Spruce/Dogwood at Middle Island Country Club
About
Located almost in the center of Long Island, the aptly named Middle Island Country Club is one of the area's most popular public golf courses. The 27-hole layout is divided into three nines that are played in 18-hole combinations. The Spruce/Dogwood begins with a front nine that underwent a major renovation in 2008. An island green was added to the par-4 seventh and another major addition was new tee boxes to accommodate women, seniors, and championship play. Middle Island Country Club's Spruce nine boasts generous fairways and large greens where there is plenty of room to grip it and rip it. Take advantage of the scoring opportunities on this nine because the Dogwood nine gets much more challenging. The back nine is a formidable test with narrows fairways and greens with surprising breaks that will have you wondering how you "just missed" it.

Too slow
You need to tell people that are booking on Golfnow when there is a society day. It was so busy and hardly any of the groups could play golf, let alone respect the pace of play. We gave up after 14 holes as we were looking at a 5 hour round.
Narrow!
Nice woodsy course but very narrow in spots. Need to make straight shots or pay the price! Staff very helpful. Nice pro shop. Some beautiful views on the course. Peaceful place!
A well-kept secret in Central Suffolk County
I always love playing here. This course seems to bring out the best in me. Tree-lined and narrow. It forces me to focus on aim and concentration. It is a beautiful setting. Golfers I get paired with are shocked when I tell them I drive almost an hour to play there but it is well worth the ride. After 2:30 is a perfect time because I almost have the course to myself.
Despite the very dry weather, the course was in very decent shape. Staff was very pleasant.
I am 70 years old and appreciate the fact they have a set of Senior tees but Ii would argue they are too long.
One hole is a 455 yard par 4 from the Senior tees!!!!!!!
Overall, 6100 yards for a Par 71 is just too long
I would ask management to consider shortening these tees some 400+ yards
Worth the Trip
Decent course with challenging holes and generally in good shape
Be prepared for slow pace if you tee off in the morning.
Please don’t waste your time
I have given MICC numerous chances over the past handful of years. Have historically played 1-2 times per month. I ask all of you reading this to not waste your time. The conditions are horrible, grass is not maintained at all. Pace of play is among the worst around. My group typically plays at 6am (first tee time) they routinely let people out on the back 9 which slows the pace of play to a crawl at best. Starter is often unfriendly, acting as if he is doing us a favor by letting us play for a round that we paid $90 for, which is far too much for what this course has to offer.
