Slowwwwwww
If you have time for a 6 hour -18 riding then go for it. The course is cheaper and brings out the inexperienced golfers that do not understand rules or pace of play.
Great Course if You enjoy waiting to Hit!
This course is over-booked with low fees and no rangers so every hacker in SE Michigan comes to enjoy a six hour round of un-replaced divots and lost balls.
If you are new to golf, this course is for you. If you want a good day on the links, anywhere us better than Rackham.
This course has great features
The course is open but challenging. It has some long par 3s. Beautiful greens and well maintained
Just ok.
The course was in very poor condition. There were hazards everywhere. I found it very hard to find the next home sometimes and the cart paths were pretty much nonexistent. However for the price I paid, it was a pretty good value.
Management is a shame, great course, poorly managed
Rackham could seriously be a gem and return to its old form. Unfortunately this will never happen with Vargo Golf managing it. I have given this course so many chances to change my mind (15+ rounds this year) and every time i leave disappointed / angry. Not because of the way I played, just the way the course is run. Vargo cares about one thing and one thing only - getting as many rounds out of a day as possible. I prefer to play early, one of the first tee times. Every time I play, while making the turn, I end up behind 9 holers that they allow to tee off the back nine....directly in front of golfers making the turn. I understand Vargo is in the business of making money but this practice sucks...bad. There is nothing worse than playing a great round, not waiting at all, only to come to a screeching halt. I have written an email to Vargo (no reply) and spoken to the gentleman who manages the course (doesn't care). It sucks because I live in the neighborhood that borders Rackham and would love to call it home. Overall the course is in decent shape. Needs drainage help as many fairways have dead spots where water sits. Again, could return to great form but needs work on both the maintenance side and management side.
Rackham G.C.
This is a good urban course. It has a nice friendly wide open layout. There are few bunkers or hazards, which makes this a great course for learning. It does offer it's challenges however, as there are dog legs and hilld to deal with, but you propbablt won't lose a ball.
Tough rough
Very well maintained public course! New cart valet was very nice surprise! Rough will swallow balls if you don't have good reference points to guide you to the ball.
Okay for the money
Played today, second time this year. This time the course was in extremely rough shape. Many and large areas roped off as under repair. More shades of brown than green. This was always a must play, now a must wonder. Started to tee off and a worker 25 feet be hide me started the grass edger, so I waited until he was finished. :(
Awful
Pace of play was horrendous and the staff did nothing about it.
Weekend play
Weekend play is a joke at this course.
The starter is very inept and confused.
They need a ranger to police the course and move play along.
Will never play here on the weekend again.
This is not a $45 course!
Fairways were in terrible shape.
Decent course for the money.
Good value for the money. Definitely not a premium course, but challenging with good greens. Pace of play is good early but gets slow after 9am. The course lets people off the back which really slows things down. That would be the biggest downside - need to do a better job of helping things play faster.
Good value good course
This course is an all around good course. The par threes are monstrous. Not very hard but if you don't hit the ball straight it will punish you. There no drinks or cart service which is a bit of a bummer. But it is a fun challenging course
Through discounts only
Firstly, I would NEVER pay full price. Course could be great if more was done it terms of upkeep. Being an old course with a great designer, this place has tons of potential. Greens rolled nicely and were kept up best out of all other areas which is most important. However, besides pace of play, the conditions could be improved drastically. From tee boxes, to fairways, to rough, all could be improved. Spend money (ownership) and this place can be a gem again!!
6 hours for what?
Almost a 6 hour round. Course was in bad shape compared to years past.
It was cold but fun
It was a very brisk April day, but it didn't deter anyone from heading out to one of Detroits most famous courses. It was great. The greens are tricky but exciting.
Needs work
I played this course alot last year and it was in better shape. They have raised the prices and the up keep is not good this year. Greens needed cutting many fairways were in poor shape and the bunkers are not well kept as seems to be the norm and most course in the past few years. Weather might have cause the fairway problem. Too many dandelion and the rough needed to be cut. My opinion was better last year.
Good deal
I got a good golfnow price. The course had several areas of ground under repair. The greens were in good shape and we're running at a nice pace. Pace of play was slow. Make sure you have about 5 hours to play. Not sure if it's like that all the time. Overall an average course where you can find a good deal.
Such an underrated course!
Very well groomed course with a great feel to it. It's a much longer course than I'm used to which was actually a refreshing change. Despite the higher degree of difficulty (especially the par 3's) I loved the layout of the course!!! The worst thing about the course is the price, yesterday was the first time I've been able to find a real nice deal there. The greens felt great, every hole made sense...I definitely recommend Rachham, be ready to swing more long irons and fairway woods than usual!!!
surprisingly bad
I haven't played this course in many yrs. (10+). It has really gone down hill from what I can remember. The fairways had many brown spots and were bare and very wet. The drainage there is very poor. The greens were some of the worst I've played on, very bumpy. I would never pay full price to play there. Thank goodness it was only 18 dollars on golfnow.
Good for fall rates
The only problem are the bathroom conditions, reminded of when we traveled in Mexico!
