Green Knoll Golf Course
About
Green Knoll Golf Course in Bridgewater Township has a varied terrain that provides a unique character to the course. The course sprawls across gently rolling hills dappled with mature trees. Much of the course's challenges are a result of the tricky contours. Some of the elevation changes are dramatic but there are also some subtle ones, which can be just as tricky. Further accuracy is required to maneuver the tight fairways. There are definitely challenges in store throughout but overall the golf course's playability appeals to all skill levels, from novices to avid golfers. It measures a manageable 6,443 yards from the back tees. In addition to the 18-hole course, there is also a nine-hole pitch-and-putt course. Green Knoll is one of five golf courses operated by the Somerset County Park Commission.

Nice & Easy
All of Somerset County Courses have the unfortunate distinction of living in the shadow of their big brother Neshanic Valley.
Green Knoll is a nice course, but not nearly of the same caliber as Neshanic. The tee boxes, fairways and rough are all in very nice shape and despite a lot of rain the night before, the course was still 90 degree for Carts.
The greens were all in great shape and receptive to approach shots, but they were shaggy and SLOW. My understanding from a local we were playing with, is that the greens are always slow.
All in all, the course is short and pretty easy, but the day I played there were very high winds, which at least made it a challenge. There are also several holes that force you to layup making the some of the holes play longer than they actually are. If you are the type of golfer that likes hitting 3 wood off the tee, this is the right place for you.
The practice area is nice and there is a fun little chip and putt on the premise, but the men's room and food options leave a little something to be desired. I also found it a bit ridiculous that the food is cash only and that there are no water coolers on the course, only coolers with bottled water and an honor system with a coffee can that says "bottled water $1." Just knowing that Neshanic is also a county course in the same county, makes it all feel a little tacky.
But for higher handicap golfers, this is a good place to practice and get better.
Green Knoll improves every year!
Open course, not a lot trouble to get into, but it will challenge you if you don't pick your landing zones. I see they've left a lot of areas that are out of play unmowed. I believe it makes the course more eye pleasing as well as define the holes. Its a 4 -1/2 or more hour round, no getting around that. The Friday I played was 90% walkers. If I was a Somerset County resident, I'd play here often. Out of county price $ is too steep for this course to play more than once in awhile.
Grwat courae
Nice we'll kept course. Good for beginners or intermediate players
Wonderful Old Style Public Course
My wife and I always have a great day at Green Knoll. The staff is super friendly, and the course is a great example of old style open course.
Back to my ROOTS
Try to play Green Knoll once a year to renew memories of my early days of playing golf. Now some 40yrs. later, the course is better than I remembered as a kid. The whole experience was fun & enjoyed it with great friends, who are in the golf business.
As a former player at local Bridgewater West HS, right across the street, we recalled our past good & bad rounds at Green Knoll.
All in all we had a fine round on a decent track which has gotten better over the years. We were actually asked to SLOW down we were playing TOO fast, only because they sent two 4 somes off the 10th hole before we got to #9 green. So we played #11 & 12 over again to SLOW down with NO one behind us
Nice Course - But not the best
This was a good wide open course. I enjoyed the round, the pace was great but I probably wouldn't go back. The reason is it's a 30-35 minute drive, where I could find better closer. If I lived closer sure I probably would go back but I don't. So it was a good experience, the fairways are wide open and in decent shape.
Was pleasantly surprised
Overall I was impressed with the layout and the way the course played. The #1 handicap hole was certainly deserving of its designation. Playing from the back tees made the course play a lot more difficult.
Slow at desk. Good course.
Worth the money. Well kept. Show up twenty minutes early because the staff and computers are painfully slow when checking in and paying.
Great muni with a decent layout and nice staff
Conditions: Overall - 10
Fairways - 10 - Nice height and good condition.
Greens - 9 - Pretty good conditions on the greens, not overly fast but rolled true.
Bunkers - 7 - Not raked and had lots of footprints and animal tracks. Could use a bit more sand and less hardpan.
Rough -10 - good height, no complaints or bald spots
Overall the course was kinda on the shorter side but still really fun. Had a lot more elevation change that I expected which was a nice change of pace. Had a few really nice holes on the front with some challenges and water to make you think a little.
Stress free course
Not a lot of trees, hard to lose your ball, very open. Definitely a course that can help you improve your game without losing 10+ balls.
nice view and nice maitained
I like Green Knoll course very much. It is challenging.
Great for beginners and intermediate players
Green Knoll is one of my favorite courses. It is a good value, the staff is very friendly and the course is maintained very well. The fairways are wide open, which is good for beginner's, however, there are some hills and twists and turns that make it challenging at times. Overall a very good value, I always enjoy my time here.
great course for a change
good greens and fairways but watch out for the tall thick rough!
Best golf for the money that I have found in NJ.
Well worth the time and money. Greens were in great shape, except for the ball marks that people always forget to fix. Good length and change of elevation. Traps could use a little more sand and TLC.
average course, bad value
This course has pretty high fairway grass, bumpy greens, and very high rough. Its tough to post a decent score when you can't find your ball even in the second cut. Aside from the condition, there are a couple nicer holes. There are no water jugs for hot summer days. They put out 2 coolers; 1 on #6 and 1 on #16. They charge $1 for a water... so you can't even get water on the course = ridiculous. Lastly, for non-registered members the cost is absurdly high, even for twilight, and that's without a cart. This course is fine if you've never played it just to play something new and different, but after that, it's just another low-end, overpriced Somerset county course. Hunterdon county courses are much nicer.
Good course, SLOW PLAYERS
The course it self is a good course, good mix of hills, valleys and side slopes. A couple water hazards and blind shots. Pretty large generous fairways on most holes. So, pretty much an all around mix of a course that should offer just about everything for everybody.
The one thing this place doesn't seem to offer is a pace of play marshal. I've played here four times in the past 2 months and it's been agony. There's one point on the 13th green, you can see 14 (par 3), 15 (par 4), 16 (par 4) and 17 (par 4) and all four times I've played, at that point I can see two groups backed up ahead of us and waiting on the 3rd group ahead (on the 15th tee) and NOBODY on the par-4 16th or 17th. That's how much behind the group was, with another foursome waiting right next to their tee box, another group on the 14th green behind them and us waiting to tee off on 14th, another group behind already on 13th green and another in the fairway waiting to hit to the 13th green.
I play all the Somerset County courses as I'm a resident (I use GolfNow when out-of-town friends are with me to cut cost), I wouldn't play here on a weekend or afternoons, if you want to play here, do it during the week and early.
Nice course at a decent price
Course was well run and in good shape. They also have a pitch and putt course.
Very good county course
Play the course with a friend here. Course is well maintained. Playing pace is good. It would be nice if scorecard could show the layout of each hole.
Good value, fair challenge and well-maintained
Second time playing this course which is open, fair and well-maintained. Good variety of holes - some with water, some with elevation changes - plenty of rough to avoid too. Length is good for most players too. Friendly staff and definitely a return is justified.
Generally Simple, Well-Maintained Track
Have played here many times and am never disappointed. This isn't the most challenging course you will ever play, but it is a fun one, and generally well-maintained...Good value for the money, if you can grab it here..
