Spruce/Dogwood at Middle Island Country Club
About
Located almost in the center of Long Island, the aptly named Middle Island Country Club is one of the area's most popular public golf courses. The 27-hole layout is divided into three nines that are played in 18-hole combinations. The Spruce/Dogwood begins with a front nine that underwent a major renovation in 2008. An island green was added to the par-4 seventh and another major addition was new tee boxes to accommodate women, seniors, and championship play. Middle Island Country Club's Spruce nine boasts generous fairways and large greens where there is plenty of room to grip it and rip it. Take advantage of the scoring opportunities on this nine because the Dogwood nine gets much more challenging. The back nine is a formidable test with narrows fairways and greens with surprising breaks that will have you wondering how you "just missed" it.

The starter called Sal Cooper is terrible
We finished 9 holes in Dogwood in 2 hours because our twosome started the tee time at 6:48am. The starter called Sal Cooper made us waited for 1 hour 45 minutes before we could start another 9 holes. We paid $68 prime time rate to play only 15 holes in 5.5 hours mostly due to the long wait between the two 9 holes. We could not continue as we needed to go somewhere. The starter Sal Cooper's poor management of distributing players to the three 9-hole courses ruined our mood on a perfect golf day. Instead of following the order of play based on tee time and the turn around time from 1 course to another course, he chooses who he likes to cut the waiting line.
Green not cleared of morning do
The new management must be cutting cost. Had early tee time. Office wasn’t even open when we arrived.
The first 9 greens still had water on them from the morning do. Will not return. And will tell all golfer stay away from Middle Island CC. Spring Lake & Mill Pond closer & great experience. Stay away from Middle Island CC.
Greens were horrible
I love to play this course. The general area of the course was great; except the greens were not in good shape. There were so many ball marks from people not repairing them. I do not know how to remedy people being so insensitive to the rules of golf. Otherwise it was a great day
This course is in my rotation
Course is in great shape. A slow inexperienced foursome was in front of us and the course Ranger diplomatically arranged us to play thru. Will be playing there again soon.
Great value for money
This course is a great value. Three nine hole tracks good for any handicap golfer. The staff is very friendly and accommodating.
Middle island country club
Beautiful course not crowded and worth the money to play
Challenging Course, Greens were recently airated but also had fungus
Played this course many times and it is always in good condition. This particular round was a Sunday afternoon at 2:30. Play started out fast paced but caught a threesome with a foursome ahead of them. Slowed play to a screeching halt.
Course was ok, greens weee not in great shape and head some sort of fungus.
Will play there again
Decent track
Decent public course, never a problem getting tee times. 3 nines is cool. Pace of play is WAAAAY better than Bethpage. Traps need work and the 9th green on Dogwood is a complete joke, should be blown up and redesigned.
Poor condition
Course is in such bad shape from where it used to be. I used to play here once a week. Greens are horrendous. Hard pan all over. Starter sends ppl out right in front of you on crossover. There are 3 9’s. Shouldn’t we be using them all? Just falling apart and won’t play here anymore!
Course, staff and other golfers were great!
I am a relative inexperienced golfer, loving the game and expect to be playing more . I had driven be The MICC hundreds of times and is less than 2 miles from where I live. Decided to try it with my brother and reserved twosome easily on GolfNow .
In the needs improvement category:
The driving range was under renovation so not available, would have been good to know because I arrived early to warm up.
Also never saw a refreshment/snack cart. Would have been nice to have had the offering :
All the rest was fantastic!
Registering, starting, course layout, carts, pace of play, greens, club house, staff combined to make it a great Saturday .
The other golfers were also very friendly and helpful, especially the two some the starter put us with on the the spruce course (after completing the Dogwood course)
Probably the best experience I have had on a course.
Thanx to all!
Wednesday in February
I played this course with two friends a week ago. The weather was forecasted to be warm especially for February. The front nine took 2-1/2 hours. No joke, in the afternoon in February. That wasn't the real issue. There were no rakes in any of the bunkers and there was a ton of maintenance that was not being done. I have played in here before, more in season and remember it being nicer than my last experience. All in all it was good to get out, but comparatively not a great experience.
Wet and cool
The course was soaked so we had to walk. Greens were in poor shape. The rest of the course was ok. Could have used a little bit of a branch and leaves clean up.
Tight many over hanging tree limbs
I used to play this course alot I gave up ...From the back tees there are way too many overhanging tree limbs in play. Its ok on a few holes nothing wrong w a challenge however on the oak and especially the Dogwood its unfair to any level amateur golfer. The bunkers are in bad condition hard pan w rocks. And in between the holes if you mishit. You must deal w rocks and tree roots everywhere.
