Oak Tree/Spruce at Middle Island Country Club
About
Middle Island Country Club offers 27 holes of championship golf. It is one of Long Island's most popular public golf courses. It sits almost right at the center of the island, surrounded by the Lustengarten Nursery. The holes are divided into three nines and played as different 18-hole combinations. The Oak/Spruce Course begins with the shortest of the three nines, but there are some tricky doglegs that can make it play longer than what it says on the scorecard. Middle Island's Spruce nine was renovated in 2008, which added an island green on the par-4 seventh and more tee boxes to allow for women, seniors, and championship play. It's the most player friendly of the three nines, with wide fairways and generous greens that give you the freedom to grip it and rip it.

Finally a break from heat
Today is a break from a long string of high temp heat which lasted prob month and 1/2. Played Oaktree to Spruce, front 9 need course management to avoid rough and trees. Back 9 needs to put ball at places to have a chance to use your long iron/woods to get on the green. Over-all fun would keep coming back!!
Spruce course was nice, dogwood greens were beat up.
Awesome
3 of my friends and I had an awesome time on this course. It’s a pretty easy course overall with challenging components (deep par 3) (water). We all loved the course and already spoke about booking another tee time!
I booked 18 holes and paid and they only let me play 9 and would not refund any money or credit me or my account. They said i had to contact golf now but they never get back to me about this
Better off hitting balls in your back yard.
Understandable that a lot of courses have seen some heavy traffic this year with everyone at home, but the conditions in relation to the price was reprehensible.
Not my first time playing the course and I'd say it's mediocre at best when well kept (not that I've seen it well kept) but today took the cake. The course is basically crab grass dirt and rocks. Greens literally look like mine fields with putts skipping and playing plinko across the surface.
To say it fairly, if this ended up being the only course open on long island, I'd just take up a new sport as opposed to playing here ever again. At 86$ (price with cart) this place is an absolute JOKE.
Old day!
Hadn’t played here since June. Fairways and greens in very good shape!
Early tee time. Done in a little over 4 hrs.
Extremely slow play for a twilight round, balls flying every where, granted we played the day after the “hurricane” it was wet and very slow greens, the course was packed, no real order or control. Tight fair ways and holes on top of eachother had balls flying every where. Fairways were in decent shape, most tee boxes were ok. Players do not repair pitch marks or divots, which isn’t the courses fault is the disrespect of inexperienced players.
Great bones
We played this course on a Thursday afternoon and felt like we had the course to ourselves. Obviously pace of play was great. The course itself was in great shape and the carts seemed to be all new. Very enjoyable round. We all commented that the place has great bones to be a country club style environment. I'm sure in its day it was amazing. I'd love to see the owners invest in a renovation of the grounds and buildings. The course itself was great and we plan to be back many times this season.
golf
very nice course, however, the pace of play was very slow
The website of this course is very misleading. What a waste of a layout. The layout of the course is ok and this course has potential, but the place is a dump. No manicuring, place looks run down and old! Needs major refurbishing! The traps and edges of greens are not well kept. They also have sprinklers going on in afternoon in the middle of your round. They need a new course superintendent. Much nicer places you can play for the same or even less $. Was disappointed. Clubhouse is run down and looks like a foreclosure!
Not Worth $86
To be honest, I played Middle Island because I was unable to secure an early tee-time at any of the courses in my normal rotation for Saturday and Sunday mornings. I was surprised to see that the cost for the round was $86. Initially, I thought to myself "Well, there must be a good reason the cost is so high".
I played The Spruce and Dogwood nines. Neither of then were tremendous shape. On the Spruce nine, I could recall that holes #6 and 8 were the ones that jumped out at me. Unfortunately, I don't recall any of the holes on the Dogwood nine. If I am going to pay $86, my hope is that I will find more than two holes to stickout. The only memory I took with me today, was the threesome of a father and his two sons I was paired with. A nice group of guys. I hope I have the chance of playing with them again. I'm sorry I do not have the same hope of laying the course.
To summarize - You can find many more quality courses for less money. Save yourself a trip.
Yellow Jackets
Course is not playable. Their are yellow jackets nests through out both woods courses, up and down the fairways and around the greens.
You should invest more focus on treating these pest so the golfers can enjoy a full round.
Fun course to play but...
The course was in good condition and fun to play. The only issue I had was that they were putting groups out 5 minutes apart which caused a lot of pace issues.
