About
Green Knoll Golf Course in Bridgewater Township has a varied terrain that provides a unique character to the course. The course sprawls across gently rolling hills dappled with mature trees. Much of the course's challenges are a result of the tricky contours. Some of the elevation changes are dramatic but there are also some subtle ones, which can be just as tricky. Further accuracy is required to maneuver the tight fairways. There are definitely challenges in store throughout but overall the golf course's playability appeals to all skill levels, from novices to avid golfers. It measures a manageable 6,443 yards from the back tees. In addition to the 18-hole course, there is also a nine-hole pitch-and-putt course. Green Knoll is one of five golf courses operated by the Somerset County Park Commission.

average course, bad value
This course has pretty high fairway grass, bumpy greens, and very high rough. Its tough to post a decent score when you can't find your ball even in the second cut. Aside from the condition, there are a couple nicer holes. There are no water jugs for hot summer days. They put out 2 coolers; 1 on #6 and 1 on #16. They charge $1 for a water... so you can't even get water on the course = ridiculous. Lastly, for non-registered members the cost is absurdly high, even for twilight, and that's without a cart. This course is fine if you've never played it just to play something new and different, but after that, it's just another low-end, overpriced Somerset county course. Hunterdon county courses are much nicer.
Good course, SLOW PLAYERS
The course it self is a good course, good mix of hills, valleys and side slopes. A couple water hazards and blind shots. Pretty large generous fairways on most holes. So, pretty much an all around mix of a course that should offer just about everything for everybody.
The one thing this place doesn't seem to offer is a pace of play marshal. I've played here four times in the past 2 months and it's been agony. There's one point on the 13th green, you can see 14 (par 3), 15 (par 4), 16 (par 4) and 17 (par 4) and all four times I've played, at that point I can see two groups backed up ahead of us and waiting on the 3rd group ahead (on the 15th tee) and NOBODY on the par-4 16th or 17th. That's how much behind the group was, with another foursome waiting right next to their tee box, another group on the 14th green behind them and us waiting to tee off on 14th, another group behind already on 13th green and another in the fairway waiting to hit to the 13th green.
I play all the Somerset County courses as I'm a resident (I use GolfNow when out-of-town friends are with me to cut cost), I wouldn't play here on a weekend or afternoons, if you want to play here, do it during the week and early.
Nice course at a decent price
Course was well run and in good shape. They also have a pitch and putt course.
Very good county course
Play the course with a friend here. Course is well maintained. Playing pace is good. It would be nice if scorecard could show the layout of each hole.
Good value, fair challenge and well-maintained
Second time playing this course which is open, fair and well-maintained. Good variety of holes - some with water, some with elevation changes - plenty of rough to avoid too. Length is good for most players too. Friendly staff and definitely a return is justified.
Generally Simple, Well-Maintained Track
Have played here many times and am never disappointed. This isn't the most challenging course you will ever play, but it is a fun one, and generally well-maintained...Good value for the money, if you can grab it here..
Great course! Would play again and recommend anyone to play there without question!
I had a great time at the course. It was well marked for the distances and very friendly. It was challenging for a high handicap player like me, this what made it great!
Well maintained year after year
Very friendly staff. Conditions are consistently good. You can find and play your ball when you get in the trees. A good course if you'd like to work on your driving since you have more room to find and recover a bad drive.
Challenging Course
Course in great condition and challenging. Great friendly staff. Played during the week should have finished under 4 hrs but got behind slow 4some on the back nine. But enjoyed a beautiful day for golf so didnt mind so much.
Nice County Course
Fun course. Wide open. Good Condition. Nice Staff.
Great Sunday Play
Made reservations through Golf Now, saved about $10. each on a foursome. Starter got us out a bit early, play was paced well, conditions were above average, and staff helpful when needed.
A good value day for a nice round of golf.
Average Muni Track
Played Green Knoll shortly after green aeration, so the condition may pick up some as the greens heal- $50 with cart is no bargain this time of year, considering the course has yet to settle in for the season. Pace of play was slow, but not maddeningly so, but much here can also be attributed to the time of year as the fescue grass has not started to fill in, so stray shots were easy to find. As for the layout, there a few interesting holes (5, 6 and 8 on the front, 11, 14 and 18 coming home provide both challenge and options). The four par 3s are monotonous- all about the same length, same bunkering, similar green shapes and slopes- only the wind made for different clubs to be hit into each...and 3 par 4s on the front (2, 4 and 9) also gave a distinct feeling of deja vu.
Needs attention
Course is in need of some attention. Greens are extremley rough due to aeration. Tee times need to be adjusted, too many golfers for a smooth round of golf, we were delayed at every tee with no sign of rangers anywhere.
Cold and wet
Played 3/20/13. Rain and snow two previous days. Cart path only..course very wet...never played this course before..6 handicap..frequent player...enjoyed the layout..greens were feeling the weather at apron. 40degrees..friendly staff in the clubhouse and the guys working on spring cleanup all around the course...and I got a hot deal...value for sure...
Course Condition
Obviously at this time of year condition of any course can be suspect. I found the course to be rather open with well trapped and protected greens. There were some water hazzards but easy to avoid unless you miss hit a shot. The downside to this particular round was the condition of the greens. They had been aerated sometime before but were very bumpy and difficult to read and I ended up with a few 3 putts. Overall it was a good experience with a very friendly staff and folks on the course with good golf etiquette. I recommend the course and plan to play it in season.
Nice challenging course.
Challenging course. Fairways and greens well maintained. Great value. $44 with cart. Staff was very friendly, Arrived early and went out early. Have played there several times now and will continue to play this course. One of 5 very nice Somerset county courses
Really enjoyed playing course.
Course presented some challenges but not to be too difficult for hackers such as myself.
