Ka'anapali Kai
About
The Ka'anapali Resort on Maui is home to two championship golf courses, set on 1,200 acres of land home to ancient Hawaiian royalty. The Ka'anapali Kai course is an Arthur Jack Snyder design from 1976 that received an extensive renovation in 2005. The golf course is shorter and has a lower slope/rating compared to its sister Royal Ka'anapali course, but also plays narrower in most spots. Many holes are tucked into the West Maui Mountains The golf course is women-friendly with a forward set of "Hibiscus" tees at 4,522 yards, and also less expensive to resort guests and visitors compared to Royal Ka'anapali, which has played host to numerous professional events.

Kaanapali Kai Kicks!
Very nice facility accessing two courses. (aka I is the lower price course.) very nice staff. A lot of people ready and willing to help you. Impressive “gift package” with the club rental. (I lost a lot more than two balls, though!). Magnificent layout with challenging up and down hills. Par threes were a challenging distance (150+). Fantastic views from the higher elevation holes. Tee boxes were in very nice shape. Fairways were very good and rough was a reasonable height. Greens were a little iffy with a lot of sand and competing grasses coming in. Very few ball marks. Sand traps were nicely groomed with plenty of sand. I had a great time!
Good course and close by.
I wish they had a 10 pass card. Their regular rates are too high. Thank you golf now for hot deals.
You can't take your cart to the driving range area, you have to walk with your clubs. Stupid rule.
Ocean view golf at its finest
I didnt research much on this course as i thought is was the ugly kid sister of the royal. Boy was I wrong. Awesome views and interesting hole layouts. greens are challenginf and fun to play.
Greens and traps need work
Fun round in Maui. Staff are very friendly. The greens are not in great shape as it seems they punch new holes often and they are not smooth. Sand traps need alot more sand and tilling. Maybe 1/4 inch of sand before you hit hard spots.
Ocean breeze, beautiful views
We love thee Kai course - it is much less expensive Royal, and it has great mountain vistas, fun elevated tees, wide enough fairways to not worry about getting in too much trouble., but plenty of challenges.
Golf now often has hot deals where you can get better pricing also.
There is a nice putting practice area where you wait for your turn to go out. The range is fine as well and is nearby. You must buy your balls in the shop ahead.
Be sure to get some drinks & snacks from the vending machines ahead of your round, since there is only one refreshment cart and it makes a 36 hole round covering both the Royal and Kai courses so you'll only see it once.
Have fun
Staff was absolute outstanding. 10/10.
Staff was great, super nice, helpful and friendly. Course itself is a 4/5. All good. No big deal. Had fun.
Good course
Greens are very challenging. Course in good shape. Great views from most holes.
Beautiful course in great condition!
Greens were perfect and was just challenging enough but not too tough! Overall great day!
Kaanapali Kai
I’ve played here many times over the last 15 yrs. Beautiful layout, perfect greens. Fairways ever so slightly “tan” this time. Great value however!
Kaanapali Kai
practice putting green was good, but greens on the course were not so. On course greens were not mowed tight, and, as a result , were VERY slow, unlike most good courses in continental U. S.
Greens horrendous
Never played a golf course with greens so poor, if there was a stem meter of zero I would grant it a zero. I am not sure what they put in those greens but no matter how hard you hit the ball. It was always short.
There was never a time you could to put a green very often unless you chipped within 3 feet.
Greens are horrific
First time I’ve ever been to Maui and the first time I’ve ever played this course. I will say the pace of play was outstanding, we teed off around 2 o’clock, and we played a pretty quick round of golf. Drove the ball well and lots of good second shots, but the greens are the absolute worst I’ve ever seen in my life. I consider myself an outstanding putter and short game and every single green just about I had to three putt because the ball doesn’t move. There was absolutely no way of figuring out these greens as they are in terrible condition and really ruins your score.
Review
Sun was out all during the round . Although the wind was blowing, it was not extremely windy as in the past.
