After half the groups had teed off and there was still 4 or 5 in front of us. And we were on time. Photo submitted by null on 09/25/2014
My first impression was not the best because the gentleman in the club house when I was checking ignored me, after looking at me standing at the desk trying to check in. I had to get his attention to check me in, and when he did, he didn’t tell me the total or anything, just waved me off to tap my card. Then I stood there waiting for a receipt and the keys to the cart and he walked away saying “he just won money”. I had to get his attention yet again for him to finish checking me in and get the keys. It was extremely unprofessional and rude.
The woman in the snack bar area was very pleasant and made great drinks. The starters were great as well. Pace of play was a little slow because there were a lot of walkers. Course was in good shape though.
Fathers day golf.
Fun course. 6k length ok. play back tees box. pace of play was 4 1/2hrs. greens could use a lower cut bit fuzzy. overall will come back. Son took me for $5!
I've been playing Van Cortlandt golf course for at least 10 years. The staff is friendly, the instructor, Paul is knowledgeable and very friendly and the course is always in great condition.
Historic course, worth it for the $.
I mean, Babe Ruth played here! It has lots of mature trees and hazards, which you get with older courses. It' not long, but neither and I so it was a good fit.
Pace: Horrible!. We teed off at 2:30 for a 2 pm time. Waited on every shot on every hole. They would not even give us a cart (had to wait for someone turning theirs in) until after our tee time.
Condition: Some spots are poorly maintained or beat up, the greens are bumpy and on the slow side. Condition was a 6 out of 10.
Cart paths: Some are real kidney busters on an electric cart. There is sometimes 1/4 mile or more between a green and the next tee.
Summary: To play on a bit of history at a not-too-challenging course, it was worth it for sure.
Van Cortlandt Review
Nice Traditional Clubhouse with lots of Golf History. Course plays well with layout and pace of play. Greens need work. Will come back
