Spruce/Dogwood at Middle Island Country Club
About
Located almost in the center of Long Island, the aptly named Middle Island Country Club is one of the area's most popular public golf courses. The 27-hole layout is divided into three nines that are played in 18-hole combinations. The Spruce/Dogwood begins with a front nine that underwent a major renovation in 2008. An island green was added to the par-4 seventh and another major addition was new tee boxes to accommodate women, seniors, and championship play. Middle Island Country Club's Spruce nine boasts generous fairways and large greens where there is plenty of room to grip it and rip it. Take advantage of the scoring opportunities on this nine because the Dogwood nine gets much more challenging. The back nine is a formidable test with narrows fairways and greens with surprising breaks that will have you wondering how you "just missed" it.

Open course for the beginner golfer. Greens are consistent and are usually kept well
Nice course
Tee boxes Fairways are in good condition. Some hanging branches that hangout into fairway block shots makes course a little difficult. Staff is friendly.Good value for the money
Fair and challenging
I’ve been playing here off and on since the 80’s. It has always been one of my favorite tracks. I like that there’s less trees than there use to be which gives it a aesthetic beauty to the eye. Fairways and greens are always in good condition bunkers not so good need more sand..Every club in your bag will probably be used!!
Great conditions, Great Price
We played Oak Tree on the front nine and Dogwood on the back nine. Conditions were great. Some of the Par 5 wholes were a bit on the long side. A fun challenge. Price was also very attractive. Easy on, Easy off. I would definitely play there again.
Greens are terrible
I found that your course was in beautiful condition my only real issue that I had is that no one told me that your greens were Air rated anyone that plays golf know that putting is everything in golf I wish someone told me the greens were air rated I would have never have paid a lot of money to play on your course It should be the courses responsibility to notify anyone willing to play on your course that your greens have been air rated and if they are air raided you should reduce your price
Awesome course
Easily one of my favorite courses on the island. Challenges but very very fun. The entire course was very well kept and the staff was friendly.
Greatly improved Middle Island Country club
Overall the course was in very good condition. I haven’t played Middle Island in a couple years. The management and staff have done an excellent job improving the golf course. Fairways and tee boxes were very nice. The greens were just aerated so they were difficult to judge. They used sand nicely to make them smooth. We did not have a wait on any holes so our pace of play was perfect. Great job Middle Island Golf Course. We will be back! Food and drink prices were very good also.
Course was in really good condition
The fairways and greens were in really good condition. The course was crowded, but the pace of play was really good. This is my second time playing the course and would definitely recommend it. It seems like they are doing a lot of work to the course and can’t wait to see what it looks like next year. We had lunch in the club house and even though it is dated, the food was really good. Only suggestion would be to have a beverage cart on the course.
Good challenge for the average golfer.
As always the course is in good condition. The fairways and greens are just fine. My only pet peeve on this course, as well as many other courses I play is the inability of the players to replace divots and ball marks, rake the bunkers and generally show some respect for the game.
Much Improved
Been playing here for a few years, last year the course needed a lot of help. This year the course is much improved.
I really like the layout.
What a shame
I recall this course being well maintained, with nice greens, now it's in terrible shape, greens have patches of crab grass, rough is overgrown, 4-5 inches deep, ball cleaners without fluid, bunkers not raked from previous day. We arrived 25 mins early, and even though tee box was open, were told $25 extra per player to go out we waited 20 mins and went out at golf now price. New management not investing in course, really cheap new management..What a shame, this used to be a good course.,
A bunch of doglegs
We played Oaktree and Dogwood. I hook the ball and my partner fades the ball. Oaktree favors the fade and Dogwood favors the hook. This made it very fair to each of us and we had a great time. Nice layout and greens were in nice shape.
though no one was there, pro shop would not let us tee off much ahead of time even though rain was eminent.bar prices are off the charts and not professinal
