Green Knoll Golf Course
About
Green Knoll Golf Course in Bridgewater Township has a varied terrain that provides a unique character to the course. The course sprawls across gently rolling hills dappled with mature trees. Much of the course's challenges are a result of the tricky contours. Some of the elevation changes are dramatic but there are also some subtle ones, which can be just as tricky. Further accuracy is required to maneuver the tight fairways. There are definitely challenges in store throughout but overall the golf course's playability appeals to all skill levels, from novices to avid golfers. It measures a manageable 6,443 yards from the back tees. In addition to the 18-hole course, there is also a nine-hole pitch-and-putt course. Green Knoll is one of five golf courses operated by the Somerset County Park Commission.

Windy Day made it tough
This is a very nice course to play because it is pretty wide open and forgiving. However when it's windy that wide open play means really strong gusts all over. Also the greens had not yet recovered from being airated so putting was tough. No girl at the snack bar which meant only snacks at check in. So it was slowwwww going. But I had a nice relaxing round. and shot ok in the early season.
Best for all year play.
The only thing wrong with the course was that the greens seemed to be aerated a few weeks ago and haven't grown back. Minimum goose droppings. Great fairways.
Nice course
Caught it on a week day with less crowd, nicely maintained course, greens were aerated but overall nice to play and would be a challenging course with the slopes on most fairways
Solid Course
Not too hefty of a price for some quality holes. Course and greens were in pretty good condition. Only negative was lack of signage. On a couple of occasions, almost played the wrong hole. On a positive note, deer are friendly and seemingly part of the course.
Good stuff
the only complaint I have is that they want you to pay 1$ for a water bottle at certain holes....bring your own water, otherwise the layout of the course is wondeeful, the greens are challenging and fun.
Great Layout
The course has significant contours compared to others in NJ. The conditions were exceptional and the greens true.
Great Course
This is my nemesis course. The front 9 can be brutal. Survive it and the back 9 will be a lot easier.
Nice round
I'm a beginner and there were some challenges on this course which were enjoyable overall very good course
very nice course to play especially for beginners players
Green knoll course is a very nice course to play at for a public course. The staff is extremely friendly and course is very well maintained.
wide open course, but greens were very slow and not rolled
Course is a fairly easy course. Only a couple of holes can be a bit of a challenge on the approach. Round was very slow though and greens were bumpy and slow. All in all, it would return if conditions improved.
Green Knoll
I thought the course was on the easy side. Wide open fairways, greens were a little slow but in good shape, the traps were not the best but the tee boxes were good. For a municipal course I thought it was in good shape and a good value
Worth to try.
This golf course seems very flat and eazy, however so many holes needs challenging such us water hazards and bushs.Working saffs are very kind.
Fun track
Course was in good shape, greens rolled true. Not a very challenging front 9 but back kept things interesting. Not sure why this is course is known for narrow fairways? seemed fairly wide-open to me and adjacent fairways made errant tee shots playable. No rangers keeping tabs on slow play so pace is a roll of the dice; Some times you win, some times you lose. Great day of golf for the price.
A pleasant surprise
As a single I found this course on a Hot Deal the day of. I wasn't expecting much, but the course was actually in very nice condition. the rough was thick enough to punish you for missing the relatively wide fairways. Players face a large number of downhill lies and surprisingly few uphill ones to counter it. My only two complaints would be that: 1) The course did not have water jugs on the course 2) There was no ranger out on the course keeping pace moving. A pair of couples were causing a log jam infront of us and didn't have the decency to let us play through. We ended up skipping a hole to pass them and the round got much better from there.
Green Knoll - A good value/friendly staff
Green Knoll is a relatively open and flat course with a few tight holes. The fairways, tee boxes and greens were is good condition.
While we road in carts, the couse definately looks walkable.
Three pluses:
1. A good value for the money
2. Friendly staff
3. Good overall layout with some memorable holes.
Areas of improvement:
1. A little slow on the pace of play. We finshed our round in just less the 5 hours but not too bad for a Saturday.
2. Some of the sand traps could use some sand
3. Greens were a little slow (but not too bad)
BuGS!
Course was not too hilly, but the greens were. Not too crowded on a Wednesday, so fast pace of play. It was 90 degrees, so many bugs that distracted from swing. Make sure to bring bug spray! Friendly starter provided free water & ice due to heat. I would play here again, when it's not too hot.
Nice Find
Pleasantly surprised at some of the twist and turns in this course. Very wide open and hilly. The elevated greens are a good challenge and some strategic thinking on certain holes. Overall I would recommend.
Nice & Easy
All of Somerset County Courses have the unfortunate distinction of living in the shadow of their big brother Neshanic Valley.
Green Knoll is a nice course, but not nearly of the same caliber as Neshanic. The tee boxes, fairways and rough are all in very nice shape and despite a lot of rain the night before, the course was still 90 degree for Carts.
The greens were all in great shape and receptive to approach shots, but they were shaggy and SLOW. My understanding from a local we were playing with, is that the greens are always slow.
All in all, the course is short and pretty easy, but the day I played there were very high winds, which at least made it a challenge. There are also several holes that force you to layup making the some of the holes play longer than they actually are. If you are the type of golfer that likes hitting 3 wood off the tee, this is the right place for you.
The practice area is nice and there is a fun little chip and putt on the premise, but the men's room and food options leave a little something to be desired. I also found it a bit ridiculous that the food is cash only and that there are no water coolers on the course, only coolers with bottled water and an honor system with a coffee can that says "bottled water $1." Just knowing that Neshanic is also a county course in the same county, makes it all feel a little tacky.
But for higher handicap golfers, this is a good place to practice and get better.
Green Knoll improves every year!
Open course, not a lot trouble to get into, but it will challenge you if you don't pick your landing zones. I see they've left a lot of areas that are out of play unmowed. I believe it makes the course more eye pleasing as well as define the holes. Its a 4 -1/2 or more hour round, no getting around that. The Friday I played was 90% walkers. If I was a Somerset County resident, I'd play here often. Out of county price $ is too steep for this course to play more than once in awhile.
