Firstly, I would NEVER pay full price. Course could be great if more was done it terms of upkeep. Being an old course with a great designer, this place has tons of potential. Greens rolled nicely and were kept up best out of all other areas which is most important. However, besides pace of play, the conditions could be improved drastically. From tee boxes, to fairways, to rough, all could be improved. Spend money (ownership) and this place can be a gem again!!
6 hours for what?
Almost a 6 hour round. Course was in bad shape compared to years past.
It was cold but fun
It was a very brisk April day, but it didn't deter anyone from heading out to one of Detroits most famous courses. It was great. The greens are tricky but exciting.
Needs work
I played this course alot last year and it was in better shape. They have raised the prices and the up keep is not good this year. Greens needed cutting many fairways were in poor shape and the bunkers are not well kept as seems to be the norm and most course in the past few years. Weather might have cause the fairway problem. Too many dandelion and the rough needed to be cut. My opinion was better last year.
Good deal
I got a good golfnow price. The course had several areas of ground under repair. The greens were in good shape and we're running at a nice pace. Pace of play was slow. Make sure you have about 5 hours to play. Not sure if it's like that all the time. Overall an average course where you can find a good deal.
Such an underrated course!
Very well groomed course with a great feel to it. It's a much longer course than I'm used to which was actually a refreshing change. Despite the higher degree of difficulty (especially the par 3's) I loved the layout of the course!!! The worst thing about the course is the price, yesterday was the first time I've been able to find a real nice deal there. The greens felt great, every hole made sense...I definitely recommend Rachham, be ready to swing more long irons and fairway woods than usual!!!
surprisingly bad
I haven't played this course in many yrs. (10+). It has really gone down hill from what I can remember. The fairways had many brown spots and were bare and very wet. The drainage there is very poor. The greens were some of the worst I've played on, very bumpy. I would never pay full price to play there. Thank goodness it was only 18 dollars on golfnow.
Good for fall rates
The only problem are the bathroom conditions, reminded of when we traveled in Mexico!
Great place
Nice course. Nice day. Had a great time. You should play here.
Great Course old facilities
Rackham is open and flat but is challenging nonetheless. Facilities are old and not many amenities. Rate of play is good.
Great course for the right price
Being from the Royal Oak area, I've played this course countless times. It has a very good overall set-up and is located very conveniently if you don't want to dive 45 minutes for a more scenic course.
It has a nice open set-up and is forgiving to any player who has a tendency to slice or hook off the tee from time to time. They keep it in good shape, although I did notice that the fairways had some issues during this latest round.
It's a great course for $35-40 dollars, but I wouldn't pay more than that unless I was in a pinch.
Great Public course
Love the clubhouse, beautiful course! Nice city course, but a little expensive. Course food, No alcohol.
Nice course, but always overbooked.
This is the closest course to my house. I play here 5-6 times a year. The course is in decent shape. The greens are very challenging. My only problem is that lately it seems the course is always overbooked. My last 3 outings here we couldn't get close to playing 18 holes in 4 1/2 hours. Always 1-2 groups ahead of us waiting on every hole. If you have about 6 hours to kill and don't mind waiting have at it...Otherwise it's just an exercise in frustration.
No water hazards but lots of standing water.
Happened to play an early morning round after a deluge the night before. Beautiful treasure hidden by the Detroit zoo, too bad the water was everywhere. Good layout, a couple of shorter par fours challenging a big hitter to go for it, lotsa fun from the back tees. Superb greens, awesome clubhouse. I look forward to playing again when its dried out a bit.
great course
Booked on golfnow for $22. Course in excellent shape. 3 1/3 hours to play 18. No backlogs. Greta deal and a beautiful Donald Ross course. Requires skill and straight shots. We'll be back.
Not worth the time
Course was not in good shape at all. When putting on the greens your ball may run into some weeds or other things growing from no where. 2 of us played and it took 5 hours. We played other courses together and finished in 3 hours for 18 holes. 3 different groups in front of us had 5 players and we seen other groups on the course with 5. We only paid 25 bucks cause of an online deal. I would never pay 49 to play at this course. I wont be going back anytime soon.
challenging and fun
This course is fun and provides enough of a challenge to keep you on your toes. LONG par 3's and 4's. And set-up's that reward good shots and still give you a chance at par on mis hit drives. Lower prices through this site is a double bonus.
OK course, no water (fine by me)
The only way I'd play this course is from golfnow. $49 regular rate weekends is outrageous and def not worth it. Pace can be a little slow and rangers are pretty much non-existent.
Great value
Course in good shape... Less than 4 hours to play, what a bonus !!!!
Great layout
Course is in good shape, fairways were nice, bunkers were not raked but if you scratch the sand you're alright. The placement of the pins on this course is just unfair. Sprinkler heads can be found on some greens but they are in good condition.
Pace of play was under 3 hours for 18 (if youre early enough) Always seem to be singles waiting for a group on the 1st tee.
Don't hook your tee shot in 15 or you'll end up in the Giraffe Paddock at the Zoo!
