Old Orchard Country Club
About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2025.
Opened in 1929, Old Orchard Country Club has a classic design with challenges that stand up to modern golf courses. Throughout the course, you'll see traces of the site's former use as a farm. Ancient apple trees from the original orchard frame many of the holes. The diverse layout will test you with a variety of different shots but the gently rolling terrain makes for an easy walk. Skill and strategy will be generously rewarded but it's not an overly punishing layout for the high handicapper. Old Orchard's greens play true and fast and they are often flanked with strategically positioned bunkers. A stream wanders through the golf course, coming into play on several holes. Golfers will face a tricky island green on the par-5 seventh hole as well as an almost-island green on the par-4 13th.

Was once a beautiful course is not that now
In every regard the course needed bunkers were mounted with sand not even spread out . The area just off the fairways were horrible with no evidence of any future upgrades.
Getting There
They need to work on some type of cart path. The good news is they are putting sand in the bunkers. Pace is slow but it has always been slow there. They should try 10 minute tee times
Keep working on the bunkers...
The bunkers need work. If I had to guess the bunkers were not raked or groomed prior to the first round of the day. This results in people not bothering to rake because you don't know where to start. Those of us who did rake we challenged because bunker rakes are mostly broken. A few bunkers had newer rakes in good shape. It looks like they are trying to restore the bunkers because some have new sand in them and others appear to have the drainage exposed waiting for new sand. Overall the course conditions were better than I remember and the staff was friendly. No cart person or places to buy water or snacks besides the office at this time.
Fun course to play
This course has a relaxed atmosphere and good layout that makes for an enjoyable round of golf. Generous fairways allow for slightly errant tee shots. The greens, although recently aerated still rolled well and are in good condition considering the time of year and recent weather in the area. Definitely recommend a round here.
Course
The course is laid out well. It is challenging and allows you to use all your clubs.
Spring is here
First nice weather in some time, great to play at old orchards. Generally course was “ok,” which is to say it was in good shape considering all the bad weather. Still using fall setup, but still fun. Greens growing in nicely, fairways mowed and tee boxes neat. Many trees and scrubs have been cleared really improving playability. More forgiving. Looking forward to more rounds at Old Orchard.
Best Easter Afternoon
Winter is fighting us good day to play a round
Snow tomorrow
Great old world layout
Just not very good condition green were great but the rest i’d Pass
ISLAND GREEN IN NJ
7th hole is a small island green. nice little par 5. doesnt scare you with a wedge in your hand but a fun hole. good layout with a nice mix of holes. curious to see how the course is in season with conditioning,
Good bang for your buck
it's a nice course. beat up a lil at times depending on your standards, some people expect too much. its in good shape, great layout, amazing price. id recommend it to anyone who lives within a half hour. they are really nice people who have a really nice course. a lot of people love it so pace of play can be tough at times.
Nice day just to get out and play
Nice day just to get out and play
We have had a long winter and more snow is due Sunday
Initialround
Course condition not bad for 2/14. Course a little soggy due to rain. Course mowed well, greens ok and fairways fine. Bunkers need to be raked. Patrons need to be reminded they should fix ball marks on greens.
It's a Tillinghast
I have a thing for Tillinghast courses. I've played a bunch and find the experience enjoyable at all of them. Old Orchard is NOT one of his famous designs, but it's a sporty layout, with more than a few interesting holes.
It's got a little bit of everything, including an island green.
I play here a couple of times a year, the rates are reasonable, the pace of play is good, and getting a tee time easy.
Don't expect country club conditions or lots of amenities, it's a tee it up and play kinda place, low key and enjoyable.
