Staff awful
Never seen a more miserable group of employees at a golf course. The man at the desk with black framed glasses was a total jerk and didn’t want to be bothered. Lighting alarm went off , so we rode in after 9holes and asked for a rain check. Same black framed glasses guy laughed at told us “no” and continued looking at his computer. Bergen county should fire all of them and this could be a nice place to play if not for the staff.
Enjoyable
Read previous reviews before I went. Most of the negative reviews were about the staff. Not this time . Everyone was friendly and helpful. As for the course there are plenty of holes with water involved. There was so much rain during the week it was cpo. Understandable. The greens were well kept. I would play again so obviously I would recommend it but with a caveat. Hot deals only otherwise if you’re not a member it’s pricey beyond worth
Thank you for visiting us at Overpeck Golf Course. We appreciate your 4-star rating and review. We hope you join us for another round soon.
Bergen County Embarassment
Bergen County has some of the worst managed courses in the state. If you have a tee time at any of the courses other than Rockleigh, be prepared to have all your equipment on hand as there is no pro shop to buy balls, tees, and gloves. If you're hungry, forget about that too. This includes Soldier Hill, Darlington and Valleybrook. Seriously?
Onto the Overpeck review. The clubhouse has been condemned/fenced off for over 4 years now and is a pretty embarrassing eyesore. There are trailers in the parking lot to collect your greens fee. Due to the heavy play this course gets and the money the course rakes in, they would offer players with slightly better amenities. (Mismanaged Funds)
Rarely, have I ever gone to a golf course where the employees SIT behind the counter in their cushy chairs, on their cell phones and watch TV as they attempt to service their customers. It's also a joy to see them scramble around when their computers go on the fritz. (Deer in headlights, comical) Almost 98% of all golf courses I have ever played have employees STAND behind the counter and serve their customers. NOT HERE, Only the men have uniforms (sorry ladies) and all have sour attitudes.
There is, if you can call it that a golf range but you have to shag-bag your own balls.
The golf course is the only thing that is worthy of note b/c they actually do their jobs and maintain it.
A better than expected muni golf experience
Even though I live within fifteen minutes of this course, I had never played it, largely due to the popularity of the course with locals and the difficulty in securing a tee time; it's usually easier to get Super Bowl tickets.
I was fortunate enough to have gotten a tee time to play yesterday and I was pleasantly surprised. The staff were all friendly and professional, and it was a beautiful day, especially considering the rains that came the night before.
As a result of the rains, however, the course was very muddy and swampy in a lot of spots, with poor drainage. It was the only negative I have to say about playing here, as everything else was great.
The course, while not long, has a challenging layout, with multiple water holes and lots of unexpected wind. Many times it was relatively calm at the tee, and you'll see your shot veer sharply to the left or right once it got in the air.
The greens were in decent shape overall, especially when you consider that this is a muni that gets a lot of play, with very few marks, but they have to be the slowest greens I've ever played, which added to the challenge quite a bit. I never did manage to adjust to the speed.
All in all, I intend to leave the confines of private and semi-private club playing and give this course another go. If you're up for a challenging layout and you live nearby, you can hardly go wrong with this course!

Overpeck is Solid
The course has a pretty cool design with a lot of water holes and different yardages. You are at a disadvantage playing the first time not knowing where the water is.
The greens were in good enough shape. It's tough to chip around the greens with the rough being very patchy, but it's what you can expect for the start of April.
The course was tougher due to the wind, but in general is gettable when the wind is down. Overall it's solid and would come back.

Appreciate this course
The course has an interesting layout. Some water, and narrow fairways on tougher holes. Rough can be brutal. Advise caution. Green is at the aerating process, so should be in better condition soon. Suggest back tee to add some challenge to your game. Pace of play can be improved but in all fairness I saw rangers along the way.
Good course for weekend warriors. Not bad for a county course. Walkable as well. No amenities or proshop though. They have a range but BYOB. Course could be better with bit more investment in my view.
Cheap if you get county rates
Green aerated but still ok condition. No clubhouse - temp trailer.
Fantastic course
Course is in great shape- a lot of water holes on the course, but really enjoyable to play. Tough greens!!
Really enjoyable round- good pace of play but they need a snack stand/restaurant!
Great course but....
Extremely poor customer service. The course is in fantastic shape, has a nice layout and is otherwise a great overall course. However the people that work there are very rude and simply could not be bothered to service it’s customers. As a county run course I guess it’s not much of a surprise but to not have golf carts available on a 95 degree day just because I rained the day prior is just brutal. No notification to those that booked and no relief on any prior fees paid up front. Very disappointing because the course itself is actually a fun and challenging round.
Wouldn't do it again
Course is in great shape for middle of June, but the pace of play was horrendous given it was a Monday. Finished 15 holes at 4:10. County course so no provisions beyond soda and snack machines. Not their fault but a warning to those from out of town or new to the area where this course is close in proximity. If tee times were spaced out better would come back but 10 minutes apart balanced with either high handicaps or general slowness is not a winning combination at current.
In good condition, good test
Greens and fairways in excellent shape. From back tees a good challenge. Lots of hazards and rough is not penal, but does make sporiach shots more difficult. Several holes require a lay up so course plays longer than score card
