Very Challenging-play the right tee box.
Very nice condition, pace of play was good, everthing went fine.
Nice course, reasonably fast play
I hadn't played this course since it was Triple A golf and tennis. The re-do is nice - the flavor of the course was kept. Enjoyable Sunday morning.
Easy open fairways and pretty fun
This is a pretty easy course that doesn't have very many hazards. Very good for beginners and anyone looking to just go out and have a good round.
Good Course: Way overbooked
I like this course, tried to play it on Saturday morning and it was WAY OVERBOOKED. I know Saturdays are busy for most courses but this was ridiculous. I booked 18, played about 6 and left. Will never do that again!
Best Muny in the St louis area
Played this course many times ,Always a good time. Forest Park is amazing . Three total different nines gives you a chance to work on your game. Parking can be a problem get there early. Nice putting green. The guys in the clubhouse treat you like a friend unlike tapawingo(where I played the week before) where they treat you like a annoyance. Good public course for the money.
Avoid the Highlands in Forest Park
This was THE WORST experience I've had when booking through Golf Now. The reservation was handled with no problem, but the course was OVERBOOKED dramatically. We were nearly ONE HOUR late teeing off. Groups of 2, 3,five and even SIX ahead of us (YES< I SAID A SIXSOME). Ridiculous. . No marshalls. No starters. No staff in sight. The "range" area is the worst in St. Louis, and that says something, not allowed to hit off what little grass there is...and worse, the artificial surface "mat area" is pathetic. Our tee time was scheduled for 6:17 for NINE holes. We did not even finish because of darkness, only finished six holes. WIll never go back. Please take it off the list.
Challenging course for a good deal
Centrally located, a really good deal for a challenging course, super friendly staff, restaurant has variety of food/drinks including beers on tap. Try the dry rub wings and chicken potstickers...so good.
Very nice course. I loved the scenery and the play.
The greens and the fairways were very well kept. The clubhouse is very nice with great food. The location was great for everyone in my foursome.
Another 3 hour front nine
Front nine on redbud 3 hrs plus on a Sunday am no marshals monitoring pace of play played back nine in under 2 hours on Hawthorne no one in front of our us (2) ? Tees in awful shape greens ok rough already dead with all the rain we have had? Been 2 years since last played here ill wait two more!
Beautiful course. Staff needs to be more visible to help with pace of the game
We played on a Sunday. The course is beautiful - 3 different 9 hole courses. Recommend Redbud, Dogwood, & Hauthorn ( in that order). Course appeared to no short staffed. Took some time to pay, there was no starter. A lot of twosomes not consolidated into foursomes. And I did not see any staffing toting the pace of play. Also looks like they over book tee times. Overall still a fun course.
I love to play this course
Overall course is fun to play, with a wide variety of scenic, well laid-out holes that frame some of St Louis' great landmarks. A good number of bunkers protecting greens and landing zones. Greens were smooth and soft, but pocked due to many players not fixing their ball marls. A short, 120 yd par 3 on the Dogwood course needs maintainance as you can't see the green from the tee box due to overgrowth directly between the tee and green.
great course
Great course but slow play and bone dry water jugs at 630 am made it an ok experience for this walking golfer.
Not fun
I played Rosebud and Dogwood. You have to play these couses many times to get the feel for them. Too many blind shots at the green (even fairways on some!). Too many holes you have a choice of 160-180 yards to see the green or 80-120 yards to be in a valley. Feel like I should not have brought my driver!
On one par three we culdn't even see the green, because of the tall 'natural vegatation' between the tee and green! For the price it is not worth it..
Great course
These are 3, 9 hole courses. Hawthorne is the easy flat first nine. It's a great course for beginners. Hard to lose a ball and not a lot of trouble on this course. Redbud is a bit harder and more hills and trouble. Dogwood is much harder and more fun too. The only problem with these courses is they don't have a starter and singles go out then a 4 some then a single. Some are driving carts and some are walking. The course is slow. There is no Marshall on the course. We were behind six people with 3 carts and only 4 sets of clubs. Someone needs to Marshall this course and hook the singles up and regulate how many people play together. If you have the time it's worth playing.
9 hole course
Wind was present during play. Has elevated tees/greens. Several holes requiring a carry over vegetation in a ditch made up for no bunkers present. If you can hit tee shot straight it is an easy course, but who hits it perfect every time?
Nice course
Nice course for what it is- an above average maintained public course. Not very difficult and therefore good for the intermediate golfer.
Great location
Great location and friendly staff. Th3 course is very good
Terrible experience
I have not played Forest Park for about five years and now I remember why. From the beginning we had a bad experience. The pro shop charged more than what we signed up for on golfnow.com claiming it was tax. Second, our tee time was pushed back 10 minutes from what golfnow assigned us. After arriving to the first tee, we noticed we were third in line to start and eventually started 25 minutes after our new starting time, or almost 40 minutes late. Finally, it took three hours for the front nine that we quit. The only positive experience was that they gave us a rain check for the back nine. However, I don't know if I actually want to torture myself again to finish the round.
Forest Park Hawthorne / Dogwood
Course in good condition for the amount of play it gets. Course could use more yardage markers. The only visible markers are the 150 yard posts in the middle of the fairway.
Nice course
Played Red Bud and Hawthorne. Redbud is a great layout with interesting and challenging holes. Hawthorne much more wide open and flat. finished in 3.5 hrs despite cart path only on 1st 3 holes of Redbud. Conditions were mostly good with a few greens a bit marked up. Looked like the hole locations had not been changed enough. Also bunkers were the worst I've seen just about anywhere. Very little sand. Mostly hard caked dirt that had not been raked in who knows how long. Had to wait too long at turn to get a beverage as no one at all at the bar. Despite the less than warm service and the terrible bunkers, the course is nice and fun to play and the park provides a great atmosphere close to the urban center with plenty of joggers and cyclists nearby sharing the outdoors.
