Love This Donald Ross Course
Always a pleasure to play Rackham. I've been coming here for 50 years and it's in the best shape ever. Pace was a bit slow due to pokey threesome ahead of us. Ranger talked to them but that made no difference. First-timers thinks the course looks easy but there are some long par fours and the wind always sweeps across the course to add to you challenge.
Rackham
We arrived 30 minutes ahead of our tee time and they let us go out and play. Pace of play was great, we really didn't see anybody out on the course for a Tuesday morning. Greens were pretty quick, and were in good shape. Tee boxes weren't amazing but they were definitely doable. As a twosome, we finished our round in 3 hours, and I'd definitely come back to play again.
Ehh
My buddy and I showed up with plenty of time to spare for our round. The starter proceeded to let two groups of 4 that were late go out ahead of us. This resulted in a log jam and awful pace of play. It took us over 2 hours to get through 5 holes! The ranger was cruising right by the slow groups and never said a word. Eventually we just skipped a couple holes to get a head of the mess. I've played there many times and had the same issues. The value for money at this course is pretty terrible.
Great course
Great course. Challenging, but honest. No beer in the clubhouse
Review
The course has a great design, some very long par 3/4s - no alcohol service if you're into that, and it is not allowed on course. I wish the rangers would have been a little more aggressive - course was also a bit of a mess in areas and we haven't had any major rain in about a week
Donald Ross
Rackham has withstood the test of time, great greens and tough par 3s on the back 9
Average public course in Metro Detroit
Tough greens demand precise approach shots to have a chance at birdie/par. A fair amount of ground under repair from weather damage. Would be nice if this course could inject some money into it and really restore this Donald Ross design to it’s full potential. Overall value is fair for the weekend. No issues with pace of play early in the morning. For Metro Detroit you can do better but you can also do a lot worse.
Great course, struggling from all the rain
The course is long, natural and challenging. There has been so much rain the the area over the past month and there are a lot of damaged fairways.
The greens are in great shape, and other than that the course was good.
Being a Saturday in June and a nice day we expected a bit slow of pace, and we had it, 19 took just over 5 hours, we teed off early AM.
One issue we had happen 5 different time was having people hitting into our group and not giving a “fore” warning. That is not a reflection on the course, but they could perhaps have a ranger on duty to address it. Some were extremely close calls.
Friendly course
The course was fair for the average golfer. Wet weather this spring has caused this course to have pretty severe water damage at this point.
Awesome classic Donald Ross Layout
Course has gotten much better over the past year! Looking awesome! Hope to see others checking out this gem.
Over priced and slow
Place will sell as many tee times as people will buy, I’ve left without finishing a round multiple times because it was so slow
Decent course
If you are looking for something quick, in and out, rackham is your best bet. A good central southeast Michigan location. There were some wet zones considering it rained the day prior. I give it 6/10 score
