Dogwood/Oak Tree at Middle Island Country Club
About
Middle Island Country Club sits almost at the center of Long Island and has been one of the area's most popular public golf courses since first opening in 1965. The 27-hole course is divided into three nines that are played in different 18-hole combinations. The entire layout was carefully carved from 225 acres of the Lustengarten Nursery. Middle Island's Dogwood/Oak combination features narrow fairways lined with trees. The greens on the front nine are the most challenging of any of the three nines. They have subtle breaks that leave many golfers wondering how they "just missed" it. The Oak nine is almost as tough, but you will get a slight break. It requires careful course management since there are many doglegs that can make it play longer than what's indicated on the scorecard.

Went out in the afternoon. Nobody on the course which was nice. Fairways and greens were in great shape, tee boxes and the rough were in horrible shape. Enjoyable round and a nice challenge
Nice course
Course in good condition greens in fine shape.despite covid19 restrictions. The course Played well with windy conditions No carts available on this date not a difficult walk with push cart , after round was over was informed by staff that single carts available May 20
Friday golf with my Buddy Bobby
The day was almost perfect , we where the only ones on the course front 9 one of my best . Back 9 pace of play I needed to pick up because a little bit of rain. Great day. Beautiful course
Marathon
Was happy to be back playing golf for first time in 3 weeks, played with my son and friend of his. Teed off on Dogwood, first 2 holes breezed until we ran into two foursomes that were playing as if qualifying for US Open. Long boring story short, never offered to let us play through, 4 1/2 hours for 18 holes as threesome...painful. Course is decent shape, Spruce was nicer than Dogwood. Giving it another shot Sunday if weather holds out. Hope they hired a ranger by then!
Nice Greens
Course in good shape for early in our season . Greens are especially in great shape . Kudos to the staff for a job
Well done
Solid Round!
We had the entire course to ourselves on a nice day. Fairways were well maintained and the greens were in solid condition despite being March. Some challenging holes but there are holes to be rewarded with as well. Fun course, would come back at play 18.
Almost worth the $
Been playing here for years! I will only play when I get a HOT DEAL! they seem to be putting $$ into the clubhouse with some renovations thank god because it was falling apart. Their 9 hole Spruce course is by far their best and easiest course.
Oak and Dog have way too many areas rite off the fairway that are patchy and not maintained well at all. There is no rough on these courses, just fairway then dirt and gravel where rough should be. They have been increasing their pricing for the past 4-5 years with the new management. If they charged $40 for a round of 18 with a cart then it would be worth it. But they try and get $60+ based on time of day. Simply put if you want to play off spotty hardpan fairways and pay top dollar you will enjoy this place! It is so disappointing to hit a drive pin straight and when you get to your ball see it’s in the middle of the fairway and your hitting off hardpan.
Spruce course is nothing like their other 2! Spruce is wide open, It has Well maintained fairways and rough. You can tell that they take care of this course much better than the other 2. I would even ask if you could just replay Spruce for your 18 holes.
It is such a shame Because if they put some money to dedicate better irrigation and trim trees so you get more sun on the Dog and Oak courses it would be a premiere club. They have some stiff competition with other golf courses within a 15-20 mile radius so there is an abundance of golfers they would be able to capitalize on but until they take care of Dog and Oak like they do Spruce you will leave here thinking you got robbed for the price they charge. Hope this gets to management and they do change up how they care for ALL their courses and not just 1 of 3. Best of luck hope this helped and remember unless it’s a HOT DEAL I would pass this up to play at another club rite around the corner where every hole is beautiful and well taken care of.
Over booked tee time by Golfnow
I made a reservation at this course. They told me tee time was over booked mistakenly. I paid regular price for playing golf. They were not excused and asked me same price as golf course prepared. I had no choice to leave that place because I drove to come this course about an hour. It was very sad moment to go no where.
Very good condition
I've played this course numerous times and like the track very much. The fairways and tee boxes were in good shape considering this time of year. The greens were in excellent condition and it was a pleasure to putt on them. They ran very true and quick. The Staff here are always excellent and they let us out a little earlier than on tee time. If you haven't tried this course,I suggest you try it.
MICC
Middle Island Country Club didn’t seem to be very well kept. I think this could just be due to it being the beginning of the golf season. I got it on a “hot deal” of $17 18 holes and a cart. I feel that overall, it was just very bleak compared to other courses in the area. I would not recommend this course unless you got in on a “hot deal”.
