Fairways were like brown rock. Heat wave & lack of rain have taken its toll. Next year should be better.

Thank you for taking the time to share your comments. We’re very disappointed to learn that we did not live up to your expectations. The course conditions are a direct impact of the drought conditions we’ve experienced throughout the summer. It is not due to the lack of attention of the maintenance staff. We're still waiting on that much needed rain. At Somers National, we heavily rely on mother nature to generate enough natural water to feed the ponds situated throughout the course.

During your recent round, you’ve probably noticed the extremely low water levels of the ponds. We are a course that relies on adequate rainfall and we are more vulnerable to damage during a drought. We’ve encountered a spell of dry weather that we haven’t seen in many many years. In cases like this, there isn’t much our superintendent and operations team can do other than try to keep primary playing areas, like the greens, healthy and wait for rain. When grasses are stressed by lack of water, they go into drought-induced dormancy where growth slows and the grass loses color. In most cases, the grass is not dead and will regain its color once rain returns.

We try to make every guest aware of the situation and conditions prior to their rounds. We've noted the conditions prominently on our website as well as the booking confirmation notes.

Again, we are sorry we did not provide a positive experience. We are looking forward to better weather conditions in a few weeks. We hope you will give us another opportunity. At any time, please feel free to contact us at info@somersnational.com or 914-342-3273

We need rain!

Sadly the course was very burnt out worse then any I’ve played in recent weeks. They did a good job keeping the greens in shape but the rest is all dirt at this point. I don’t want to be to harsh we haven’t had rain and it’s taking it’s toll on the course. 50$ Was a bit much for current conditions but hopefully we get rain soon.

Worst course I’ve ever played!

Please do not play here. I never played a course with conditions this terrible. All of the tee boxes are just dirt, all the fairways have barely any grass on it. This course has been left to ruin. Please don’t pay money to play here. Worst course I’ve ever played.

Challenging course

Due to weather the course grass is dry, but the greens are great. The course layout it self is great, challenging course for a beginner. Many elevation changes which is great practice. Really need to know how to read the terrain and plan your shots accordingly.

Bad Shape

I know it’s because of lack of rain, but the course is in terrible shape. Fairways are dead, balls roll out forever until it finds something to stop it. Greens are the only thing still decent. With the course in this shape i’d think they’d charge a lot less.

No grass at all

This course is so bad. There are all concrete fairways. Whenever you hit a good shot, the ball will roll off the fairway into the wood. Lost balls! The only green you see is the green and around the green. No grass anywhere else. Do not go there unless you see it in person. I have never play a golf course without a fairway.

Fast greens and fairways

This is a court that challenges you in every way. It’s very narrow so driver may stay in the bag but I enjoy the challenge because it makes you focus that much more on making good decisions.

The recent lack of rain has made the fairways almost as fast as the greens!

I wouldn’t recommend for a beginner. But if you’re up for the challenge Blake sure to bring lots of balls.

WORST COURSE IN WESTCHESTER. AVOID.

Rock hard fairways bc of zero irrigation. Course layout sucks, it’s so narrow and lots of undulation. Zero maintenance team; except for the guy mowing the dead fairways??? Explain that to me!!! LOL

Greens “look” great bc they are sprayed - roll inconsistently. A few decent holes but the others should be rebuilt or blown up. No halfway house or water jugs on the course. Even in the summer, no water jugs? Criminal.

Perfect shots go out of bounds because of the concrete like fairways and narrow holes.

I will never play here again. Luckily the round was $50 although I still feel like I was taken for a ride.

Tried to upload a pic of the horrendous fairways but don’t think it worked. Imagine the desert floor and there ya go.

Possibly the worst course in NY State

I grew up near Somers hasn’t been here in years so I figured I’d check it out. Big mistake. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted at the bag stop by a starter who 1. Wouldn’t let me go out a few mins early despite the course being empty and 2. Wouldn’t allow me to take a solo cart because there was another single on my same tee time and the course “likes to conserve gas” (this is a direct quote). I decided to walk and he allowed me to pop out alone onto the essentially empty course.

The northeast has been in a rough drought this summer so I didn’t expect lush greenery but the tee boxes and fairways are all dead and hard dirt. Clearly no attempt to salvage them or the impossibly narrow fairways. The greens were in good shape.

After walking 9 holes, despite paying for 18, I left and don’t plan on ever returning. The surrounding area has plenty of better options for public golf. Simply put, there’s literally no reason to ever play golf here.

Grass of fairway were all dried and clay ground almost all.

Condition of greens were maintained well but fairways were horrible. All grass on the fairway were dried and deadly looking.all above places on the fairways.

I believe this summer was remaining very high temperatures and they was not able to take care all fairways with spring cooler by local restriction or budgets.

There used to be nice condition and to maintain well.

I’m not going to come this course again even though GN deals nice low price for golfing. Maybe I’ll try next year.

I felt that I was playing golf in some desert area such as Texas dried link course.

Hope that good take care of courses for future customers.

Burnt

Fairways are burnt to a crisp! Very hard to keep balls in play u less you think of it as a links course overseas and play very, very controlled golf. Greens were ok. I guess late on Sunday afternoon they are very short staffed. No starter or ranger.

Course is unplayable

First of all I get it, it's been a drought summer and it's impossible to keep courses in prestine condition especially for those lower end muni courses but this course has lost control of the course.

I'm not talking dormant rough or fairway grass but the entire course is burnt grass, concrete hard fairways. To make it worse the course is tight and has severely sloped fairways, hole 2 for example, is the first of the unplayable holes- par 5 with a large hill running down the length of the fairway on the left and the fairway is sloped left to right, all 4 of my playing partners hit the fairway then watched our balls roll into the woods. For giggles I dropped a ball from my pocket into the fairway to see if it would stay and it rolled right off the fairway into the woods. There's about 5/6 holes on the course that are similarly unplayable. The rest you can atleast keep the ball on the course.

This isn't a case of just drought conditions it's bad management, the greens and aprons are so wet that you leave spike marks as you walk and balls embed into the green if hit with low irons.

Like playing golf on concrete

Ive never written a review for anything but I feel people need to be aware that this course blows. Greens are alright but i literally was able to drop my ball and it came back up to my hand like I was on asphalt when in the fairway of many holes. The firmness of the course along with the hilliness made it not fun.

Course needs sprinklers and some aeration terribly
