Spruce/Dogwood at Middle Island Country Club
About
Located almost in the center of Long Island, the aptly named Middle Island Country Club is one of the area's most popular public golf courses. The 27-hole layout is divided into three nines that are played in 18-hole combinations. The Spruce/Dogwood begins with a front nine that underwent a major renovation in 2008. An island green was added to the par-4 seventh and another major addition was new tee boxes to accommodate women, seniors, and championship play. Middle Island Country Club's Spruce nine boasts generous fairways and large greens where there is plenty of room to grip it and rip it. Take advantage of the scoring opportunities on this nine because the Dogwood nine gets much more challenging. The back nine is a formidable test with narrows fairways and greens with surprising breaks that will have you wondering how you "just missed" it.

Middle Island Golf Club
Golf Now booked the course and charged my credit card a reservation fee of $5.00 - they also guaranteed me a green fee plus cart of $75 - when I got to course the cashier said he would give us the going rate of $55 for green fee and cart and would not hold us to the Golf Now rate of $75 - I will never use Golf Now again!
Early round
Played very early in the season the oak and spruce courses specifically. The greens were still sanded from the opening of the year and so it's hard to judge the quality of them
love the course,hate the weather!
The front 9 was great! But on the 10th hole, winter arrived along with 30mph winds and a cold rain.Blew all the leaves onto the fairway and had a hard time finding balls hit dead straight.
GREENS WERE IN GREAT SHAPE
The greens were in great shape. No signs of aeration. Played 18 in 4 hours at 9:00 tee time. Very unusual for Middle Island.
The course was in great shape. The new owners have really done a good job. Still not happy about not having some place to hang out and eat and drink afterwards.
The price is right!!!!!
Greens were in great shape!!!! Fairways manageable!!!!! Bunkers need a little work . Overall play was fast and enjoyed ourselves!!!!!!!
Very good day
Flexible starter offered other course options to avoid backups and at the turn. Everything was in great condition, tee boxes, fairways, bunkers and greens.
Excellent course, it was great to play
Enjoyed, will go back, Had a great golf day This was an excellent value
Course is challenging and fun
Great course but just like all other courses nowadays a little steep in price for the average Joe
Course in great shape- great value for money
I have played Middle Island before and dealt with the aeration issues and such as others have mentioned, but decided to go back and am glad I did. My friend and I played 18 holes, Spruce to Dogwood, and have to say the courses were in fantastic condition. The greens were in great shape but could be a bit faster, no big deal. I was surprised on how empty the course was but the starter said that we were there on a slow day. We played 2 balls a piece and still played in under 4 hours. And with a 7:36 tee-off the price was only $50 with a cart! I will definitely be playing here again this season.
Mix and match.
I just love this course. I've been playing here since the 1960's when I played with my mom and dad and we all pulled our clubs because carts were too expensive. Every time I play here it brings back such nice memories. The course is in great condition and they keep making it even better.
I like the fact that all 3 courses are different enough to make it very interesting and challenging.
The staff is just fabulous and with Golf Now the hot deal prices are just awesome !
It doesn't hurt that it's only 15 minutes from my house either.
In the words of an old tv commercial " Try it, you'll like it ! "
3 hrs and 45 min round.
3 hr and 45 mins for a round? what's there to complain about. Course was well kept, it did have spots on the fairway which was roped off due to water drainage issue and the locker room needs to be updated. Other than that, fastest round i have ever played.
Greens need to be cut and rolled. Greens are very soft and slow.
Greens need to be cut and rolled. Greens are very soft and slow.
This course has great character.
Each hole is different and interesting to play.
The greens were in perfect shape.
The speed of play was faster than the average course on Long Island.
Tee time error
Upon arrival we booked a 8:40 tee time thru Golf Now. When we arrived there were 3 other tee times booked thru the Internet with the same tee time. The clubhouse employes said that there must have been an error with the golf now or our website. We said that how can that be when we have confirmation numbers and paid a fee. He replied can you wait and I'll see if we can get you out. After waiting an hour, it seemed that he was more interested in getting his customers money than taking care of the situation with us. There were several other tee times with the same problem. I would like to know what is golf now or mid island country club going to do about this.. By the Wayne waited over an hour then they squeezed us in however it was a 5 hour round.
Staff not friendly at all.
We showed up and it was raining so we were the only ones there. The staff couldn't be bothered with us. First they told us there were no carts which is understandable but they charged us $5 for pull carts. The third person in our party is a dentist and had an emergency so showed up late. He experienced te same level of dismissal. They rolled a cart out to him even though he had three coffees in his hand and didn't even offer to put his bag on the cart. Doesn't matter if the course is nice or not. Don't waste your money here. They don't care.
Great Value right now
played on Wednesday. Booked as twosome and played as twosome, with twosome in front and another 4 holes behind.
Course condition is ok, considering how slow business is overall, but I've seen the course in much better condition only a few years back. Great value to be had booking online.
Three nines
The course had three nines, this made for quick play.. Two nines were wooded and one was a bit more open. Greens were smooth, no ball marks, average speed. A good value course.
Challenging
Great course to test your shot accuracy. Very good condition. Excellent pace of play...
WELL MAINTAINED TEE BOXES & GREENS
ENJOYABLE ROUND OF GOLF NICE TRACT PACE OF PLAY GOOD

What we like is there are 3 nine hole courses so play moves along especially during the week and weekend afternoons
