Staff not good (except ranger)
Hole in one!!!!
Very happy and disappointed, the staff just said nice job take a scorecard and frame it. That's it? It was my first ever and I didn't know what to say or do. After I left and told some friends they said the course should have logged it, instead they did nothing. Oh well it was still a great feeling and I'll always remember it :)
Ranger was nice and took me into the clubhouse and was telling the guy however the counter guy did nothing at all..
Nice links style course....
I have been played at this course several times in the last few years. It is a nice links style course and is well kept.
Note of caution - some of the holes play real long !
My only concern is the backups that happen on hole 2 and 3 - hole 2 is a short par 4 (driveable) and hole 3 is a par 3 - I have always seen a lot of clogging happening at these holes which slows down the progress. My suggestion to the management is to swap the front 9 with the back 9 and vice versa - that will definitely speed up play and remove this clogging.
This time I also saw a lot of geese on the course - something needs to be done to remove them - they are a nuisance and make the course dirty.
very undulated, lots of heather grass
if you like target golf once in a while, this is a good one to hit.
lot of somewhat blind tee shots so you wont be pulling out the driver every hole but if you play it smart on placement you can get a good score. greens and fairways are pretty undulated so you wont be hitting off flat ground most of the time but did make for some nice scenery
Very Cost Effective Ultmate Links Course
This is a very interesting golf course--it is really a true links style. It is difficult to play for first time because it has very unusual shot lines with blind shots and not so apparent hazards on several holes. Ideally one would be with someone who played there before to guide through those lines and hidden or semi-hidden perils and to advise "where to miss" (at least two of the par threes are bit of a bear to play and can be very penal if one misses the wrong way) . If one knows that then the course would be moderate difficulty as it has relatively wide fairways. The greens while not fast do not hold balls really well so the group had a lot of "roll-offs" on chips and pitches. Nevertheless, cost to course quality, it is very cost effective.
White tees make you feel good about your game
With four sets of tees, the foursome in front of us selected the 3rd (blue) tees and were holding us up a bit for the first three holes. Greens were freshly cut and held our approach shots. The fourth hole (when playing from the white) is less than 400 yards for a par five. Should have hit from before the water on this hole.
Most holes allow a little bit of spray but you can easily end up in another tee box. Never hit it into the sand, but workers were really fixing things up for the weekend including ranking the bunkers. All the rain this season made for a pretty thick rough but it also helped keep the fairways green and free from dead areas.
This was the first course I've broken 80 on and for the price, I'd recommend it to most anyone.
Great condition.
I really like this course. It's always in great shape. The greens roll nice. It's not too long or too difficult but if you hit it crooked, you pay the price. It's very fair for amateur golfers.
A course where you can score well with different clubs. Challenges with water and sand but usually not directly in the way.
Great tee spacing for all types of golfers. I play bogey golf and usually play the white tees so as not to slow play. On good days I can play the blue tees with my son-in-law while his 2 buddies play the pro/black tees and have a great time. Consider Blackheath my 'Home' course and have never been disappointed. Recommended for everyone and all handicaps.
Blackheath
Very playable and fair links style course. Only negative is there are more than a few holes where you are in dangers way even on the tee box.
Better information and a super time
Even though it was cold and windy, we had a good time. Range was closed and we were forced to start on back 9 'due to leagues later on'.. this information could easily be posted to their website so there wasn't a surprise when we arrived. Marshall did a good job putting us (2some) out behind a 3 and ahead of a 4 as the 4 were dreadfully slow (a 3 hole gap opened behind us). For the money it was good track and shooting a 75 didn't hurt!
Extremely good value
Snagged a tee time for like 11 bucks and sure glad I did. Course is really good shape with maintenance in action all over the course....Will be back this month.
Average links course
Blackheath is a good deal if you pay <=$25. Otherwise I would say it is worth skipping. Tee times are booked 5-6 minutes apart and due to this, you could be in for a lonnnng round on afternoons and weekends. Some of the starters out there rush you on the first tee as they are trying to get everyone off on-time, which never happens. Other than the pace of play, the course is scoreable and you can bomb it around out here. The course is short, if you aren't playing from the black tees. I always wonder why I never see anyone else playing from the blacks, with the exception of myself and the publinx teams. Black tees got some golf holes on them, with all the long par 4's usually into the wind. Good par 3's as well. Tee off first during the week and you will be satisfied.
great links course for 1st timers
this was a great course for the cost($15)but not more than $20
The course is wide open
Because there are no trees, you can have people from another hole in your fairway a lot. Also because there were no trees, it was very windy. Lacks toilet facilities on the course. The course was in very good shape except the greens were aerated and the holes were not filled in so your ball would roll all over the place.
Excellent course.
Great condition. Very friendly staff. Always a pleasure playing there.
Best links style course around.
Although my score usually isnt very good here, love playing links style golf very different and challenging.
Decent course that plays fairly easy
The course is kept in fair to average condition. The course is tight with few trees. A good challenging course for the begginer level golfer.
All About the Greens
I played Blackheath earlier in the season and conditions were good. Don't know if the hot weather was the reason or poor mainenance, but the greens were the worst I've ever played on. They were full of bumps. To make matters worse, they put out a group every 4 minutes resulting in a 3 group pile up on the 2nd tee. It took over 5 hrs to play the round.
Good course excellent greens big and good speed
The issue with this course is lay-out. Tee boxes are very close to greens and other fairways. Course could be consider slightly dangerous!!!! Especially from the back tees. Great value course with varoius tee boxers for all. Whites are extremely short. Blue should be consider the men norm.
Links without an ocean
I play all over metro detroit but for some reason whenever i go to the heath i always get a little more excited.
Total links style course with large undulating greens that roll very true for a public course, and trust you will walk off a few scratching your head.there are no trees on the course(in play anyway) but the long fescue and heather can give a weak swinger some trouble. the fairways are very geanerous. but watch out for the bunkering they are placed in all the right spots. make sure to check out the greenside bunker on 10. its so deep it has stairs. one other thing is you get the high winds coming out over the hills and rochester rd witch can make things interesting (hope you got a knockdown in the bag).
