fun course
rough down made it very playable
gets progressively more challenging and more scenic
lots of big hills
Great value course
Course was in terrific shape. Everything was great but I do believe that the course needs more yardage markers & additional signs saying 'xx yards to corner' or 'pin is in line with this marker' as there are many blind shots where had no clue where the pin was or distance points. Normally, I use GPS on phone to avoid this but there's quite a bit of deadzone at the course.
Descent spot
This course had a pretty challenging layout, it was pretty early in the year, so I can imagine it gets even tougher when the tall grass starts growing. I went during lockdown, and the course was pretty packed and slow, but that seems to be par currently.
Good Value
I snagged 18 holes with a cart for a really good deal. The course was in fine shape for spring. The greens were in seven shape as well as the fairways. The pace of play was slow. We had a twosome in front of our foursome that help us up on almost every hole.
Windy day of golf
I have played this course several times, seems like every round it has been very windy, today was no exception. Probably 20 mile an hour winds gusts to 30-35. We are in the middle of the COVID 19 pandemic so just glad to be out. Pace of play was slow , waited on every shot but still finished in a little over 4 hours. The place was jam packed. Warm Saturday so it brought people out I guess. Nothing else to do in Minnesota right now. Per the social distancing course guidelines there were no rakes for bunkers, no ball washers, no benches. Course was overall in good shape, greens ran pretty true. The greens need some water, pretty dry. Bunkers need attention, they have not been touched all year. I know there are no bunker rakes for people to rake after themselves but it would be nice if the grounds crew would use their riding bunker rake each day so it is a fresh start each day. I am sure it is just a spring staffing issue which is expected. They used some type of foam insert for the COVID 19 raised cup. This needs to be addressed because of the wind they did not work properly, the flags were sideways and the foam was coming out of the holes. They should use plastic or some other system. Played a red wing golf course the day before and they had a swim noodle wrapped around the flag stick and it worked great. Overall a decent time for a good price!
Gopher Hills is back!
Played this course a few times and was not impressed last year. However, after playing it this Spring I must say it looked in great shape and the pace of play was excellent. If you have never played this before be prepared keep your ball low as the winds can really whip up in this area and the course doesn’t offer too much mercy shielded by bigger trees. It’s great to see this course thriving again. I will be back this year!
Great Experience
The course was in good shape, the staff I encountered were awesome. The course was very busy slowing down the pace of play but overall a great time. With all that’s going on it was wonderful to get out and enjoy a day of golf. Will most definitely be back again and again.
Great day.
A course for all levels of play. Don’t let the lack of trees fool you. Hit it straight or pay the price. Shot drive from the south metro but worth it
Always a treat
A nice variety of holes and lies
And where else can you play golf with gophers watching
The course was in good shape for spring. The greens were in Great shape
Field of Dreams
Gopher Hills lived up to its name when I played it for the first time on August 8th. Set in the middle of farming country, the course was a continuous change in elevation, leading to numerous uphill, downhill and side hill lies. The front nine was rather wide open. The back nine, however, was a bit tighter with tree lined fairways on several holes. Overall, the course was in good condition and it was a fun round of golf. There were even a couple sightings of the namesake gophers. Everyone in pro shop was friendly and the club had a nice area for post-round drinks and meal. I'm glad I took the time to find this course and would recommend it without hesitation.
