premium off the tee. There's seemingly always some sort of trouble (usually marshes) lurking off the tee, so take less club and just get the ball in play if you're at all nervy about taking driver. The par 3s can play rather long, especially from the tips, so play more than enough club, swing smooth, and make solid contact to get it there. The par 3 6th is dramatically uphill, so take 2 more clubs than your usual choice. Pack your patience, and a few more balls, but have fun!
great course
This is a very well run and maintained course. Will be back.
Some very challenging greens
Very well kept course with some very interesting elevations on some holes as well as greens.
high slope, difficult course for average player.
The course has a couple holes that you have to figure out, and off the fairway there is very little forgiveness. The conditions were difficult the day we played, the rough was very deep, wet and it was windy (Westwynd). I want to play there again and I would recommend the course to a low handicapper. The greens were spectacular for a public course!
Great Golf Course
Listen to the starter, target golf! Lots of fun. Highly recommend this course…bring extra golf balls.
This course was a fun challenge!
Had a great time playing this course. It was a bit challenging for me, but I appreciated the difficulty.
Very nice good challenge from the back tees
I will be going back. Challenging approach shots. Most greens are protected by bunkers or hazards
Bad Layout
For a semi-private course it was not good, course cconditions. Should have been better, greens were slow and inconsistent. Also the course layout was not good had a few holes thats were nice but some that didnt fit like hole 8. Was very disappointed since we drove an hour.
Challenging and Beautiful Course.
This is a good target-links style course. There are still quite a few holes where the driver is in play. The greens are undulating and fast. Great variance in elevation from tee to fairway/green on a lot of holes.
Great round
Course was in great condition,. The pace of play was excellent We didn't use the clubhouse since it was Mother's Day and they were serving a special brunch. The bunkers needed some work but expected so early in season
One Tough Cookie
Granted, 2014 is off to a very slow start for nice weather, but I enjoy playing when it's windy. Today was on the cool side, but when you see this course, it is spectacular! Can't wait to play it when the weather's warm and all the leaves are out...then it'll be something else even more beautiful.
We played from the blue tees, which made it very difficult hitting into the wind, but that doesn't matter when you see this layout. There are lots of elevation changes throughout, hitting up to the greens, winding fairways, marsh areas you don't see, especially on the par 5's short of the greens. When you look at the pictures on the scorecard, pay attention to hitting your ball on the fairway. These marshy areas are not seen, but regardless, after your first round, you'll be prepared for the next. The condition was better than I expected for this year's lousy start, but this course is a must play....just beautiful!
Beautiful course.
The course and facilities are well maintained. The wooded, rolling landscape is beautiful. The holes are challenging with some well placed sand traps, hills, and water features. There is a nice mix of par 3's, 4's and 5's. My only recommendation--bring extra balls as several of your tee shots are over hills, therefor blind, and finding your ball can be frustrating and time consuming.
Satisfied entirely
This was the first week that West Wynd was open this season so there was no crowd. I was given the option to join one of 2 twosomes (which I never saw) or go alone. Since it was the season beginning and I had never played there before I went alone. A foursome let me play through and I never saw anyone again. The grass was spring green and I assume the roughs will be taller later in the summer. The greens played faster than I expected but I enjoyed them; some were sloped but they were fair. I was surprised when I played several holes that shared greens (16/18 comes to mind). A number of greens were not visible from the tees. I will definitely return, I'll bring friends next time I play.
