Maui beaches! Photo submitted by u000005546095 on 02/17/2013
Beautiful great views long and challenging
We had to keep carts on the paths due to heavy rain on Dec 23 and 24 so played even longer and slower...but we had fun just the same
Great Greens!!!!!
Best greens west of Wailea. Like putting on carpet!
Kaanapali kai twighlight
OK because I played twighlight, got a good rate and got 18 holes in. Obviously fantastic at some time in the past but it seems to be in poor shape due to neglect. I would have been disappointed if i paid full rare. The people at the course are super friendly and helpful.
Nice course!
Course difficulty is moderate. Course is well maintained. Water comes into play occasionally. Course is reasonably wide most of the time. The rough can be difficult to escape. Greens are a bit challenging to read as the grain contributes significantly to the line.
Pace of play is fine.
Great Time
This course in my eyes is awesome. It was in outstanding shape and the weather on this day was just awesome. I like the views of the ocean better from these elevations than the lower course, which was very busy. Would I play it again, you BET!
Kaanapali Royal
We played Ka'anapali Royal and were not very impressed. Driving range was mediocre at best, hitting off mats, range balls must have been years old. Staff was nice and helpful. Course is routed through subdivision, so scenery compromised. We played Wailea Gold today and it was worth every penny. Highly recommend!
A good experience...
I played the Royal Kaanapali Course. I came on as a single and was partnered with 2 guys from Kansas City who were very nice. Overall the course was fun to play, it wasn't so hard that it wasn't fun. The staff was polite and helpful. The course was in decent shape, but I don't think it's necessarily worth the greens fees they charge. Of course everything is more expensive in Hawaii. The set of Nike rental clubs was good also. I just played the Plantation Course in Kapalua for roughly the same price. I booked a twilight tee time (1:20pm). I got there early and went out an hour early. They rent you Titleist AP1s/913 D2 Driver/Scotty Cameron putter. The greens are sick though and it's a challenging course. The Staff there was above and beyond friendly. So in my opinion the Royal Kaanapali is a good, fun course, but if you can only play one course in Maui, play the Plantation Course
Fast play
We were prepared to play a 4 to 5 hour round like
we have encountered at many resort courses
and were surprised at how fast the speed of play
was. We were able to finish a round in just under
4 hours.
The staff in all of their departments were friendly
and efficient, We would highly recommend this
course to our friends and visitors alike.
Tee times
Tee times booked too close together. Constant waiting at every hole. Six minutes apart is too close.
Took approx 4hrs 45 minutes to play.
Fast smooth greens and awesome views
We were on a short vacation to Maui and I had the chance to play here twice. The course is fair and has large undulating greens which are the biggest challenge. The signature 5th hole is long and plays into the wind and towards the ocean (and passing tourists who are only a few yards away). Water only comes into play on the 1st and last two holes. Finishing hole is a tough one with water protecting the green on the front and right side. The staff was very nice and since I played early, the round was at a fast pace. I would recommend playing early as the winds pick up in the pm.
Not worth the money
Was really looking forward to playing this course again until I was heading for the first tee to find out that there was all foursomes ahead of me, being a single I would like to be told that before i paid.. No bigge I can hit two balls that's fine. Then I was told the greens had been recently aerated again not terrible have played greens like that before but they could have put a notice on when booking tee time not finding out on way to tee box after paying full price. I have never seen tee boxes in such a condition were really rough and uneven! Was my third and final round of my trip and left me disappointed..
Do not play. Waste of time and money
Was only single behind all foursomes. Wasn't told until after I paid. Didn't mind that as such. The quality of the tee boxes were like a corn field. Very very rough and uneven. Also greens has just been aerated was told that heading to the first tee. Again I don't mind playing on aerated greens but I'd like to be told before I pay full price for something..I don't often write reviews but felt I had to in this case! After playing in Kapalua and king kamehameha for the same price the quality difference is night and day..
Hawaii Golf experience
This course is beautiful. The ocean is in the background in most of all of the back 9. The winds are so strong!! They are really the most challenging thing about the course! People were friendly, carts were nice with the GPS. Rented clubs there on site and that was easy. Overall great experience.
Great Course
Good price for a nice resort course. Would recommend playing while in Maui.
Classic Hawaiian Golf
We enjoyed the course the first day playing and came back for a second round. Warning, no matter how it looks to the eye almost every green breaks toward the ocean! The greens had been aerated within the last month but still rolled true and with good pace. Fairways and bunkers were well maintained and there are very nice elevation changes, especially on the par 3 holes. The course is forgiving, as a resort course should be, but the challenging greens make up for a good test of your short game. Although I would have loved to play the Kaanapali Royal course, it was closed for maintenance during our stay, the play was a pleasure and I will surely play again on our next trip.
First time for golfing in Maui
We had a good day just being able to golf on Maui but our experience was tempered because the greens had recently been punched. The fairways were interesting with beautiful scenery.
I would golf here again but would enquire as to annual maintenance before I booked.
A frustration by all in our party was the hard pack sand in the bunkers, couldn't shoot at all like regular play.
Note to first timers playing in the extreme heat/humidity, hydrate more than you would any other time.
Easy and challenging
Mixture of both fairly simple and somewhat challenging holes. The bunkers had a lot to be desired - hardly any sand.
The course has great greens
First time golfing this course. The greens were so different (very nice). My son had a great eagle shot on the sixth hole... Under the branches, over the bunker, down the slope and in the hole! Great greens, great views, great game, beautiful weather and wonderful staff. Booked through GolfNow. Thank you!!!
Excellent value for the GolfNow price
Great course for the golf now price . Great staff . Adequate driving range. Nice pro shop .
Tricky Greens
Really easy course tee to green but the greens are difficult if you are not familiar with the course.
