Farmstead Golf & Country Club - Valleyview/Lakeview Course
About
The Valleyview nine is the most difficult course at the 27-hole Farmstead Golf & Country Club, which is located in northwest New Jersey approximately one hour from New York City. Small greens, tree-lined fairways, hilly terrain and out of bounds on seven of nine holes are among the reasons the Valleyview nine is a test. The Byron Phoebus design opened in 1979.

Beautiful course paired with friendly staff
Farmstead is a beautiful and very well maintained course. The pond and rolling hills provide an amazing backdrop for a round of 18. The staff is very helpful and genuine. I am looking forward to playing at Farmstead again in the near future.
the course is in very good cond.
you must play this course a few times because of blind shots on some holes
excellent in every aspect
outstanding condition, excellent greens, waitress at the bar (Cara)
extremely friendly & efficient. I was skeptical when she that everything on the menu was outstanding, but we had a few appetizers & many of the entrees & each one was better than the one before. No disappointments.
LAKEVIEW HAS SOME CHALLINGING HOLES FROM THE BLUE TEES
HAD A 10:01 TEE TIME STARTER DID NOT GET US OUT UNTIL 10:40 VERY DISAPOINTING TO HAVE A TIME AND NOT GIVEN AN EXPLANATON WHY THE DELAY.COULD NOT FINISH ROUND DUE TO PREVIOUS TIME COMMITMENTS AND PACE OF PLAY
Great course at any price
My wife and I are big fans of this course. We're relatively new to golf and this course offers a great combination of forgiveness and challenge. The fairways, rough and greens were all in great condition. I could play this course every week and always leave satisfied.
Also, the bar and grille was great for a pre-round bite and drink to ease the first tee jitters.
Always a great time
I've played Farmstead numerous times and it never disappoints. The greens are always well kept, fairways mowed, the rough is never too rough, and it is always a nice round. I can usually get the round for under $30 so the value is also worth the drive. If you haven't played it yet, I would recommend that you do.
I'll be back
Pace of play left much to be desired as we had to wait on almost every hole. Course is in excellent condition with the exception of the bunkers which were inconsistent. Only thing that was missing is a driving a range to loosen up before the round. Course offers good value for those that play public golf.
course is in great shape as always
Love playing here, fairways and greens in good condition. Early tee time can play in just under 4 hrs
HIGHLY MAINTAINED GOLF COURSE
A very beautiful golf course. Meticulously maintained. You will seldom see fairways that are as evenly and cleanly mowed as these. The greens are outstanding.
Good Course, Poor Start Time Management...
Played this past Sunday (6/9/13). Course was in good shape given the heavy rains just a few days before - played lakeview/clubview for 18. My biggest issue was the start time. I had booked a 10:28a (checked in at 10am), but didn't get out on the course until about 11:10a. Not sure if they overbooked the course or the general skill-level of the four-somes that day were challenging for the management, but it was frustrating. To make matters worse, we waited at nearly every tee-box for at least 5-10 minutes. Actual playing time was 4:45, it could have been much quicker - we are used to playing 3:45/4:00 rounds. We played with two other guys who play here quite regularly who said it is never like this. Would give the course a second shot based on that feedback, but hesitant as it is over an hour drive.
After two days of rain COURSE IN TOP SHAPE
Expected sloppy conditions due to the previous two days of rain. Found that the greens were is top shape along with the rest of the course. This is a top five public course in NJ, worth the distance in travel every time.
Pretty basic northern Jersey course.
Played on a Saturday around noon. The course is in decent but not great shape. It has 3 nines. We played Lake/Club. It has a few challenging holes on the front where you have to be careful of how far you hit off the tee but then is fairly open for the rest. There are several short holes that you can try to get close to and score but you need to be aware of several creeks and ponds that are sometimes not visible from the tees. Pace of play pretty good for a public coarse on a Saturday.
Great layout! Great course! Great staff!
I joined a twosome for this outing and the weather was just perfect. The course conditions were excellent and the pace of play was just fine. The greens were in top shape though difficult to read from early morning to the late morning as they began to dry and become a bit firmer. I played Club to Lake on a previous outing and played Club to Valley for this outing. I was surprised at how challenging the Valley 9 was despite comments from others I encountered at the course. The staff was most cordial and I appreciated the focused coordination the starter exhibited to keep golfers timed for their tee offs. Overall I enjoyed another great experience at this hidden treasure in Lafayette, NJ. I look forward to my next opportunity.
Keep coming back
I have played this course several times over the last year and I enjoy playing it everytime. Always in great condition, challenging but not so much that it is disenchanting, and everybody is really friendly and courteous. Compared to the rest of the courses in the area, it is a great price for the experience.
Course is difficult enough to be challenging but forgiving enough to be fun.
They need to space out the tee times a little more on weekends. We had to wait at almost every tee box. There are no rangers on the course to enforce the pace of play.
this course offers a good challange
there are great challanges such as water holes tough greens nice tree lined fairways, some straight shots ,90 degree angles,,,long greens,,,small greens,,,all at a reasonable price
Magnificent Course
I played Lake to Club, and was so impressed with the course. This is a beautiful place, so well groomed and taken care of. This was 40 minute ride for me to get there, and I absolutely can't wait to get back there again. Very playable course. Some of the par 5's are long, but certainly can make par on them. Not too many hills to work with. Loved everything about this course. Looking forward to returning again sometime soon. I'd recommend this course to anyone looking to play.
Course is in pristine condition.
While most local courses are showing many sign of last years stroms (debris, leaves, downed trees) Farmstead is in great shape. Tee boxes, fairways (rough too) and greens are in great shape!
course is beautiful and very well maintained
great course. beautiful and staff fantastic. good location and great facilities
Decent track, but lacks variety
Maintained pretty well and the greens were rolling well for this time of year, but they weren't holding anything. Playing from the Blues (tips), they have a few tee shots with overhanging trees that are a bit unfair and maybe just lazy course management. Overall though, it's a good experience, but it's too bad they won't let you walk before 2 on a very walkable course.
