Golf Advisor: Top Courses in Kentucky (2016 #10)
Reviews
Resort course feel
Some beautiful holes but a very short and relative easy course.
Sarge
Battlefield is nice course. They are doing some renovations to make it better. $10 deal on GN was great but $9.27 for "tax and fees"???
Nice
This was a nice little course, the greends are small, fairways are tight. good condition
Wish it were my home course...
This was the second time my father and I have played at Battlefield, and it was even more enjoyable than the first (this past Mem. Day weekend). The greens roll smooth and true, the rough is only mildly penal and not deadly, and the layout is extremely enjoyable with lots of elevation changes and interesting fairway angles. This past harsh winter took a toll on a few isolated spots on fairways, but it didn't negatively impact our round. Speaking as a mid/mid-high handicapper, only two things could be improved on this course:
1. Some of the tee boxes were fairly lumpy and un-level. I would have felt a bit more comfortable kicking off a few holes on more flat and level ground.
2. There are several blind tee shots that will leave the visiting golfer guessing on where to aim. Pictures of the holes, either on tee placards (probably expensive) or on the score cards (probably inexpensive) would take the uncertainty out of those shots but still leave the challenge of properly aiming the tee shot.
Wonderful course, I look forward to playing it again!
Good for the price
Good for the price. There is a few holes that need some work but what course doesn't.
fun for all golfers
A fun course, semi chalanging, great value for your money.
Will play again
Friendly, great shape, lots of water for hot days , good sand , greens true. Would like to see a little healthier snaks for turn but ok if your a hot dog person. Will definitely play again.
Risk reward
I really enjoy this course. It offers a lot of risk reward holes. Really challenges your game with offering up some pretty interesting holes. Great course, great staff, a must play in central Kentucky.
Small, Fast Greens Make for a Challenge
The course had just been aerated so there were spots and tee boxes that were still "recovering". We were right behind the guy doing tee box maintenance on the back nine so all the tee markers had been removed and not replaced.
Not a long course but the greens are small and play fast. My buddy had a nice day with an 81! We started at 7:45 and felt like we had the course to ourselves and finished before the heat of the day.
The pro shop was well stocked and every employee we dealt with was friendly and asked about our round.
Can be challenging.
Course was in excellent condition after the winter and wet spring. Greens extremely good. There are a number of blind shots from the rear tees, so someone new to the course should go forward to look before teeing off on the blind holes. Was paired with a junior tour player who was very long off of the tee. His length got him into trouble on occasion, but the pairing was pleasant. Will definitely play again.
Value for dollar was fair
The fairways were non-existent - pure dirt
The greens were very hard(firm)
could no hold a shot on any green
greens were extremely fast and bumpy
Course layout was nice on the front and a bit to spread out thru out the neighborhood on the back nine.
Lots of Variety/Experience History!
Our twosome arrived a little rushed from rain, wind and construction on our 4-hour drive to visit family nearby, but the staff was exceptional at 4 pm on Friday.
We only played 9 holes, would have played a few more b/c weather was getting better, and really enjoyed the course. Some tough par 4s, some fun par 4s, enjoyed both par 3s and the 1st and last holes are both great, especially #1.
My partner struck the ball well, as did I, and the long par 4s are reachable with good drives and accurate approach shots.
Super-fast greens! I did my usual wedge shot at #1 and hit it to the usual roll-up spot and it rolled to the back of the green. Two days before, on my home course in WV/OH, I had 29 putts for 18, with 8 one-putts. At Battlefield, I shot a 40--20 shots, 20 putts. Hey, that's golf, that's part of the challenge when experiencing new greens. Both my partner and I had several "inchers" that just missed going in plus a few "lippers" each.
Fairway grass still coming in, so we were liberal with lies b/c it is still "spring training" after the winter we had and we are here to get some licks in, not compete for the Masters.
Great Senior rates on the weekdays M-Th, we will be back to play the whole 18 once the fairways come in.
Super-friendly and courteous staff!!
Battlefeild golf course
We booked this course on golf now for 3:50pm it was our first time playing and we got lost and arrived at 4:00.. We were then told that we could not play because we were 10 minutes late..by the way NO ONE was behind us or even had a tee time booked and there was no one on the course we are now out of 26 dollars and no round of golf first the course said it was golf now policy then we called golf now and the course said it was their policy terrible customer service the desk worker would no lt contact the golf pro and told us to leave never heard of this in my life! Absolutely awful
The course is in great condition for this time of year.
Great course for a great price. Can't go wrong. Greens in great shape.
All around great course to play.
Greens were the fastest I had played all year, challenging but true. There is a good mixture of diffcult and easy holes. For the middle of November, this course is in excellent condition. Staff very courteous. Well worth the trip. We will be going back soon.
Excellent greens
The course was in very good condition, especially for this time of year (late October). I played alone but was still able to move along at a quick pace. The greens were in very good condition. They were firm, but the ball did hold on approach shots. Putts rolled true at a good pace.
battlefield golf course
Had a very good time here, they let me go off back nine because of a small scramble shotgunned off front nine. I played with the ranger and his friend had a really good time I would play this course again.
Nice course
We really enjoyed playing this course. Fairways were in excellent condition. The greens were a challenge for us, only because we aren't accustomed to fast greens. We look forward to playing this course again.
Many blind tee shots
I enjoyed playing this course, it's length is ideal for the middle to high handicapper when played from the white tees. If you are not pushed as I was not you can drive ahead to see where the dangers are but if it was steady you would be playing blind when playing it the first time. I would suggest a map put on the card and a hole layout on each tee would be extremely helpful for a first time player of this course. There were a few spots that needed to be attended to by the maintenance people but when you consider it is almost the end of the season the course was in very good shape.
Great fun, excellent value
I love this course. Visiting from San Diego, CA. Loved the historical background of the course. Very impressed with the layout and condition of the course. Beautiful, and lots of fun and challenging holes. I had the first tee time of the day, and finished in about three hours. Best value for the money of all the courses I have ever played.
