A Westchester Gem
I love this course because it is by itself without any housing surrounding the layout. Once you get past the 1st hole you are out on an old Westchester course and could be playing in the 60's. The layout itself is basic with a few challenges thrown in to keep one on their toes. Course conditions are very good and green are consistent but pin placement can be a bit weird sometimes. The staff are county employees and are helpful but can be grumpy sometimes. There is a basic snack bar but the outdoor pizza oven restaurant and bar at the 19th hole is great.
Well maintain course!
Green condition is much better than last visit(2016)
I would play this course again!!!
a good day at maple moore
the course is in very good shape, especially the greens.
tee boxes could be better, limited the tee box space was bad. they have more room they should use it.
nicer than saxon woods, but extremely straight course.
Great course, poor pace of play
Took just over 5 hours to play 18. It was a crowded day (Friday before Memorial Day) but didn’t once see a course marshall and the group in front of me was taking multiple extra tee shots and looking for their ball for over 5 min a hole. Course itself is well maintained and the restaurant is fantastic.
The course Marshall needs to do his job
The course is good, the weather is good. It would have been a perfect round if not for the two young players before us. It's perfectly okay to play badly, but it is not okay to hold up everyone behind by spending 5 minutes on searching for the ball at every hole. The course marshall really needs to do his job.
Good public course
I have played here many times over the yuan’s nothing has changed much here, but that’s a good thing. . It can play long from the blues but no forced carries. I recommend this course , the conditions are usually good and challenging. Greens run around 9 and pretty true.
The course was in great condition especially considering the cold weather that has persisted this year....
Great experience!
I played this course for the very first time and I felt like I’ve played this course forever—and it was only made possible by the extraordinary service of Tom and his crew!
I couldn’t tell you how much it means and how important it is for a newbie in a new course to be treated as a regular! Top marks for the service!
Same goes for the course, as it was kept in amazing shape for a late autumn/early winter round in December! The pro shop is well stocked, and the service, again, is superb, to say the least!
As a golfer who plays nearly two-to-three times a week in and around NYC, I made a commitment to go to Westchester, a 40-minute drive from NYC and didn’t expect much, but I’m completely sold on the overall experience.
A minor wrinkle would be the lack of snack amenities; however, there is a fine restaurant above the pro shop, but trivial things like a bottle of water, or snack, was hard to come by. Had I known earlier, I would’ve bought my own stash—perhaps maybe in the peak seasons, they do, but I didn’t ask; I will update on this next time I visit.
The pace of place was amazing, so water/snacks was not even a concern. The restrooms were well kept, and the free parking was also a great sell!
I wouldn’t mind trekking 40-minutes out of the city to play this course again. Highly recommend this course! Cheers for making my day! I’m sure they will make yours!
Cold Sunny day in December
My friend and I marveled at the quality of the fairways and greens on this busy golf course. We were stuck between two groups of 3 and the pace was painfully slow, but this did not spoil our day. This course is one of my top choices in Westchester.
Not for me
When the course is in good shape and there’s not a lot of people out , it’s usually a good experience here as a quick round after work. I have had two of those before, but this time not so much. First of all we were a threesome, then they added a fourth which is fine, and somewhat expected on a Friday afternoon. But he had just started playing and was actually uncomfortable playing with someone at our level. There was space behind us on the tee sheet but the ranger was rude and not having any of it. Just a heads up for guys in the same situation. So on to the course, the layout is okay for this kind of municipal course, I got the tee times as hot deal for 36 bucks, but I would pick serveral other courses in the area at full price ! The fairways are not very good, actually pretty bad. Even for this time of year. The tee boxes are just as bad, with grass as long as the rough some places. The only thing that was above expectations were the greens, they were slow, but at least they were consistent and fairly well grown. But for a course like this, pace of play is key. And that was pretty terrible, and we didn’t see a ranger once to try to pick it up. We waited on every tee box and it took us 2 hours 35 minutes for 9 holes on a short and pretty open course ! Two of us walked off after 11 cause it was not worth the wait. Me personally would prefer Sprain lake and Saxon woods in this kinda course category.
