Spruce/Dogwood at Middle Island Country Club
About
Located almost in the center of Long Island, the aptly named Middle Island Country Club is one of the area's most popular public golf courses. The 27-hole layout is divided into three nines that are played in 18-hole combinations. The Spruce/Dogwood begins with a front nine that underwent a major renovation in 2008. An island green was added to the par-4 seventh and another major addition was new tee boxes to accommodate women, seniors, and championship play. Middle Island Country Club's Spruce nine boasts generous fairways and large greens where there is plenty of room to grip it and rip it. Take advantage of the scoring opportunities on this nine because the Dogwood nine gets much more challenging. The back nine is a formidable test with narrows fairways and greens with surprising breaks that will have you wondering how you "just missed" it.

Getting better
Place is in great shape. Def seems like they are trying to improve it. Only complaint was we had to play play the back two 9’s instead of the the front which is a nice open track because they had some slow play I front of us. Not the course fault but I guess they could have sped them up.
excellent shape
really a challenging course, nice layout.greens are plush ,but not fast.lots of shade if you need to hide from the sun at the tee box.
Ballparks / pace of play issues
Overall decent experience. Finding more and more courses on the Island having ball
mark repair issues with golfers. Way to many on several greens. It should be considered a privilege to repair a mark you made from sticking a green. Also, as with many public courses we came to a screeching halt with a foust e in front of us playing from the whites, hitting ten yards past the golds on every hole. We had to ask to pass it was so painful. Hard to control that I know. But it is a nice course and people should respect Golf etiquette more and we would all enjoy it to the fullest no matter the skill level.
Make Sure You Have Plenty of Time
Course was in good condition. Pace of play was terrible. Over 5 hours to play 18 holes.
Nice local course
First time playing the course since I’ve just gotten into the game. If you have a slice you’re going to be looking for your ball in the trees for sure. Everything is tree line. The grounds are well kept and the staff is friendly.
Best round ever
I enjoyed my best round of golf from a performance standpoint as well as from a pace standpoint.
Slow & Rude
Guy in proshop- rude
Starter- rude
Ranger- rude & non existent on course
Pace- 5 hours
Tees- in terrible shape and tee markers placed in stupid spots
Greens- slow, full of divots and holes haven’t been moved in weeks
Listen, came here last summer and it was crap…. Tried to give it another chance but even with nobody there we were 20 minutes behind schedule and played in 5 hours. With Mill Pond on the other side and Great Rock re-opening there is no sense ever going here again
disappointing
not worth the $90 cart included. pins haven’t been moved in weeks. pace of play is horrendous . 5+ hours today. conditions continue to deteriorate. won’t be going back . sad cause has potential to be good .
