Spruce/Dogwood at Middle Island Country Club
About
Located almost in the center of Long Island, the aptly named Middle Island Country Club is one of the area's most popular public golf courses. The 27-hole layout is divided into three nines that are played in 18-hole combinations. The Spruce/Dogwood begins with a front nine that underwent a major renovation in 2008. An island green was added to the par-4 seventh and another major addition was new tee boxes to accommodate women, seniors, and championship play. Middle Island Country Club's Spruce nine boasts generous fairways and large greens where there is plenty of room to grip it and rip it. Take advantage of the scoring opportunities on this nine because the Dogwood nine gets much more challenging. The back nine is a formidable test with narrows fairways and greens with surprising breaks that will have you wondering how you "just missed" it.

There’s always tee times available
Fairways and green s are in great shape bunkers ok but overall nice place to play
Nice Layout
Played Spruce / Dogwood nines,
Mostly generous fairways plus a few challenging target golf holes and one layup hole before water carry.
Great course slow play
There was a foursome Two groups in front of us that were playing extremely slow. Marshals drove by them and didn’t say anything
3 Hroup backup
I know it was Fathers Day and EVERYONE was out. On the 3rd hole a ranger did come out. There was 3 groups on the hole with a 4th right behind. Unfortunately it didn’t change pace of play.
Decent Course Long waits
Played on Fathers day so we expected it to be a bit slow due to it being busier. It was the longest round i have ever played. almost 6 hours i wanna say they over booked for the holiday. Otherwise a very fun round of golf would avoid on busier days though.
Horrible
5 and a half hours at 7am. Pace of play was horrid. Waited on every shot. Not a single ranger all day. Starter was a jerk from the get go. Idiots blasting music and driving carts all over the place. Will be the last time I ever play this course.
Not great
Had an 11:28 tee time booked, got to the range at about 11:00 and about 5 swings into my warm up the starter was telling me I had to tee off. My playing partner was walking up from the parking lot and I told the starter he would be there in a couple of minutes. I also mentioned that the tee time was at 11:28 and it was only 11:14 why were we starting 14 minutes early. His response was if we didn’t go now we’d have to wait a while before we could tee off because it was backing up. None of this made sense to me and it made both me and my playing partner decide to never play here again.
Challenging but fun.
Course was extremely well kept, staff was pleasant and helpful. Spotted a beaver how cool is that?
Slow pace of play
Course was in good condition but the pace of play makes it not worth it. Guys waiting at the tee guys on the tee guys on the green. It was not worth the money
Memorial Day at Middle Island
Wet moring but this crazy club still let carts out. Course was in great shape. This was the best the course has looked in a few years. The management company is doing a terrible job with pro shop, clubhouse and food. The round was better than expected.
Conditions
Fairways and greens were acceptable. Sand traps are in horrible shape. This is a narrow course in many spots and they have allowed overgrowth of the trees -- on one hole, a good portion of the right side of the tee box is unusable due to overhanging branches. There are many other courses to choose from in this area, unless they put more effort into maintaining these issues, this course will not be worth playing.
