Fun and challenging course. Very narrow, with tall trees lining the small fairways. You have to hit it straight or you will be in trouble. Small greens, which make it difficult. A fun course.
Best public course in KC
I play about fifteen public courses in KC area yearly and this is the best. It's a drive, I takes me fifty minutes to get there, but it's worth it. I frequently get $20 tee times with cart midweek at 2 pm. I'll leave my house at 1230 , hit a bucket, play eighteen alone, at whatever pace I choose, and be home by 530. Great greens; fast but flat without cheap roll up areas, tough rough, rewards good shots, penalizes bad ones without stealing your golf balls too often. It seems to take luck out of the equation more than most courses .Play this course.
The course is playeable for all sorts of golfers
My son and I drove out to Shirkey's in Richmond, MO. from KC. It was well worth the drive and cost of golf. The couse was in great condition and the pace of place was super.
Great course
I can play red white or yellow tees and enjoy this course. It is a fun layout with some water hazards to make it a challenge as well as elevation changes. It is worth the trip if you have never played it and not usually crowded. A hidden gem.
A must play
I have found that I always enjoy my rounds at Shirkey. I have played all but the tips and although I am not a long hitter I can play and enjoy from red to yellow tee boxes. Really fun layout and some nice water holes. If you have never played this course you should you won't regret it worth the trip.

Great course. Driving range needs some work. practice putting green in great condition.
Great value and all around course
The weather wasn't the greatest but the course still played well. The greens and fairways were in excellent condition and the course overall was well maintained. I wouldn't say Shirkey is the most challenging of courses, but it does require you to make some shots. Shirkey is a nice, established course that I will definitely play again.
Greens were in great shape nice to putt on
The coarse was in good shape. Easy access to everything the staff was very friendly and helpful. It's a nice coarse for the average player to play. And very affordable. It was a good time
Round at Shirkey
Picked this course because it was situated between Kansas City and Columbia, Missouri. Met my son, a student at Univ of Mo, for a round. Locaiton worked for us. Discounted price was good. Staff was friendly and helpful. Course was in good shape.
About 35 miles from Kansas City, so a bit of a drive, but a nice course overall.

great course, good greens, keep ball in fairway or deal with mature trees, no cheap shots here
