Stony Creek Golf Course

About
Stony Creek is part of the Huron-Clinton Metroparks system and many locals consider it to be one of its gems. There aren't any residences near the golf course, giving it a secluded feel and providing unhindered views from the elevated tees. The course opened in 1976 but underwent a major renovation that included re-sculpting the bunkers and reconditioning the entire golf course. The layout features several doglegs and a surprising amount of elevation changes. The fairways are tightly lined with trees and bunkers are strategically placed along the greensides and landing zones. There are also lakes and ponds that come into play on six holes on the front nine and three on the back. Stony Creek's par-3 17th is the most memorable water hole and the 14th is also notable for its tiny "postage stamp" green.

Great course layout
The greens too shaggy and slow
Tee boxes need lots of attention not level and not much grass
Going to be fair
I've played here probably 50x but this was my first or second time this year and the greens being that long is embarrassing (and yes this was after being cut). Ridiculous to think that's acceptable for any course. Pretty much made this a joke of a round to play.
Staff is generally nice though and they have a nice course overall (I saw a ton of damage though not sure if it was intentional and they are changing things or what).
Pricing is very fair. Course just wasn't in great shape sadly. Maybe my timing just sucked cause I've never seen it like this.
Pace of play
Pace of play was extremely slow and didn’t get done with 18 holes until after 9 after starting a little before 4pm. Tee boxes were completely torn up too making it hard to tee off
beautiful course, but.......
i preface this by saying that there has been lots of rain the last few days. disappointed that it was cart path only which led to a long round. The driving range was also closed which was disappointing. Very soggy conditions which led to painfully slow greens. This is my 1st time playing this course and I'm going to give it a pass as all the things that I didn't like were probably due to the weather. I will play it again under better conditions as it is a very nice course.
Condition
Greens were in nicely condition.
Fairways in below average condition.
Not at all friendly for lady golfers
Holiday golf
It’s the first time I’ve golfed on a holiday. It was a lot of fun. The only drawback was the first tee was backed up 20 minutes. The 10th tee was open, but they wouldn’t let us play the back nine? We waited at every tee throughout the round. So just used the time to talk.
Good Layout Need Ranger Due to Slow Play
Overall not a bad course with a decent layout and in decent condition. They need a Ranger to hurry play. It was a 5 hour round but luckily I was with nice people and we had a good time despite of slow play. Mosquitos on 17 and 18. Back nine we had 3 walkers that slowed play as well. Also don’t forget to add in the $10.00 park fee to the overall cost. 😉
Great course
Great place, highly recommend. Felt a little rushed, we had a back up. But it was nice. Make sure to bring bug spray it is rural with many ponds, so mosquitoes are abundant.
The course was so backed up
We showed up 10 minutes before our tee time and had to wait 10 minutes AFTER our tee time because it was backed up. In the middle of the FIRST hole we had a worker tell us to play best ball because people behind us were complaining of us taking too long… but we had just started playing and had been waiting for the people in front of us. Since the guy behind us was a single we let him play through and still ended up waiting at every hole because the group in front of him was still playing. The course was so backed up and we wanted to play a standard game of golf not best ball and the employee did not tell the people behind us what was happening so we felt extremely rushed and ended up just picking up most of the time so the people behind us could keep going just to find that the group in front of us hadn’t even teed off yet. Would not recommend going there we did not get our money’s worth!!
course play slow after rain
I booked a solo round for myself Friday and was teamed up with a nice couple who played fairly well.
We had a wet soaking rain just before the round which slowed play down to very slow. (cart path only slowed things even more.
I had to bail out after 9 holes because of the pace of play. 10 minutes between shots and I had commitments after the round that forced me to cut the round short.
Because I had prepaid through GN, they said they would notate that I only played nine, and that I would have to call GN for a refund.
Great day to play gold
Before the game, I worried about the weather. The weather turned out to be great! A beautiful sunny day in the mid 70s. Can't ask anything better than this. We were playing a little bit slow because this is the first game in two years. Sorry for the folks behind us. I hope we didn't delay them too much.
Fun challenging course, tee boxes need maintenance.
Wonderful 18 holes. Staff wonderful and a challenging course. Some of the tee boxes were in rough shape and need maintenance. Some of the greens as well. O er all a fun challenging day, and, a tremendous value for the money.
Pace of play good for public course.
Course well kept and pace moved along pretty well. Took about 2 1/2 hours for 9 hole round.
