Course was challenging from the tips, but still scorer friendly
Links style course was very well maintained. Challenging but fair, holes that are very easy to score on. Greens fairly smooth, but a little soggy for my liking. I would reccommend that you play this course. Price was great thru golf now, however, regular prices were a little steep. Starters kept the pace of play pretty average, there were a few backups on the shorter holes.
Great layout, not much trouble to get into, challenging greens.
I really enjoy Blackheath. You really can't get into much trouble here -- shared fairways, so if you spray the ball, you're still in play.
They could do a better job with their Rangers, but that's true of most golf courses these days.
The last two times I've played there I got hit by a golf ball (no one yelled "fore") -- thankfully, the ball hit the cart before it glanced off of my nose & lip.
Yesterday, there was a foresome that drove through our fairway and picked up our tee shots! Couldn't believe it -- some older gentlemen who never looked back to see three guys on the tee waiving our arms, yelling "hey, those are our balls!!".
Oh, we had a wonderful cart girl out there last week -- problem is, the only beer they sell is Bud Light, Miller Light, etc. Come on guys -- sell some good beer!
Still -- I really like the course and will keep coming back.
Its a nice course to go play, but slow most recently play 8.11
Its a nice course to go play.
Just wish it would play a little faster. Seems like most of the times I play this course its at least 5 .25 to 5.5 hours , one time 6 hours.
Id give it a higher overall rating if play time was faster
Good but slow
Played Black Heath for the 1st time, 8/11/13. After playing courses in northern Michigan as well as some in the Detroit area that look like courses up north, it was nice change to play Black Heath which is a more open links concept. It was in good condition. Glad that the heavier fescue really doesn't come into play unless you are very wild because it would have only added more time to an already lengthy round. Although we did'n't have any really really long waits, we did wait on just about every tee. Black Heath sends groups out every 8 minutes and with a very short par 4 2nd hole and a short par 3 3rd hole, you are waiting right from the beginning. I would definitely go back but it would have to be a day when a longer than usual round would be okay.
Fun to play, fair but challenging
Enjoyable day greens are very nice, loved the rolling terrain. Would play again.
well maintained and a good value.
The course is in good shape and fun to play. The forward tees are favorable for women golfers. My wife and I enjoyed the round.
Nice links style course
Fun links style course... well maintained. There is some elevation as well..pretty cool for course around here
Great condition (greens, tee boxes, fairways)
Mike in the pro shop is very friendly and kind.... The course is in great condition. Nice fast greens. Pace of play could have been a little quicker. However it was a Sunday at 2:30.
Backed up and very slow
The golf course was very slow and the tee times where not manage good
poor green conditions.
People need to repair their divots on greens. Or the course needs to do it every evening/morning. Terrible green conditions. Other than that, course is great. Very slow play as well.
Course was great, but groups were on top of each other
I played with a friend on a Saturday morning and we got paired up with a couple of guys. There was a huge backup at the first tee box because they were sending groups off every seven minutes. The starter was this guy with an English accent and when we were in the fairway ready to hit our second shot, he was yelling at us to 'hit the dang ball' from the tee box. As if there was anywhere for us to go. The group in front of us had just gotten off the green and he was yelling??? Ridiculous. It took us an hour to play the first two holes but then the groups spaced themselves out naturally as the day went on. The entire round took five hours so not terrible.
The course is always fun to play, but that starter made me pretty angry. I mean, show some respect for the game.
Play was unbearably slow.
The course management was friendly, but apparently can't schedule very well.
Took three and a half hours to complete nine holes, so I quit at the turn. Staff was fully aware of the issue, but refused to make improvements to speed up play.
Course plays well but they book tee times too close together.
I enjoyed the course but we were getting harassed by a ranger a lot of the time to speed up our play, even though we always had to wait for the group in front of us. Seems like they could be better organized.
Comfortable scoring setup
I found the course well maintained but too many fairways interfered with other fairways. Since this is a links course, there are no trees to separate fairways but there should be somethings to encourage more thoughtful positioning of shots.
Slow Play.
It was disappointing that they paired 4 total strangers that booked on golfnow.com together, to form a foursome, regardless of tees that were being hit, and golfer skill levels. We were told that no twosomes would be permitted, yet on the course we encountered multiple twosomes, and even a group of eight! Must be different rules if you book with golfnow.com
Scottish style links course, quite wide open yet challenging pin positions and greens.
blackheath is a challenging course yet a good place to get out on a nice day with friends.
unexpectedly good course. a little above average staff. good price during the week, average pace of play.
this course surprised me. it is laid in the mid city area of Detroit, so i didn't expect much, but it was a good course to get out on and just play. not too challenging but still required some skill. greens were in nice shape which was par for the rest of the course. overall good course to get the guys out on the course for a day with friends
well maintained, great fairways and greens
stay in play, heather rough will destroy your score, fairways and greens are in great shape
Solid links course
The course was in very good shape. The front nine plays more open than the back nine, but unfortunately they started us off the back. The greens were in great shape, rolling very true. Pace was a little slow but for a pseudo holiday not bad. The club house is just a glorified pole barn but if your there for the golf, that shouldn't bother you. All in all a good course to play, specially for the price.
