Good but slow play will be its demise
I looked forward to Knob Hill as it is a semi-private club. I expected the course conditions to be spot on but also a higher level of golf etiquette. First, the course is a par 70 and is a fun round of golf. The layout is unique and a different type of experience than the local munis in the Princeton area, which I live around.
I wanted to like my experience a lot... but the pace of play was horrible. People simply are not playing ready golf and are taking too long between shots and on the green. The worse part was that there weren't many rangers at all around to monitor pace of play. The last 2 reviews also spoke of the very slow pace of play. I wanted to give it a shot and now regretted it. I probably will not come back for awhile. Especially with the long summer days/nights, most people who come out will be hackers.
I don't know if members of the club experience the same level of slow play. I doubt it. But as a public player, I would highly recommend that you do not play here until this is rectified. As a FYI - I played this course to see if it would be worth joining as a member. Sadly it is not.
Slow play
Waiting & being pushed on every shot. Not a comfortable round.
Very nice course!
The day was perfect except the pace of play. Never seen people take so long, especially when on the green! Otherwise it was a class place!

I wouldn't
I would never play this course again. Rude, unsanitary and should probably get looked at. Could pay the same and have a lot better
Hidden Gem !!
Great golf course with beautiful views and layout ! Fast, undulating greens - plenty of water - great challenge for a shorter course ! Can't wait to play again

Excellent
Best course with best staff in all of central Jersey.

Fun Layout
Not too long (I like this) with some fun holes
Favorites were #7, short par 5, with water off the tee and again in front of the green. #8, par 4, dogleg right with a pond fronting the green. Why do courses aerate during the winter? Grass doesn't grow and it remains like that much longer. Probably won't recover till mid-May. The greens were also covered with pebbles from the sanding. Hit and hope!
Can do much better for the $
OK course. Nothing really special about the layout. Play it a couple of times and you figure out the tricky stuff and score. No length at all.
Very well kept for the most part. Food and amenities are average. Much too expensive for what you get, but it's not bad.
There are many better public layouts in central Jersey that are as good or better. Heron Glen is the public course for golfers to play. Can be played to a 73 and 140 or much less difficulty and totally public for half the price. If you're just a golfer, don't spend the money. If you get to play it on someone else's dime, by all means make the drive. It's really pretty there.
I'm not slamming this place. It's just that you can do much better for your $ in central Jersey.
Mid November, great weather, for golf !
Interesting course. While playing from the is short ( 5800 yards) and you think it's easy the course has enough hazards to blow up on your score. Especially on the water holes where it is a good idea to layup. Service is also top notch !
Awesome Course...
Can't rave about this course enough. Course was in great shape for early Nov. It was a blast to play. The great thing about this course is you don't have to use the driver at ever hole. You need all clubs in your bag. Whats very helpful is this course has a drone fly over of the holes on youtube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nlg889ZBnz0
Very helpful especially for 1st time players... on the flyover, the only deceptive hole is 12. The green is very elevated and it's a large green, so go for it!!!!! Don't try to be cute with it...
Knob Hill Golf Club
course for November in very good shape greens very fast some holes very challenging spectacular layout staff super friendly Love the place
Knob Hill
I play this course from time to time when the other courses in the area are too crowded. Conditions are usually pretty decent. Only issue seems to be after it rains and the course doesn't drain too well. The par 5 7th hole is always challenging. Water to the left of the fairway and the green is also surrounded by water. A little bit overpriced in season which makes this course a better play during twilight hours and in the slower season.
The cart girls are always nice and the bar has great food and drinks.
Terrible pace of play
A lot of older golfers playing at an extremely slow pace. Also an issue due to fact nobody wanted to let you play thru. Almost a 5 hour Wednesday morning round is crazy
Horribly Managed
This course used to be one of the best in central NJ. Just played it and they aerated in the middle of the summer... who ever the superintendent is doesn't have a clue. By aerating now, He weakened the grass roots which you never do in the middle of the summer because of the heat. as a result apx 50% of the course is absolutely dead.. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY until they hire a new super
Very Fast Greens
Conditions were great....... every hole had a different look.. Some water - if you don't know the course your ball will disappear...... Greens were in great shape and rolled true......
jersey stop
Nice little course, although with recent rains, very wet in some areas, a lot of bunkers badly damaged, in need of care. Greens weren't to bad, but you could tell too much much water and a lot of rounds on them, but undulations and slopes, they were a little tricky. Layout wasn't bad and a few of the holes, you had to take considerations into account on layups and approach shots.
Knob Hill Review
Played here before, but things were slightly different this time. While the staff was great and nothing but helpful and friendly, the course was a little more scattered than usual. i was thinking it was because of a few rowdy groups that day, but the sands in some holes were messy, and there were surprisingly more bird droppings on a couple of holes than i remembered. The food stand at the turn wasn't open the day i played as well.
Course itself was fine. No major issues for or against. Pretty solid which was the same as the last time I played. Pace was pretty quick as well.
Knob Hill 6/5/2016
I hadn't played here in 3-4 years and while it wasn't bad, nothing makes me want to rush back anytime soon.
I really didn't care for the layout. I found it to be a little goofy with many of the greens to be very tricked up. The front was a par 34 with 3 par 3's and only one par 5.
One hole was a a hard dog left right, where it looked like it would be easy to cut the corner over some trees, which I did.
When I got around the corner, there was a row of condos which I believe I hit over the top. Never a good thing to hit the ball over someone's house.
The greens still had aeration holes, which I found surprising for this late in the season.
There were also a couple of holes where if you stayed on the cart paths , you literally had a blind curve where you were directly in front of oncoming tee shots.
The staff was friendly, and the cart girl came around regularly.
Not terrible, but for the price you can do better.
Nice Course
Great staff, nice facility. Greens still bumpy from the recent aeration and top dress. Once they grow it they'll be great. Challenging layout with doglegs, elevation changes and water. Some holes are very forgiving but many are tight driving holes. Favor accuracy over distance. A few risk-reward driving holes for long hitters. Always well kept.

We would like to thank you for playing Knob Hill, we strive to provide the best experience for all players, both members and guests. We are very sorry you did not have an enjoyable one.
Last Fall we equipped all golf carts with GPS Monitoring devices which allows us to manage every single golf cart for location, infractions of rules, and pace of play from a central computer located in pro shop.
These devices are cutting edge technology and usually deliver a pace of around 4 hours and 30 minutes or better.
There could have been a unusual circumstance during your round and I would appreciate the opportunity to discuss it further with you to ensure future experiences at Knob Hill are enjoyable.
Please email me directly at louk@knobhillgc.com.
We appreciate and respect your review, look forward to talking with you.
