Weequahic Park Golf Course

I love the parkland style courses and this course is an oldie but a goodie. I recommend it for its fair but challenging track. Give it a try.

Love this golf course. My buddies and I are regulars and the condition of the course is always top notch, service fantastic, and the staff are always accommodating. Was a well kept little secret in the area for years, but the word is getting out that this a great bang for the buck and always fun.

Got there with my 7 year old daughter who has a ghin and the course is a youth on course partner and a MGA partner hence why we went there. Her first 18 hole experience. I could hear the employee talk really rudely to the people checking in before me. When it was my turn he was even ruder and unpleasant and giving me all the excuses why my daughter cant play. After showing him his own courses youth on course/first tee signs and her ghin number and their MGA partnership for $5 rounds he begrudgingly let us on. He also charged me $20 for her seat in the cart. When we went to the starter he gave me the same attitude and said she was a liability? He rushed us onto the tee and said we need to hit now as a twosome (course was booked all day). Didnt give the regular have you played here, yardage, watch out for these holes etc. So I go driver on the first hole because we had to hit NOW and all I needed was a 5 iron totally overshot the fairway and had to punch out for bogey, probably my fault there. So then we had to wait for the people in front of us eventually linking up with the other twosome with our tee time who were great people but had the same complaints about the rude staff.

I’ve been playing this course for 10+ years and I consider it to be my “home” course. It underwent renovations a few years ago and the clubhouse and course are very nice and well-maintained, especially considering that it’s public course. They also have a First Tee program at this course with excellent Coach Sem and Coach Chico, who have taught my teen and pre-teen sons some excellent golf. I took my sons to Weequahic today to play a full 18 and we had a great time. Jerry, the manager in the club house, and his assistant were friendly and got us out to play quickly. The course is very challenging because it is tight and you have to be very precise with your iron play or your scorecard will suffer. I like it for that reason as it’s an excellent way to teach a young golfer the consequences of decision making. The greens are also challenging because they have many undulations, but are not impossible. I can’t recommend Weequahic highly enough. Enjoy your round!

Very comfortable, well maintained, course with friendly staff. Besides some curious tee placements and the lack of a cart person, this is an under rated course. Having great partners, Allan & Fernando (regulars) made the day even nicer!

First time here and had a great experience, course was challenging and in good condition. Staff was friendly

It is a tight course embedded on the edge of a park and a very industrial area.

Yardage from back isn’t far, 5800 yards, but there are enough uneven lies and dog legs that it requires precision.

Bunkers are the softest sand I’ve seen on a public course in a long time.

Play felt slow, but still done under 4 hours. With several short Par 4 (under 315 from back), got stuck waiting on a couple tee boxes because of log jam from subsequent Par 3.

Narrow in parts, wider than interstate 78 nearby in others.

Only 40 walking, too.

Wish they had a logo ball or chip, but alas no luck.

Really nice course. Have enjoyed it all the times I have played. Word of caution, and we have checked this with others, you lose track of balls very easily on this course. Even with decent shots the are just off fairway, they become hard to find in any rough, etc. it is a very hilly course that has a lot of bounce and places where balls can just roll away without you realizing it.

Paired with three fellows 25 & under, these fellows were genial, but not a fan of the etiquettes of the game, particularly the pace of play. Very liberally retaking shots was the main beef. We had no one in front of us and a good 10 minutes of lead time after the first hole. That evaporated after the 4th hole. While I liked the fellows, one in particular would go through a solid minute to address each shot and not satisfied, take another. I found myself constantly prodding to pick up the pace and take a single shot. Not cool. This aside, I felt the course waranted better amenities. The carts very dated, scorecards are minimal with the most basic of info, no snack bar or toilets. If you never had played the course you're in trouble, there was no descriptive anywhere to help.

I live in Essex county with the taxes we pay, a better facility is expected. I regularly have played at Francis Byrne, which reopens next week. I had gone to Galloping Hill in Union county, last week and was impressed by all it offers.....especially compared to what is offered in our neck of the woods.
